Sleighing, sorry. Play of words. It got your attention though, didn't it. Or perhaps better known as sledding to some people. Isn't the English language funny when two things mean the same thing, yet are spelt and pronounced different because the British and Americans just can't seem to agree on one topic...
Question: what kind of sleds/sledges/sleighs do you usually use?
Darah found a nice little spot near the edge of Babylos where she could be all alone. This little area was next to the end of the floating island, that was why people never went there for fear of falling down. Darah couldn't be bothered though. This place was ideal for (let's make things easier by using sleigh from now onwards) sleighing. There was a nice gentle slope which went down all the way to the edge. It had been snowing the night before and the ice was still around in the cool morning air.
Darah made her way up to the top of the small hill. The slope was wide enough for about eight or so sleighs to go down at the same time. There were no obstructions, just a wide open slope. The only problem was that there was nothing to stop the sleighs from falling over the edge if the people on it don't find a way to stop it. Nothing to prevent a few kilometre drop to your death... Upside though is that you'll have plenty of time to write your will before you go splat.
Next to Darah was a huge lizard-like creature. A basilisk. Gekko. Her kid. Darah herself was dressed in a brown trenchcoat too long for her that it ended up crumpled at her feet. Atop her head was a brown hat which also was too big and kept covering her eyes. Darah had to constantly push the front of the hat up.
Gekko bent all six knees for Darah to climb aboard him. Darah slowly climbed up on the lizard and sat herself properly on the lizard's back. Wrapping her arms around the thick neck of the basilisk, she laughed, "Let's go, Gekko!"
Gekko pushed off with his hind legs and then quickly pulled them up together with his fore legs. Sliding on his belly, Gekko started ferrying his mother on his back down the slope. They slowly picked up speed and Darah now had to hold her hat down instead of pushing it up. Darah cackled as she felt the icy wind on her face and Gekko joined in with a low growl.

Tristan was coming back from earth and his now scarce time as a hunter. He hated those portal spells and always came in by way of flight. A tiny flash of light could be seen about a hundred yards off from the outer edges of Babylos where the snow and ice built up. Out of no where a massive black beast appeared, its great head reared as its massive wings supported itsself in a hover whilst it gained its barings.
The beast was a great black dragon, only a year and a half old and yet already so big. What did that tell you he was gonna look like by the time his rider died a few hundred years later? That rider was the hunter Tristan, seemingly human yet that was an utter deception, though that little fact wasn't well known...yet. Tristan shook himself of the profound chill of the teleportation and found the icey environment around him warm compared to what he'd just come from. His black hair blew in the great winds of being high above the earth as the black dragon finished gaining his location and flapped his wings with a forward propulsion.
As the pair flew forward, Igneus, the name of the magnificent winged being, noticed something strange. Yo...Look down there. He projected into his partners mind via telepathic link. Tristan looked where the dragon indicated and saw an unusual sight, a huge greenish-black lizard with what looked like a human on its back. [What the hell is that thing?] The hunter asked his partner who could, by nature, tell what an animal or even a person was.
I think its a basilisk...We've never come across one so I can't be sure. Igneus responded, much to Tristan's surprise. Igneus responded to that with a small growl that more or less meant 'dunno'. [Head over to them.] Tristan commanded mentally and Igneus shifted his wings to turn toward the speeding pair. Igneus did his best to keep up with the sliding pair, though it was difficult with the speed that sliding streamline on ice provided. Tristan would wait until they stopped to land and speak with them.

Halfway sliding down the long slope, Gekko gave a low whine. He seemed distressed over something. Darah was feeling a little queasy herself, the way she always did whenever she felt that something was amiss. Usually, the queasiness meant that she was being watched.
"Gekko, stop..." Darah whispered into her kid's ear and Gekko immediately responded by slamming all six feet into the snow, the claws holding him in place and killing his momentum, effectively bringing mother and child into a stop.
Darah climbed atop Gekko's head, mindful of the horns, and scanned the surroundings. She didn't seem to see anyone on the ground and looked up. In the air, coming towards them from behind was a black dragon with a rider atop it. The dragon was only a young one, thank god. A full grown dragon could wrestle a T-rex. The rider may probably have found the dragon as an egg and thus, was able to tame it. Darah knew that had she not found Gekko as an egg and had Gekko not imprinted upon her as his mother, their relationship would not be so close even if she managed to tame him.
A poacher? Darah asked herself and revealed her platinum claws from the sleeves of her trenchcoat. The dragon and its rider probably meant no harm, but Darah was not going to take any chances and was giving them a warning not to try anything funny.

