Hey, Nanashi, how's it going?
I'll be in Ireland for a few days, and a rematch off of academy grounds would kick ass. If you're interested, I'll be at.....
That was how the note read, up until the directions to the forest Roy would be camping at. Roy had left it on the door of Nanashi's dorm, after tracking it down with a public-acess database.
Roy was in Ireland, celebrating his assent to "Spellcaster" status. He had gotten a letter from his aunt, on his mother's side, about wanting to meet him. She diddn't want to meet him until she had a chance to clear it with the elder elves of her village, however. That was why he was camping in the forest, instead of staying at his aunt's house.
That gave him time for a rematch with Nanashi, since it was only 10 A.M., by his watch.
He stood about 100 yards into the forest, lost in thought, dressed in his Inoan Warrior garb, not really having anything else to wear at the time.
He stood amidst the trees, thinking about a book he had read. After fighting the fragment of the demon Melzas, the different circles of hell seemed plausible.

A rematch with Roy. To Nanashi, it was quite an intriguing idea. Having to go all the way to Ireland wasn't quite as, but this would be worth it: Roy had come the closest to beating Nanashi for at least a couple of years.
Well, what was he waiting for? Find the portal closest to the desired location, and then drive the rest of the way in a rent-a-car, park as close as was convenient, and then start the semi-long trek: Maybe as far as two miles. He eventually reached the forest.
At the border of the forest he rested. Then, he began to make his way into the forest. What seemed like almost instantly after the previous hike, he found Roy.
"Why hello there."
Nanashi was standing about ten feet from Roy, give or take a foot. He was ready for combat, but first, in preparation of disaster. Two mages, both of which capable of using fire, battling inside a forest was a forest fire waiting to happen. And then, of course, the Arcane Academy's healers weren't in Ireland. So...
"There's a cell phone by the edge of the forest. We may need it. 9-1-1 is '9' on the speed dial. But..."
Nanashi swung his left leg back, drew his sword, and assumed a fighting stance. He wouldn't split it just yet, not unless he needed to. He gripped the handle with both hands, extending the blade forward. He had no reason to fear someone grabbing the blade: against someone who knew metal elementalism, that was a very bad idea.
"Let us do what I came here for. Challenger makes the first move, and besides, I did last time..."

"First off, don't worry about causong a fire. I have some family VERY nearby, and most of them are water mages."
With that, a young woman of about 70.....ok, young for an elf, at least. They never died of old age. The woman came out from behind a tree, and with one stron movement of her arms, Roy and Nanashi were standing in a clearing, surrounded by Elves on all sides.
"We're ready to stop any sort of stray energy from harming the forest.", a particularly old elf said.
Roy was taken aback for the moment. It was a sudden shift in environment, and Roy had planned on using "Home-Field Advantage", but that was out of the picture.
"So, you want me to make the first move? Fine by me."
Roy's opening was NOT a simple movement. He kicked his left foot toward Nanashi forcefully, sending the dagger in his boot outward toward Nanashi.
Of course, the dagger wouldn't actually harm him, because he wasn't undead, or a demon. But it would hopefully catch him off guard.
Roy moved again, this time with the fammiliar speed that Nanashi would recognize. Faster than a human, and all that stuff.
When he came within four feet of Nanashi, Roy would make a small jump to the side, and say "Ignus".
He would then try and hit Nanashi with a barrage of flaming punches. If they connected, it would hurt like hell, but with the elven healers in the vicinity, it wouldn't leave any scars.

Well, so much for that. It seemed that an equivalent of Arcane Academy's healers were around, and forest fires were not an issue. Besides, Nanashi himself could douse a small fire with his water scroll.
But on to the fight. First... A knife? Well, that wouldn't be hard to deal with. With a quick leap back to get some breathing room, Nanashi whacked the knife out of the air with his sword. Easy.
Next, fire punches. Since the "Punch" part wouldn't be particularly dealy, that meant the fire had to go. And what better to get rid of fire than water? One hand flew from the sword, into Nanashi's robe, and pulled out one of his many scrolls.
"Water!"
Guess what came out of the scroll? Water! Water that could then be target to elementalism.
"Shield!"
The water rose off of the ground, forming a barrier between Nanashi and the fire. Since it took a surprisingly massive ammount of heat to change water's material form (solid-liquid-gas), and there was a good ammount of water between Nanashi and Roy, it was extremely unlikely that the punches would make it through.
Now for the counterattack. Nanashi's left hand, which was still holding his sword, thrusted at Roy through the shield, which allowed the sword to go through. It was a quick attack, meant to catch Roy off guard, and maybe get him vulnerable.

