"Well here we are. This should be fun." Said Jyo as he and Ziare walked out to the training grounds with Ember by them. Jyo was planning on teaching Ziare some of the basics of combat with swords and then they could test each other's magic abilities against each other. he had not really trained against Ziare before. they had the short amounf of trianing in class but that was it.
He had brought two wooden longswords as he knew Ziare's melee combat abilities were more or less untested. He didn't want to push her as he was teaching her not training against her. That would come when they used magic. He had the feeling he would lose in the magic aspect against her.

Ziare nodded she had liked the idea of Jyo and her training together. They had fought once in class and it had gone all right but she did need to be able to defend herself physically. Her magic was top notch she was a magic user period not a fighter. But she knew that ignorance could cost her her life.
She kissed Jyo on the cheek and squeezed his upper arm lovingly once before they were to begin. She loved him and wanted to remind him before she fried him in the upcoming magic battle.
"I think this is going to be a date I will never forget." Ziare said with a wink and a smile giving Ember a hug. The wolf probably hated these but Zi couldn't help it despite his adamant belief that people were bad she loved this wolf and was glad he liked her.
"Take it easy on me love, my sword skills as you have seen are less than par."

"An interesting date to say the least." Jyo said hugging her back a bit. Ember still stiffend but to a noticably less degree than when she had first started showing such displays towards him. He knew he lack of reservation came from hi strong bond with jyo. He knew his other half never mentioned it but Jyo too had gained an amount of anomosity towards his own race as a whole But it was very faint in comparision.
Ember walked over and sat down not far from the two humans he knew as his family.
Jyo handed one of the longswords to Ziare.
"Don't worry love. I know you havent' practiced this much. Thats why I'm going to teach instead of attack." he said adpoting a strong fencing stance with his weapon in his left hand.
"No there are several options. First get a stance you find comfortable. you could mimic my own. but unless you are sure you want to try this style I use then find a way to be comforatable and still feel ready to attack and defend as well." he said.

Ziare moved opposite him and raised her fake sword in front of her. She spread her legs apart a comfortable amount and nodded that felt good. She had no idea if she was doing this right but she was glad it was Jyo teaching her not someone else.
"All right, this feels good I think." she said shrugging.

Jyo gave a nod.
"Alright then. Im sure we can refine it n a bit. But that seems a good stance to hold for now. Most begginers start out with a similar stance." he said. He himself had used something similar when he started.
"Now the first basic is the eight points of blade fighting." He said and he showed what he ment by slashin in eight directions up,down,left,right,down to the left, and then up to the right and up to the left then down to the right.
"Think of it like an eight pointed star. These will be the basic slashes one uses.' He said.

Ziare nodded and showed Jyo the moves that she had learned from him only a minute ago. She had watched him and now she was repeating his movements.
"All right I understand." she said nodding firmly and doing to motions again. "Eight pointed star I've gotcha."

He gave a nod of approval. Ziare was clearly a visual learner. She still would have to practice the moves of course but still. SHe already had a good basic grasp of what to do.
"Alright. Now both of us know you are not weak but physical strength is not your strong point. Which is fine. I'll teach you a few techniques that prove brute strength is not as useful as some may think. Now I want you to attack with a basic slash. i'll show you a parry." he said

Ziare nodded and concentrated on Jyo. Her face taught and thinking. She was trying to decide what slice to use.
She moved fast as she was agile though not strong and went for a horizontal slash across his waist. She didn't make any verbal sounds as she heard those were a dead give away but was silent and fast. She knew that Jyo would block it as he was not only more skilled but much stronger than she. But she was glad he was helping her in this way.

Jyo didn't block the attack. Not in a manner most would anyways. Instead he timed it so the base of his blade met the end of hersand he guided her blade to his side. It took no effort at al. It was clear no force was put into the move. But still. Ziare's blade would be way off course and would leave her open.
"A parry. Useing the laws of physics to your own advantage. Did you see how it was done? Or would you like another look before you give it a try?" He asked.

Ziare stood up normally and thought about the move he had made. She thought she understood but it had all moved so fast she would like another look.
"No one more time, it moved so fast I want to be sure." she said and walked back away from him before repeating the same move again but this time makeing sure she was watching his blade.

Jyo once more parried the attack. Moving slightly slower so Ziare could actually see the attack at work.
"See. Thats how it works. It's not about force. it's about knowing how to manipulate the weapons to your own ends. Not hard to pick up but it does need to be taught." He said smiling.
"So ready to give it a try?" He asked.

Ziare was able to watch better this time and felt that she understood what he was doing and telling her.
"All right, I think I understand." she said moving back away. "Hit me.." she said ready watching his movements hoping to get this on the first try.

Jyo grinned. 'Hit me' she had said. He knew he could do just that. but he wasn't aiming to do so. he attacked with a lunge. Aiming what would be the tip of the blade if it were metal right to where her heart was. He moved fast but not too fast for her. He just wanted her to operate how she would have to in battle.

Ziare saw the lunge and quickly used the blade she had to knock his out of the way so it would have pierced her shoulder not her heart. She smiled and stood up normally.
"Was that all right?" she asked looking a bit hopeful.

He gave a nod.
"As for the actual movments yes. The timeing could use work but of course thats why we are out right?' He said smiling and then resumed his stance waiting for her to get ready.
"So let's try again. Remember if you cant aviod the blow with a parry alone then move your body to dodge as well." he said
