The night was a perfect one, the air so crisp and clean, so refreshing it tasted as sweet as water would to a man parched with thirst in the desert.
An general invitation had been sent to the students at the Academy. One of their own was having a birthday party. It was sent only to them in a very simple manner, only naming a time and and address within the city. The only instructions upon the invitation stated that the host event was to be suit and tie event. The student hosting had event recieved one, as to hide his/her identity from the student body.
The stone walls on either side that surrounded the gate were of an intricately carved bass-relief of dancing tritons, so well carved, it were as if there scales were shining, despite the fact the wall itself was carved out of a dull gray granite.
The gate itself was an intricately wrought piece of steel, hammered and folded, and chisled to look like a shimmering waves thundering and breaking apart right along the center. It was also made so cunningly that one could not count the number of waves due to the shimmering of the light and the folds of the steel.
The pathway was 'simple' enough, surrounded on either side by lush emerald green grass, very well kept. The pathway itself was of a paved, crushed, and compacted granite, made to be smooth and once piece and yet give off the impression it was many.
Midway between the mansion and the entranceway, the pathway split around a fountain with a phoenix made of a naturally-occuring garnet infused granite. The phoenix itself was made to that the water coming off it seemed like it was the flames itself, though at night it was lit and did seem like it had flowing flames. No doubt enchanted to look that way with brilliant, yet subtle undertones of golds and reds.
The mansion was of Rennaisance style, though not nearly as lavish. The decor spoke of what a relatively well off nobleman would have had in those days.
The main entrance was a grand sweeping ballroom in and of itself. The red velvety carpet hugged the grand sweeping staircase as a pair of lovers would hold one another in a last passionate embrace. The glow entranced the room in a soft glow that bathed the room in a soft warm that diffused everything into a relaxed sigh.
The staircase was built to hug the room in two seperate direction in equal facilities. Its fine craftsmanship was shown in the elaborate carvings of trees, almost so real their leaves almost seeming to come off, though they gave off no hint of magic what so every. The only magic given off, was that of the loving craftsmanship that had been put into them. The railings were of a slightly worn silver color and had been carefully hiding etchings with cunning details of spring and winter inside tiny grooves near their ends.
Near the back of the bottom of this grand room, a small orchestra played some soft slow music to set the tone as some students mingled about and to the sides of this sizeable room, food, chairs, tables had been discreetly set up.

Ziare stood waiting for Jyo. It was their first dance and Ziare was nervous and excited. She had gone shopping and spent a lot of money on her dress trying to look nice.
Her dress was a pale pink with clear beading over the bodice and skirt. Her platinum blonde hair was half pulled up and half down. It was curled. Ribbons wove through her hair falling gracefully in with the ringletts. She was wearing her white high heals that were hidden beneath her pink dress.
She stood in the entry way waiting for her date to arrive.

Jyo walked up behind Ziare very quietly. He wore a long black suit. it was nicly tucked and ironed and he had a white shirt under the buttoned up suite jacket. A deep red tie was also worn and instead of combat boots he wore dress shoes. the suit looked surprisingly good on Jyo in his mind as he had never worn one before.
"Hello my love. Shall we go?" he said softly and he had his left rm offered as soon as Ziare turned around. "You look even more lovely tonight than normal." he said.

Ziare turned around surprised. She smiled and blushed at his complement and kissed his cheek.
"Hello..." she broke off seeing Jyo dressed up nicely. "Oh my..."
"Jyo you look so wonderful." she told him.
Jyo looked so wonderful. He always looked handsome but he cleaned up so nicely.
"Shall we?"

He held out his arm for her to take. once she did the two of them headed to where the festivities so to say would be taking place at. "I must have the greatest luck to have you be the one at my side here." He said.
They decided to wait together and see if anyone else would be showing up before they did anything.

Joseph waited calmly, hands clasped in the small of his back, just outside the main gate. Though he was not clad in a tuxedo as most of the passing students seemed to be in, he had adorned the dress uniform of the gunmage school. The uniform was a firmly pressed black with lavender finishings. On his left breast the marks of his successes in the school were displayed proudly. Since the Second World War, the gunmage school had taken up a rather militaristic dressing regimen, in order to better fit in with their new D-13 benefactors.
In his hair was a gell he'd aquired from a Harlequin who specialized in magical cosmetics. The hairgell would keep his hair naturally soft, but give it shape as well as a subtly shining appearence. For the night Joseph had also taken the time to polish his glasses and revolver. The weapon sat on his waist in a ceremonial holster of dark brown leather fashioned from the hide of a griphon. Though some may object to the sight of the revolver, Midnight was a gunmage afterall and being disrobed was the only time he allowed his bonded weapon to be away from him. Glancing down at it the freshly finished metal of it's surface twinkled in the light as though the revolver had just come from the smith.
Joseph let out a sight and looked down the street in each direction. He would have much prefered to have walked here with his date, but with her usual mysterious manner had declined. She had wanted to meet him at the gate then enter together. The gunmage checked the ornate watch he wore aorund his wrist. "I wish she'd hurry. This is liable to start before she arrives." he muttered his hands clasping behind him once more. Where was she?

