OOC: This is a thread to celebrate Earth Day which is celebrated April 22nd of each year. What Earth Day represents is pretty much has a strong link to the world of magic. Also, this is self-RP. Depending on how many people join, post count, post quality, etc, points and items will be rewarded. Happy Earth Day. I'll be popping in and out of the thread to make things "interesting." Also use your imagination and think about how your character would observe and celebrate Earth Day. ^_^
It was Earth Day. Yes, April 22nd was the holiday known as Earth Day. Earth Day was made to increase awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment or what most people would call "Mother Nature." In the world of magic, practicioners of magic should very well be appreciative of what nature offers.
Denton due to his organizational skills was asked to head up the Earth Day celebration taking place within the heart of Babylos, which is the main city on the floating island where Arcane Academy is located. The festivities were designed to bring awareness to the earth and how fragile it really is.
Earth's balance is very delicate. In the world of magic, one should definitely know how delicate the world is. The food and refreshments were "organic" or "natural" the way it's supposed to be. Well, the meat was cooked because it's not always good to eat raw meat. There was even a few people that setup a sushi bar and rolling sushi.
And yes, sushi was very healthy. This was all Denton's planning. The celebration was going to be a party. But also, it was a way for people to talk and get to know each other better.
Most importantly, the theme of this festival was to spread the message of the importance of maintaining the earth and its invaluable resources. Keep in mind most of the resources are nonrenewable. The renewable resources take a long amount of time to replenish.
Trees were renewable but they take decades and centuries to repopulate.
Water wasn't renewable, it was just recycled. Fossil fuels such as oil and natural gases weren't renewable either. Of course it can all be renewed by magic. But most of the people on earthside do not know the existance of magic.

Tristan had heard about the celebration taking place in the city. It seemed the man who'd sent a few students out for a food run, which turned into a mad dash for Coney Island, had organized a little get together. Slight exaggeration? Most definitely. There was probably a miles worth of tables splayed out on the grass. Some of which were piled high with various foods. The rest were for seating, though there were some people layed out on blankets, chowing down or talking.
Vibrant and plump vegetables and fruit. A heavy smell of cooking meat. Granted, Tristan's Crusnik nose was MUCH stronger than any humans...but he literally smelled the meat cooking a mile away. Every thing was naturally grown, or so it seemed. No chemical odors which perforated most produce, no evidence of ambient mana as though it were sprouted out of the ground by a fleet of Geomancers...nothing. Nothing but the food itself. "Impressive spread." Tristan commented, walking over to one of the tables. His black eyes scanned over the food available, though it was a ways down. He'd stopped at the table which was piled high with plates, cups, forks, spoons, knives, all that good utensil shit.
He grabbed a large plate, fork, knife, and cup. Joining the line of people already there, the hunter, heavily armed as usual, lumbered down the line as it slowly progressed. A steak here. A corn on the cob there. A cup full of jack daniels. He got off the line when there was a satisfactory mass of food on it, and walked over to one of the eating tables by a large tree.
Placing down the grub and booze, Tristan took off his Shireiutz, propped it up against the tree, and sat down. Igneus hopped off his partners shoulder, and landing with a bit of a clatter on the table. The Crusnik began pulling off his gauntlets, as it was a pain to eat with them on, as his partner began to gnash on one of the grilled steaks that were on the plate. "A nice day to relax...Good idea Tran."

"It sucks in a way how the humans treat earth such a beautiful place I guess on the Island we have it made" Kelsey said to herself. It made her sad how much those on the earthside didn't know of magic in a way it was a good thing, but in a way It was a bad thing she wanted to teach them but wouldn't.
Kelsey decided to have some steak after getting some she sat down by a man who also seemed to have a pet dragon. (Tristan) Cute She thought to herself. The drinks were great too Kelsey preferred soda to beer millions of people every where the eye could see.
She smiled at the man as she returned to eating, then looking at the dragon she mouthed the word Hi "it's beautiful up here but I feel horrible for those on earthside in a way" she said to no one particular.
She was a little nervious around the one she sat by, but whatever. "It's Earth Day today we celebrate not feel sorry for others, we rejoice not cry, we open our eyes to see true beatuy not close our selfs indoors." you know? She asked the man he's cute

Tristan looked up from his food. A rather blank expression on his face. Igneus looked up as well, a bit of meat still in his maw. A younger woman was sitting next to him. She was attractive, but obviously not human. Her appearance was indicitive of a vampire...though it was off. Igneus dipped his head a bit in turn to her mouthing, and went back to eating. Any idea what she is? He asked of his partner, biting through another section of steak.
"I suppose. I say the geomancers go down and restore some of the planet gradually. The planets governments can then say that they have a miracle spray to excelerate the plants growth processes." In a not overly friendly tone. His voice as deep as ever. While he said that, he communicated with his dragon, [Haven't a clue...What's she smell like to you?] Tristan was still suspicious of most people. And didn't really extend any sort of attitude of trust if they weren't human or some other non-threatening species.
Vampire I'd say first off...But she has an under tone of what you smell like...Crusnik. A flicker of confusion entered Tristan's eyes as he took another bite of food, though was hidden by his glasses, and dissapeared before the food even left the fork in his mouth. [Impossible. Mages today know better than to mate with Vampires.]
Remember what Mathias said when you transformed. They make them in labs. Tristan had forgotten for a moment. But it was still unlikely that such a being would be in the Academy. They would be under military lock down only for use if the Blood Society broke the Arcane treaty.
Tristan swallowed his food, and reached for his cup. A nice swig of the substance put a pleasant burning sensation down Tristan's throat. It figured, that the hunter was immune to flame...but a simple liquid still caused that feeling.