Well, Roy's punches diddn't go through, but he followed through with the combo anyway. Even if his fists were no longer on fire.
He diddn't know why, but he heard an elven girl giggle, and wonder who the guy in the red and gold was.
Why was it that girls always seemed to fall for the guy Roy was fighting? Ah, well. Roy diddn't really care, anyway. It was a rematch, not some kind of "Impress the girls" rally.
And boom! Roy gets distracted, and hit by a small attack from Nanashi. It diddn't do anything but startle him, due to the leather chest-protector Roy was wearing, but it caught him off guard, and caused him to stumble backwards.
Roy went back with the momentum, fast enough to turn it into a back handspring, and land on his feet.
That was embarrasing.
Right...time for the old standby.
"Soanates.", Roy said under his breath. He had learned not to scream out the incantations, since that lead to being predicted.

Well, since Roy was wearing armor, that didn't do much. Only a little push, maybe a little damage to the armor. It probably would have done a little more if Nanashi hadn't been right-handed...
Oh well, now there was distance. And distance meant long-range attacks. Since Roy didn't act instantly, Nanashi, having fought him before, had to assume that he was casting Sonates: his annoying little stun spell.
"Oh no. Not this time."
Nanashi muttered under his breath. Quickly, he pulled out another scroll, unrolled it, and said the magic (litterally) word.
"Earth."
A wall of earth raised itself directly beneath Nanashi's feet, lifting him up. Just before it stopped moving, Nanashi used the momentum to assist a jump, bringing him out of the Sonates's range, regardless that it was rather wide. He was around twenty feet in the air, and only about three feet from Roy. No way that it could reach him here. Now, for the counterattack.
"Earth part two."
The wall that Nanashi had just made cracked a little, turning it into several decently-sized boulders. All of them flew toward Roy, with Nanashi about to land somewhere behind him. If Roy dodged back, he would have Nanashi on top of him. If he jumped in advance, he would run straight into Nanashi. If he went to either side, the boulders could follow him.
And leather armor wouldn't help against 30-pound rocks.

Well, that couldn't be good. Nanashi seemed to have gotten used to how Roy was "All over the place", so to speak.
If Roy jumped back? Boom. If he dodged to the side? Boom. Straight up? Boom.
Time to get creative.
"Hmmm...interesting."
Roy unleashed his staff, and planted it into the first boulder that reached him, using its own force to swing it into another one. As Nanashi landed, he pole-vaulted off of another boulder, and landed behind the boulders.
They were...following him? Well SHIT.
"Damnit!"
Well, Roy's focus was primarily on dodging boulders at the moment, and Nanashi was the one with an advantage.
Go figure.

OOC: Forgot this in last post... Scroll of Earth: 3 Scroll of Earth Part 2: 3 Total: 6 Remaining: 15
IC: Well, this was turning out differently than last time. Last time Roy had had the 'Upper hand', having stunned Nanashi with Sonates. Three times. But this time was different. Roy was busy dodging rocks, and Nanashi was free to do what he wanted.
It was then that he remembered that he was twenty feet up.
And that a ten-foot fall could break bones.
Well, this was a problem. And he had probably around ten seconds to fix it. So, he could either slow the fall, or cushion the landing. Or both.
First, Nanashi softened the ground he was going to hit. Then, he created a gust upward, similar to Roy's jump spell, and touched down easily without so much as a bruise. Roy, of course, wouldn't have done anything because he was... preoccupied.
So, what next? Why, help the boulders out, of course! Maybe even try to end this quickly. There was one easy way to do that: Probably Nanashi's main finisher. But no, that wouldn't work as well on an opponent who wasn't exhausted or out of mana. The simplest, of course, would to just let the rocks do their job. But that was too simple. Make it easier for them
Nanashi took out yet another scroll, unrolled it, and said the word.
"Wood."
Several root look-alikes came out of the ground around Roy, and would wrap around and bind him if he didn't do anything, letting the boulders do their work.
The result? Major pain.

Well, Roy had an idea. Yay for watching too much anime, and playing Megaman into the wee hours of the night!
It might just have saved his life, if Nanashi had gotten carried away, or something.
Roy jumped up onto one of the boulders as it went for his legs, dimly aware of roots spiraling out of the ground, and rode it toward another boulder, jumping off, and letting them smash each other.
Several were still following him, however.
Another anime inspired idea struck him! Use the boulders against Nanashi!
He bolted toward Nanashi, staff drawn, ready to try a simple strike..........
And hoping the boulders were still folowing him.

Damn.
But it had been luck. Still, it was inconvenient. And now Roy was charging. Since the rocks were tracking him, that meant, if they hit Roy, that would be a bunch of rock on top of Roy... on top of Nanashi. Not cool. Ok, time to stop the rocks. All of them stopped dead where they were, and hit the ground. Now for a bit of close quarters fighting. A simple strike? Obviously, Roy had planned on the rock thing. Too bad for him.
Nanashi jumped over the strike, and aimed a slash at Roy's fingers. If it hit, it would effectively disarm him unless he was EXTREMELY resiliant to pain. Besides, reflex would make him drop his staff and withdraw his hand, most likely. And once disarmed, he was much more vulnerable.

