Celeste heard the words and then soon after there was a gentle touch on her cheek. She closed her eyes not wanting to have him get hurt because of her but longing at the same time for any gentle touches these days. She nuzzled into his hand for a moment before she put her sunglasses in her hair to keep her hair away from her face. Taking a deep breath she looked up showing him the damage.
"I'm not afraid you'll laugh. I'm afraid you'll get hurt because of me or that you'll run away because of what it looks like." she said softly as her eyes shimmered with tears that she wouldn't let fall.
She took his hand from her face and squeazed it gently before setting them both down on the table together. She swallowed and continued to look in his eyes.
"You never answered, what kinds of food you like." she said changing the subject a bit. She didn't mind if he asked it had been her fault anyway. It was always her fault. She just.. wasn't good enough.

Using the hand that she wasn't holding, he pointed at the part of his left face that had been mechanically replaced, then ran his finger down the border where his pallid flesh met the jet-black metal. "Did you think that I would judge you on the base of a few bruises, when I have this?" He asked, knowing the answer. "Do you think, that I would care even if I didn't?" The second rethoricall question sounded. His voice was low and calm, yet also a little sad, for reasons he didn't know. "And as for being hurt" He began, not knowing why she thought he would get hurt and not caring. "Life is pain, we just gotta grab the slack that fate cuts us." He hoped it got through to her, he didn't want her to feel sad or embaressed on his account, especially not since he felt nothing negative for her, he had simlpy yet to see something he didn't like.He smiled at her "A few bruises are unimportant, especially when I look like frigging borg outta star trek. And even if I didn't I still wouldn't care"
He saw her nuzzle his hand and wished he had put the extra time and effort into his current project, a minor energy field that funtioned like a replacement for the sense of feeling. It would be ready by next week, but he would have given anything to have felt her caress his hand. But he still felt the gentle caress through his heart, a joy he hadn't felt in far too long. She lay his hand on the table along with her own looking into his eyes, not seeking to avoid the mechanical one per default as most did. "As I said" He began leaning forwards a little bit. "I eat anything, although I do like seafood, if you were looking for a favorite" Which he knew that she had. "And I would love to cook with you."
Almost as per que, Mech appeared holding a tray in one of his several grabbing tools. He set it down without a word and Tech handed him a dollar-note. Then he hovered off in direction of the counter. He looked into her eyes, trying to figure out what she was thinking before he picked up his cup to toast her. "True beauty, like true power, comes from within" He said, knowing it was more cryptic than romantic, but that was who he was. "And" He added quickly "To good first impressions" He hoped to find a good friend in her, if nothing else, but he was happy that he had sat down on that bench when he had. He smiled as he lifted the cuo, meaning every word

Celeste looked at him. He was doing to her what she had done to him mere moments ago. Trying to let her know that despite appearances it didn't matter because they were both not normal at the moment. She leaned across and touched the mechanical side of his face before she moved to the on that had skin and carressed his soft cheek. She wasn't afraid of looking into both eyes nor was she afraid to touch either side at all.
Letting her hand fall Mech came back to the table with thier tray and she smiled. It smelled so good. Tech told her that his favorite food was seafood something she hadn't really played with yet but was more than willing to try.
"Then you'll just have to come over one day and we can cook together. I cook lots of things but haven't tried seafood before." she admitted as she picked up her cup. She cheered him back before she took a sip and her hand moved away from his so that she could tear her muffin into bits.
She leaned forward a little bit and lay a piece of her muffin on his side of the tray with a smile. She was getting a few odd looks from the people around the cafe who probably thought that Tech here had given her the black eye.
"But.. I should warn you because.. he may find out." she said softly looking down slightly her eyes staring at her cup. "I.. didn't get into a fight or anything to get this bruise or the ones you cant see. I.. burnt dinner one day.. and.. he got mad and.. "
She let it trail off. He would know what had happened after she had burnt dinner the evidence was all over her face. It was even better now than before when her brother and exboyfriend had found her in her room.
"I just.. wanted you to know.. so maybe we should cook.. in your room." she whispered as she wiped a tear from her face and looked away out the window.

Tech had lived through a moment of utter ecstasy when she had touched either of his cheeks, the artificial and the biological one. He didn't know about most other people, but here was one who didn't care about appearance, a rare and admirable thing. Never since the accident and his escape from the Sig had someone caressed him and meant it, not the way she did. She was a unique being, one of incredible both one the outside and the inside, a thing that was far too rare by Tech's standards.
He had smiled when she joined in the toast, and had nodded eagerly while still drinking from his cup, when she had said that he should drop by so they could cook sometime. But that was also where the happiness ended. He froze when she said it, the truth dawning faster than he would have liked. "No" He whispered in denial "No" again as he reached for her cheek and began running his hand up and down the tender skin. "Nonononononono" He couldn't bring himself to believe that someone could be in such beautiful company and hurt her so bad over something as unimportant as a replaceable meal. "You can't live with him" Tech was beyond sense, his computer's logic overridden by his human emotions. "Please, there's plenty of room where I live, we could both stay here." He couldn't stand the thought of her being in the presence of someone who hurt on account of something so irrelevant as a negligible meal.
He gently rubbed the tear of her face with his finger, what she had just told him unable to fit in with his perception of reality. "Please, come live with us." He said, referring to himself and Mech, "I can't stand the thought of somebody hurting you" A tear ran down his own cheek, like the first drop of rain from a cloud. And just like the first drop of rain, more followed, many more