"Is something wrong sir?" Kelsey asked with concern "Am I makeing you uncomfertible?" Kelsey looked at Tristan with worry. dumb question.
Of course Kelsey wasen't trying to piss him off but she did worry a lot she looked at the dragon. "Something I said or did?" She asked it, not knowing if it could talk or not she then shrugged and began to cut her steak.

Tristan glanced over as she said something. He knew that he'd done nothing to reveal his confusion. Something was up with this girl. "Nothing. Just a thought of things to come." He said simply, now taking a bite of some odd fruit that he'd picked off a tray. She feel what you were thinking or something? Igneus asked, biting through yet another bit of steak, and looking at the girl with his black, red, gold, and light blue eyes. The two latter colors were few and far between in Igneus' eyes, but they were there.
Tristan was being about as friendly as when he'd first arrived. He didn't like things that he would never have expected. As such, if she was a Crusnik...there could be a problem. If she was just a vampire...well...Tristan still didn't like Hominus Nocturna very much. Another swig, and a bite of steak.

Meanwhile, on a rooftop some distance away a figure sits. A large brute in appearance, completely covered in fur with no cloth covering. Not so different from the beasts that have terrorized human dreams since the beginnings of imagination, half wolf and half man. He sits... cross legged and breathing deeply, a perfect picture of calmness and serenity.
Machal opened an eye to glance again at the beaten book that sat in front of him. Machal had been siting in this position for about 2 hours now and was starting to get seriously cramped. Well thats what he got for transferring the ancient Life Day celibration to Earth Day. Really, if you looked at it the two holidays were mostly the same thing, giving thanks to the earth for being such a great planet. And ever since Machal had found out about the special Reklaw rituals he had performed them every year at this time.
Well, enough of this. Machal got up and turned to a few set out ritual items. Turning to each in turn he held them up, spoke a few words, and cast them into the sky. The first was a small bit of dirt, "Thank you ground. That we can stand on you and live." the next, a twig with a few leafs still attached. "Thank you plants. That you sustain us and our pray." next a small dish of water. "Thank you water. That we may live from you." and finally he appeared to clench a fist of nothing. "Thank you air. That you flow around us. For without any of these we are nothing."
Following the words Machal gathered his containers and book and placed them in a small sac. Now was his favorite part: the run. Machal prepped for a moment before launching himself off the roof. His powerful legs easily carrying him to the next building, he dashed on. Machal ran and lept about the city with his fullest energy, appearing only as a brown blur to those who would look up at the perfect moment. This was so thrilling to run and run and run with all his might. Nothing to chase and not chased by anything, just running. It was almost so thrilling that he could forget his loneliness, the fact that these rituals were supposed to be done as a pack, that Machal was a pack of one. He could almost forget... Almost...
Finally Machal came to a stop, his breathing heavy and his tongue lolling out of one side of his mouth. And now, one of the most important parts. Machal took a deep breath, threw back his head, and let out a howl. It started deep and quiet but quickly rose in both pitch and volume till it almost seemed to fill the entire city. A howl of the pure joy of being alive and healthy... with perhaps a tinge of sadness underneath.

Normally, you wouldn't expect someone who is a machinist by trade to be particularly enthusiastic about a day that celebrates the natural world. it's quite the contrary in Torm's case; today he attends the festival in a very reflective mood. After all, what are his mechanical creations but crude representations of the majesty of nature. A true naturalist might have grounds to see them even as blasphemous, twisted mockeries of the natural world.
Still, he is of this world as well, as are the minerals and magic within them. Also, Torm has a balance going between the mechanical and the natural; his casting style puts him very much in touch with the flow of mana that resides within all matter and life. Regardless, the day is a good one, and as suitable as any to appreciate nature and its infinite intricacies.
Torm grabs some food from the laden buffet tables and seats himself with his back against a tree. Despite the festival going on, it is still fairly peaceful here. Torm munches a sandwich he had stacked up and watches the lazy clouds float by for a bit.

Tristan looks over at the girl as she says something about the howling. "Thats just a werewolf...we have a few of them here. Theres probably only a couple I'd worry about...the rest of them are harmless as long as you don't fuck with 'em." He said, then returned to his food. [Can you confirm that she's a Crusnik?] He asked.
Not without seeing her fight. Tristan nodded to the response, he'd have to see about running into this young woman on the battle field somewhere. He polished off some more food, and was down to a couple of sips of booze. "Time to get more of this." He said to himself, but would wait until he was done eating, then just grab a half empty bottle.