Talbot sighed softly as Mikon fluttered and flared around her chittering constant advice on how to act and what to do, while Zula squeek the occaisonal comment on her appearence. At least Zula was kind enough to say something between the two. Talbot waved her hand at Mikon and said sharply, "You're making me late, Mikon. Now take Zula and scoot!"
Mikon huffed, landing on Talbot's exposed shoulder he pressed his nose against her powdered cheek, wraped his tail around Zula and flew away with Zula screeching. Talbot waved, calling, "Just go back to the room! I left you two a treat!"
She had taken extra time to assemble this outfit- she had insisted on meeting her date there- for in truth she had just finished sewing the dress the night before and had slept until two hours before the time of the event. If only they knew how hard it was to putt a corsett nice and tight. She dress ruslted softy the mermaid bustle skirt glimmering in the light as she moved, the back lacing of her corsett was simply black while the corsett itself was a pale lavendar, her shoulders were completely exposed as always but the front of her corsett was a little more lower cut than her normal clothing- this was after all about formal presence not about fighting. In a shorter version, if not for a few all nighters this dress would not have been completed in time.
Checking the necklace around her throat- the druid rune for wind, Talbot then tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, she had completely crimped her hair, rather than simply letting it hang, and had braided a few locks to go from behind her left ear to her right and behinf her right ear to the left. At first glance one could not see the makeup she wore but it was there. The light powder had been charmed to give only the slightest of glimmer in light, reguardless it kept the shine away and was waterproof, she wore a feint trace of lavender eye shadow, just enough to show it was there- as least when she blinked. Talbot personally hated all this work but formal was formal!
Finally coming close to the front gate, she spotted Midnight and went to him, she smiled, revealing the slight coloration of nude lipstick, "Am I too late?"

Joseph turned when he heard a female voice address him. For a moment he simply stared at the girl before it suddenly hit him. The gunmage was visably taken aback, eyes wide with surprise. "God's on high," he gasped "...yo-you're beautiful!" Without even thinking Midnight reached out and took her hands in his as he drank in her utter loveliness. He had thought Talbot beautiful before, but this...this was practically a sensory overload. She was so stunning he hadn't even recognized her at first. His lips suddenly arced into a smile. This goddess was his date. Date? Joseph shook himself out of his daze and smiled. "You're right on time. You look ravishing, Talbot."

Talbot smiled and bobbed her head, the crimped blonde hair bouncing slightly, she stepped back, managing to gain her hands back with little to no fuss and looked him over. Her Gray eyes took in his appearence, no detail she missed, pulling a strand of her blonde hair off his uniform she nodded, "You don't look so bad yourself."
She looked around, "So are we going to stay here so you can gawk in the cold or go inside so you can gawk in the w- hey you didn't just shine up your glasses! You gave your partner a good polish too!"
She nudged his side playfully and winked, "Went all out for this huh?"

Ziare stood next to Jyo outside the building to see if anyone else was going to join them for the dance. She saw Joseph arrive but decided not to go over she wanted to see who was his date. Sure enough a few minutes later Talbot walked out all decked in beautiful formal array.
Ziare squeezed Jyo's arm and pointed to them. They looked so cute together. Ziare lifted her hand and waived slightly.
"Well, at least there will be good friends here." she said smiling up at Jyo.
"Lets go in. I hope you're ready to dance." she smiled and gave him a friendly wink.
Her long curled hair blowing slightly in the breeze.

Joseph grinned his attention caught in the sparkling of her eyes. He shrugged and patted his weapon, "Well it desrves to look just as spiffy as I do. I wouldn't want it to go to such an occasion under dressed." His gaze pulled away from her visage for a moment, the gunmage caught a glimps of Ziare with Jyo, waving to them. "Heh, looks like your sister has spotted us. Shall we go join her my dear?" he asked stepping close and offering his arm.

Talbot grinned and waved to Ziare and Jyo, they both looked wonderful together! Talbot was glad her little sister had found a descent fighter to have a relationship. She took the offered arm, though the custom was unfamliar to her- what a shock she had never been to something like this before, "Sounds like a plan," but not being one to be led about, Talbot pulled Joseph foreward- though not very quickly. No need to rush- they're be here for a while after all.

Joseph was taken a little by surprise when Talbot pulled at his arm, but quickly smiled and went with the flow. Not only was she so intoxicatingly beautiful...she was independent too. As they walked together he found himself glad he was able to stand in such close proximity to her. Sure, the girl had always been friendly to him, but she also always had kept herself distant. That was probably attributed to her painful past. As they just entered the mansion, stepping onto the velvet-like carpet, he suddenly realized that her being her with him like this, was a large step towards lasting affection. This fact made him beam in appreciation. He was never so sure of making his trip for the Monastery tommorrow as he was right now. "Look, there's Ziare and Jyo again." he said nodding off to the side of the great hall. The festivities wouldn't be starting for a little while which gave them some time to mingle.

Jyo waved back at Joseph and Talbot. But Ziare insisted they dance which Jyo had no argument to. "Well if you remember everything from the campout we could easily be the spotlight of the dance." he said leading her by one hand in a very courtly fashion.
He put a hand on her waist and grasped he other raising it up to the side. He waited for her to get ready. "Alright my lady Let us dance." he said and lead them in the grafeful waltz varation he had taught her on the campout.

Ziare smiled and taking her place in Jyo's arms began moving through the steps of the dance he had taught her on their last vacation.
She kept her crystal blue eyes on his own emerald green locking them in her gaze. She couldn't look away and it felt as though they were the only ones in the room. The music played and Jyo and Ziare dance her dress sparkling in the lights that they moved through on the dance floor.
"It is so wonderful to be here with you Jyo. Dancing in your arms. It feels almost like a dream." she told him in a whisper as they continued their steps.
Ziare spun out and then came back, her hair and ribbons flying with her, then her hand found Jyo's easily once again as they continued the steps. She was thankful he had taken the time to teach her to dance.