She heard his denial and she closed her eyes as his hand came to her face and brushed the tears away. She looked over at him as he practically begged her to come stay with him. She smiled as she took his hand off her face and kissed the back of it gently. She smiled softly again as she looked up into his eyes and reached across taking his own tear back with her.
"It's okay. I don't anymore. Someone is looking after me right now. I still want to cook with you though. Can I come over to your place and cook?" she asked softly as she let his hand rest on her unbruised cheek and held it there for a moment.
She smiled softly. She was going to make it somehow but she hurt deeply inside so often.
"I'll try not to burn it. I am a good cook I promise, it was just that one time, I won't do it again. You can trust me I.." her eyes welled with tears. And there it was all the insecurities that had come about of a beating for that. All the things that made her question everything she did these days.
"Give me.. a chance.. please." she whispered. She looked into his eyes and pleaded with him trying to contain the tears that threatened to fall.

Me ch watched it all from afar. He had received the change, but in stead of going straight back to Tech as he usually did he had set himself down on an unoccupied table as close them as he could get, observing. He did this because he wanted to study, but also because he felt that they didn't want to be interrupted. Tech emotions were so strong that they traversed the empathic bond they shared, and Me ch found himself in a mixture of sorrow and anger, which confused him. It was the first time he felt this sort of thing for another creature than Tech.
"Of course you can come by, of course I'll give you a chance" the only thing keeping Tech from going into an emotional override was his hand on her cheek, his heart feeling where his brain couldn't. He wanted to hug her, to lend her all the comfort that he could in his cold embrace. "It doesn't matter if it burns, it's only food" It was an odd thing to say, but Tech wasn't thinking straight. His status had gone from depressed to panicking with in half an hour, and that was not something his system was used to. Seeing her eyes grow watery, he stood up and went to sit by her side, holding her in his arms. "There, there" he whispered in her ears in a soothing fashion, letting head rest on his shoulder as his own tears flowed from his eye to her shoulder

Suddenly she felt him put his arms around her and she closed her eyes laying her head on his shoulder. She didn't let her tears fall at first but when she felt the first of his own soak into her sweater her own came finally. She cried softly as she had so many times lately. Her self conscience had been wrecked with the beating and it was taking a lot to get it back on track.
"Im' so sorry. Look at me I'm ruining our breakfast aren't I?" she asked softly as she pulled back.
She didn't mind the metal at all. She picked up a napkin and gently dabbed his cheek taking the tear away. She smiled and ran her hand softly through his short brown hair. She looked right into his eyes before she leaned in and kissed the cheek where his tear had been. His real cheek.
"Hey now, don't get all sad over me. I'm okay. Look I can still do everything I could before. Tell you what, if you give me a smile, I'll show you my wings later before we part." she said with a soft smile turning from her own pain and trying to console the boy that was becoming inadvertantly involved.
"What do you say?" she asked softly.

"No, no you're not ruining anything" He responded slowly. "It's ok, just let it all out." He hadn't felt this sort of thing in years, if ever. He had never really gotten too involved with one person at a time, enjoying the sorrowless life of the party lover. He wasn't like that anymore, he had learned his lesson, only all too well. She dabbed away his tear and ran her hand through the little bit of hair he had left, before she softly kissed his cheek, his real cheek. Nobody had done that with any emotion other than greed for the past years, but she did it with care, true care. It was just.... unexpected. Unexpected and pleasant.
Tears? Mech had never seen any use for them, but he had been warned that these mortals where hard to understand. His own kind were easily understood, they just wanted to know everything. He thought of interrupting them to move along, but something held him back, something that ran along the empathic bond. He couldn't interrupt them, not now...
Part of Tech's computer brain was regaining control, although still heavily effected by emotion. A handy thing about the artificial brain was that it aided him in mimicing emotions, a thing that had come in handy in the past. He smiled, part real part fake, and looked int oher eyes, the smile becoming completely real. He knew that she was fleeing the pain, but something that was all you could do. He had done it so many times now, it almost seemed like a second nature. "We also had some shopping to take care off, that's also my therapy" He rose and Mech flew towards him impatiantly, with the change outstretched in his artificial hand. They had a lot to do, and more to buy...