Reflex made Roy's right hand drop his staff, as Nanashi's blade bit into his fingers, but he was able to catch it with his left, and he quickly regained his composure.
That had hurt like hell. That wasn't good for Nanashi. Roy had gained partial control over his fire magic, but he still couldn't keep his hands from bursting into flame when he was pissed off.
He was in close range, and it would be hard for his opponent to dodge a Soanates spell THIS close up.
"Soanates.", Roy said, in a calm tone of voice, his right hand opening, scant inches from Nanashi's body.
As soon as he cast the spell, Roy would turn on his heels, and strike Nanashi across the chest with his staff.

"Sonates."
PROBLEM! PROBLEM! PROBLEM!
Sonates couldn't be blocked, and at this range there was little chance of dodging. He could at least try, though. At point blank, the range would be quite narrow in comparison to what it would be from farther away, and that was pretty much Nanashi's only hope, besides the fact that he wasn't exactly slow.
Almost in slow motion, as soon as Nanashi's feet touched the ground, he pushed off again, going to the right. In midair, he felt an annoyingly familiar sensation of numbness engulf the left half of his body. ONLY the left half. Well, better than all of him. Still, the landing wouldn't be plesant. He landed on his right side, skidded a little, then pushed himself up with his right hand and rolled over onto his left side. Now, at least, he had his sword arm and sword available, to defend himself agains anything coming his way...

"Here we go."
Roy ran foreward, fist becoming engulfed in flame once more as he shouted his Ignus spell again. his left hand was pulled back, with his staff in it, and what was happening to the staff made him grin.
It was wreathed in fire, fire hot enough to melt steel. His staff barely withstood the flames, and only survived due to the "Fireproof" enchantment.
The pain in both his hands was worth the extra force, since he was trained so that his skin never burned, even if he felt the pain.
He mad a quick spin as he ran, hurling the flaming rod at Nanashi. As the staff flew at him, Roy fell into step behind it, jumped to the left, and threw a flaming punch at Nanashi's left side.

Well, crap.
Another problem. But it wouldn't be too hard to deal with. Roy was directly behind his staff, which was burning like crazy. Not the best choice of position, seeing as Nanashi could manipulate all the major elements...
Nanashi the staff stop in midair, then fly back at Roy, who was running full speed ahead. Without insane reflexes and speed, Roy would run right into, and be run into by, his own flaming staff, and be hurt severely, and probably set his armor and clothes on fire. Regardless of how resilient he was to heat, if he was being surrounded by flames like that, it WOULD hurt like hell, and it might just be lethal. However, Roy would undoubtedly do something before the flames spread that far. Either that or someone else would.
But while Roy was dealing with his problem, Nanashi slowly stood up. He was precariously unbalanced, with almost all of his weight on his right foot and his left arm hanging at his side. His right hand sheathed his sword, then reached inside his robe and pulled out his Scroll of Fire. Roy was already having trouble with flame, why not increase it?
"Wrap!"
The scroll flew out of Nanashi's hand, unrolling in midair, and started making tight circles around Roy, wrapping around him. If that succeeded, then Nanashi would then activate the scroll.
"Fire!"
And just to make things worse...
"Amplify!"
Now, if all that was successful, the result would be Roy, wrapped up in the scroll, which then burst into flame. The flames would then practically double, as well as any others in the area. If everything went as destructively as possible, Roy was not coming out of there in good condition.
The possibility of him dying was slim, because he had his clothing and unnatural resilience to fire to protect him. But that didn't stop the pain...
OOC: Aren't I evil...?
Wrap: 1 Scroll of fire: 3 Fire amplification: 1 Total: 1 or 5, depending on if wrap is successful. Remaining: 8 or 4.

Fire....all around me......the heat....it burns.
Roy went to his knees, screaming in pain. This wasn't how it was supposed to go.....this was just like one of Reydan's training sessions.
What are you doing? Dissipate the flames! Please!
Reydan...you bastard......I'll...kill you......kill you.....
"GrrrrrAAAAAAAAAAHHH!"
Roy shouted, a sound of pure rage, hatred, and anguish. He bolted out of the flames, straight at Nanashi. His hands were still on fire, and his clothes were scorched.
Considering they were enchanted to withstand heat of up to 40,000 degrees, that was a big deal.
"HAAAAH!"
Roy launched a roundhouse kick at Nanashi's face, followed by a series of two-fingered strikes to various pressure points.
Reydan's training was coming back to him. What the mind had forgotten, the body was starting to remember.