Igneus slowed and began to circle as the supposed basilisk halted. The dragon made decent sized circles on its way down, now fully over babylos. After a couple of minutes Tristan stood up on his partners back and dove. He soared head first for about five seconds before using air element to flip himself around and land heavily in the snow.
Being inhuman as he was, combined with his various elements being able to slow his decent or plain old cushion it, he was unharmed. Igneus, still relatively high above, took his time landing as it wasn't like he could speak with the pair any way. His sword visible on his back, gauntlets visible as well, Tristan walked forward until he was within decent earshot of the strange person and lizard. It was a little bit past a quarter of Igneus' size, so there shouldn't be too much threat there if the pair turned out to be hostile.
"Yo." Tristan called out in his usual deep voice. "Haven't seen you around before, what are you doing all the way out on the edge of the island?" He asked, making sure to keep a decent enough distance from the animal that it couldn't lash out and catch the hunter before he could pull out his Shireiutz and defend.

The rider performed some somersault and landed on his feet in the snow. Circus tricks, Darah thought. Can the monkey pull a bunny out of his hat as well?
Darah's eyes never left the man as he came forward. Question: If someone comes in peace, would they bring their weapons along with them? At that moment, Darah could see the big sword behind the man's back. He had to be a poacher. He was after Gekko. Or maybe he was one of those collectors of rare creatures. As it was, Gekko the basilisk was a rare creature and Darah being the last of her clan was a rare creature as well.
Darah started to analyze the man. He was large, at least a good head taller than her. However, she could deal with him easily. What bothered her was the dragon. Darah could protect herself and Gekko from the dragon's flames but what worried her was its fangs and claws. Gekko's scales were probably tough enough to prevent excessive damage but Darah's scales would not be strong enough.
Darah's heart started pumping fast and adrenaline started filling her blood.
"State your business." Darah ignored the man's chit-chat. He couldn't see more than just her lips and nose with her being covered by her hat and trenchcoat. He wouldn't know what she was.

Tristan wasn't exactly surprised by the hostility. The hunter didn't exactly look friendly. Igneus circled around and would land soon behind his partner. "I have none. I'm just coming back to the island. Personally I can't stand those portals and come in with him." He nodded his head upward, indicating Igneus. Tristan really didn't have any business, he wasn't a poacher, just a hired gun. Let alone the fact that he never killed on babylos, short of bugs of course...nasty little basterds.
Igneus finished his decent and plopped himself down behind Tristan, not bothering to go into his smaller form as Tristan would most likely simply take off on him after a few minutes and head back to the academy. "You go to the Academy?" He asked, his tone softening slightly into curiosity. The hunter got the feeling that the two he was infront of weren't the friendly type and simply stood there with Igneus resting behind him.

Darah took in all of the man's words. So, he has no business eh? If that is true, then he's probably not a poacher... Provided he's telling the truth.
The dragon landed behind the man. Darah started analyzing the dragon as she had did with the man. It was big. Huge. Advantages: it could fly. Weapons: Fire breath, provided it was one of those fire types, claws, fangs. Analysis complete.
A question from the man. He asked if she went to the Academy. She nodded yes and climbed back down onto Gekko's back. So far, the man wasn't doing anything suspicious. Darah's heartrate decreased back to its normal level and so did her adrenaline levels.
"To the top again, Gekko." She whispered softly into the ear of the basilisk and the kid started making its way up the slope once more. Upon passing the man on the way up, Gekko stopped and Darah asked him, "Hey, do you sleigh?"

Tension dropped and it became rather obvious that she'd suspected something of Tristan. [What did she expect on Babylos?] He thought, half to himself, half to Igneus. Hell if I know.... The girl, or so it seemed by her voice, got back on the lizard and Tristan jumped up and back, controlling his decent with a little bit of wind element to put himself square on Igneus' back.
He was caught off guard by the question and thought about what she meant. Thinking she meant 'slay' instead of 'sleigh', he responded: "I'm a hunter if thats what you mean." He'd had a more serious childhood than most despite the relative level of normacy until he was around twenty, not to mention that he'd had an extremely abnormal life after twenty. With that in mind it wasn't surprising that he took the meaning of her word wrong.

Darah's question: "Hey, do you sleigh?" His answer: "I'm a hunter if thats what you mean." Darah's reaction: Huh? ( ) Darah had no idea what brought all that up, but it seems as though she should not be trusting this guy after all. A hunter? Darah knew what hunters were. She may be a small 14 year old, but she knew enough about the world to know that hunters were bad people who killed animals for sport. Sport? You call taking the lives of innocent creatures sport? Hunters were all evil. Darah was sure of it. "A hunter, eh?" Darah mumbled, then calling up to the hunter, she asked, "So, what are your game?" If Mr.Hunter said 'basilisks' or 'rare species', Darah would have no choice but to kill him. For the sake of the planet, why can't people hunt something the world is abundant of? Chickens for example!

