Howdy and welcome Syril! Don't worry about your bio, personally I think it's impressive, the more detail the better for fleshing out a character right?

I wouldn't say not well-received, just... received with mixed feelings.
It's a very impressive bio, don't get me wrong, but one has to ask themselves when writing it out how useful some of the information will be. For instance, general likes/dislikes, would such a thing need a section in the bio? Or could it be information easily gleaned simply by talking to them in-character?
Of course, I've always been a purist when it came to bios, and these four-page ones detailing every little tiny minute detail of a character's life are all just too new-fangled for me.
Mostly, thing is, Syril, and while I DON'T think this is the case for you, not at all, many times when I see bios that long, it just gives off the impression that the particular player is trying too hard to 'look cool' or 'like an awesome writer'. It's simply what the case has been more often than not for me.
So, if this makes any sense, I like the bio... I just don't feel the majority of it is necessary.

That makes sense, and I'm glad you took the opportunity to confirm that; whether or not you intended it, you came off a little harsh in your initial comment. It's just a bit of a shock to finally put down a week's worth of work and have it meet with the denouncement "too long", you know? I think I can address some of the concerns you've voiced though, if you're interested in hearing the reasoning behind my work.
(rant)
I understand what your trying to say about the pertinence of the information in the bio; I've seen the examples you mention as well, where the writer includes many sections of roughly equal length detailing how their character's dormitory is decorated, or what kind of car he drives (Syril doesn't have one), things which would certainly qualify as unnecessary information. There is, however, one major factor in this particular bio, which contributes greatly to it's copious length; the fighting style. It takes up half the character sheet. The reason is that I designed the style and its mechanics myself from scratch, and I didn't want anyone to be confused about its form or use; so I put down every minute detail I possibly could, in order to prevent that. It really has nothing at all to do with intentionally increasing the bio's length. Even so, if you still believe the majority of that information to be irrelevant, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I respect that.^^
As for the smaller sections that I did include though, such as general likes/dislikes... they serve two purposes. The first is obviously to provide further insight into the character for other players. However, it is true that this information could be easily conveyed through roleplaying, which would render it unnecessary to that effect. There is, however, a second purpose for these sections, which is to remind me of what I've already decided that information shall be, so that I don't accidentally deviate from one post to another. I put a great deal of thought into these details, primarily for that purpose; I hate an inconsistent character, and I find this trend all too common in characters with minimalist bios which leave such details open to multiple interpretations. If you can remember precisely what you decided your character would like based on your previous postings, then all the more power to you; but my memory for these things is unfortunately poor, so I like to have it all laid out in front of me, if that makes any sense.

Oh yeah, and thank you Xavier. I look forward to RPing with you.^^

Honestly, I'm for Syril's writing style.
It's not so much really for others to read, if you get what I mean..
But more.. for the RPer himself to discover his own character, and see how they end up as. To learn more about him/herself.
>_> Granted, I have yet to read for myself the profile, but then, I figure it's mostly for your own reference at any rate.
Welcome to Arcane Academy!

On the contrary, Helpa-man, I see where this is how we are different in our views of the world of RP.
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in my opinion, that you put onto a roleplay board, is for the entertainment of those around you. That's why I RP, because I enjoy writing and reading a good story, and thus, I do my best to give that to everyone else. There's really not much of a personal journey in it for me, I develop my characters not for my own sake, but for the sake of the story.
Anyway, I feel as if my hard-headedness gave off the wrong impression. You're more than Welcome here Syril, and I'm personally glad to have you.

Eh, Vigilant, I don't mind if our views are different. You do bring up good points, at any rate, and I can't disagree, only interject.
I do agree in that most of this should be in the betterment of the forums's story(s). If by helping yourself learn your character allows you to RP with others and produce better stories, and the effects are better well..
<_< Let's just say, if the theories are different, but the products are the same, I'd go with either one.
Anyways, back to work for me.

Wow, now I've got staff members arguing over me. Should I be horored or scared? 0_o
Either way, thanks to both of you for being so welcoming (perverted jokes aside), and I'm glad to be here.^^

Sorry for the double post, but my history is in fact FINALLY finished; and it only took me a month!
Seriously though, I was procrastinating, and I apologize for not taking advantage of the many opportunities I had to complete this sooner. I have no excuse but laziness, I'm afraid.
*hangs head in shame*
Still though... I do look forward to getting my chance to RP with you all, considering how long I've made ya wait. Peace.^^