Igneus claws his way up the slope, following the basilisk. When she asked his game, Tristan said, "Vampires, Demons, Werewolves. I'm a hired gun for the supernatural so, any thing that causes problems in the world, and it ain't normal, I kill it." He sat down on his partners neck, holding on to one of the spikes with an armored hand.
Normally he wouldn't recommend that as the spikes were fairly sharp, but he did have his gauntlets, so he wasn't worried. "If you thought I was a hunter of sport thats understandable. Most people haven't heard of demon hunters or really thought that they would exist, from the academy or not." He continued. The black dragon continued his way up the slope, only walking up so that conversation could continue. "It's pretty uncommon as most humans can't fight demons or vampires, whether they have magic or not."

Darah listened to the man's explanation quietly. Even as he spoke, her mind was racing through a bunch of questions already. - Hired gun? A mercenary then? Or perhaps a bounty hunter? How long has he been doing that? It's his job right? How old is he? What's his motive? Money? Sex? Drugs? Where did those last two come from?
Darah continued listening as the man explained on how he was a demon hunter. No, demon hunters Darah understood. Her clan had been exterminating demons for centuries now... or at least until the tidal wave wiped them all out save her. But that last part about what he had said... It's pretty uncommon as most humans can't fight demons or vampires...
"So..." Darah spoke as they got to the top of the slope. "You think it's uncommon for humans to fight demons? Tell me then, are you one of the uncommon humans or are you something else?"

Tristan listened to her question and grinned. "Curious little thing aren't you?" He said, mulling over his answer that would soon come. They were approaching the top of the slope and while Igneus was bigger and had a wider stride, the basilisk had six legs instead of four. With more legs, pace was quickened, and you were able to keep up with a larger stride.
"If you must know...I'm something els." He said with a bit of a menacing tone to the answer itsself. At this point, Tristan didn't really care if people knew what he was. He was one of the only ones in existance so the element of surprise would still be his in most situations. Igneus came to a stop at the top of the slope and wondered what to do next, though it was pretty obvious.

It seemed that the man wasn't human. Darah was fine with that. She could get along better with non-humans rather than humans. After all, she herself was not a human. "Well, that makes the two of us..." Darah admitted to the guy. "It's only fair for me to tell you since you told me first."
Darah then whispered to Gekko to get ready to slide down the hill again. Gekko turned around to face the slope while Darah lovingly hugged his neck. "So I'll ask again, Mr. Demon Hunter: Do you sleigh? As in, riding on a sleigh. You've done it before haven't you?"

Igneus turned around with the basilisk, rather bored with the whole idea and would much rather sit infront of a fire playing around with his magic or attacking a random bug that would be scared shitless. "Maybe...Up until I was six I'd had a normal childhood so I might have...Wouldn't remember if I have though." He responded. Since he'd been on Babylos, he'd gotten along with people better. It was probably the stability of going to the same place every day instead of being all over the bloody planet.
"After that I was almost strictly a martial artist and never did any thing a normal kid would." He finished, still loosely gripping the black neck spike. It was true enough, if somewhat depressing. Aside from playing around with his old man like any kid might, Tristan simply stuck to training and never bothered with a social life or playing around much.

Darah took in every single word the demon hunter had said. She could relate to some of it. She herself didn't grow up as most normal kids did. She had to practice spitting poison and had to accompany clan members on occasional demon hunting but at least she got to go to school, play with friends and have a good time once in a while. The demon hunter on the other hand was a kid up until six years of age. After that, it seems that he had to focus entirely on training.
Darah wanted to say something to comfort the demon hunter but figured that he was already used to the way he was. She wanted to sympathize with him and say something like "you poor thing" but figured that the demon hunter wouldn't accept sympathy or pity either. Why were men such idiots bent on being macho and keeping their pride?
"Well, let's go." She said with a smile to the demon hunter but made sure he could only see her smile but not the rest of her face by covering herself with her hat. "Just because you're old now (Darah think everyone above 20 is old) doesn't mean you can't have fun every now and then. You can ride behind me on Gekko. He doesn't mind, right Gekko?" The basilisk snorted defiantly. Darah whispered something into his ear. The basilisk looked defeated.
"Everything's fine so come on. Your dragon is too big to sleigh on anyways."
