Name: Rui Mu Ming
Occupation: Apprentice Element Master
Nationality: Chinese
Height: 5 foot 10 inches
Weight: 174 pounds
Age: Eighteen
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Blue
Appearance: Rui has an air to him that tingles with residual energy both the one he is able to tap into and the one he isn’t able to tap into. There is that distinct sort of lofty expression that he almost always wears around people with that trademark indifferent look. His expression is one that is practiced no matter what he is conveying it is carried out with a graceful perfection. Each movement is measured and not wasted in the slightest. Rui’s hair is tied back with a simple tie to keep it out of his eyes or looking semi-formal. His pale skin is flawless having no imperfections to ruin the overall look and appeal. The garb that he wears is the more traditional flowing robes that are associated with the Ming family during the time of their great dynasty in china. His pale blue eyes suggest an inner peace and wisdom that many foolishly and vainly attempt to obtain only to fail in their arrogance. Rui has several pouches on his garb with small items here and there that is wise to travel with or that he needs for a spell. He is very quiet but, not on purpose so at times he may startle others by suddenly being behind or beside them giving his own comment on a conversation that he had been listening to.
Personality: A calm and inquisitive demeanor is what guides Rui’s thoughts as he firmly believes in the family tradition of the element mastery and ascension. He believes that is the one that will transcend and achieve what pass generations of his family could not. This has made him arrogant and making him feel that he is above the normal rules of play. He only follows rules when it suits him and it is not getting in his way. He doesn’t listen to the orders of another firmly believing that he doesn’t need someone who doesn’t know him to decide things for him. His temper is not the thing you would want to arouse being that he takes it to a near wrath-like state in getting his retribution. Mastery of the elements is what drives him and he will use any means necessary to achieve that goal. The ends justify the means and he has a firm belief in that. This has often led to cold or unknown decisions the pathway he walks almost mystic. Some actions are good, some actions are neutral, and some are evil but, he doesn’t listen to that. He only follows what he believes is the path to transcending the mortal body and gaining a power far beyond what is considered normal to a mage.
History: Rui is the heir to a long legacy of elementalists that are well-known in the magical world for their single-minded dedication to mastery of the elements. He coming from selective breeding the family attempting to bring forth not only a child that would be gifted in magic but, also have the social graces innate with them. Rui was the first child of Mina and Sai the two deeply proud that a son was gifted to them on the first time that they had tried. Rui was carefully spoken too even though he was too young to learn they were carefully ingraining things into him. Small little social graces and movements, patience and diligence, even how to know to be quiet when it was needed, each little thing taking time to learn. Rui was unaware of the legacy he too young to grasp the full depth of it when he first learned to speak. His ability to give a bright and perfect smile to gain attention was something that he thrilled in since he always found them stuffy. If they were going to give him attention at least make it interesting.
Rui was slowly trained each step of the way. Each step he took in his learning the further he stepped away from an innocent and carefree childhood that was all about fun and games. He didn’t realize what he was missing he like all children at that age or at least many of them just wanted to please the parents and gain benedictions. Where for others it would be in the form of hugs or cookies for Rui it was praise and thanks to the spirits above that he was so gifted. At the age of six Rui was fully capable of sitting at the table and adding little comments even if they didn’t amount to much. It showed that he was a patient and diligent listener trying to understand the world around him. With his parents studying him in interest they also were worried and hoping he would show his gifts soon. The child was from two powerful magical lines he would surely have abilities it was genetics. Rui did show his potential a few months later after his seventh birthday he during his own time had learned to mess around with water.
He was able to manipulate water as he pleased and was using it to shape things with the water giving a laugh as he was slowly learning the control on his own. His parents were shocked when he was doing it so casually the water seeming to dance on his fingers. They took him aside and talked to him not disciplining him but, instead embracing him warmly for his use of magic. He was slowly trained by his family his aunt and uncle both adept at wielding water having started their affiliations with that element as well. While both were talented the young man that came to them was a natural with the element. The water didn’t reject him rather instead it flowed with him and treated him as if he were the same thing. Rui grew rather well under the tutelage of his aunt and uncle slowly able to better grasp and understand the elements. More importantly gain a respect for that element that he had at his command.
For several years Rui was trained in the arts of elemental magic slowly learning and adding to his repertoire of spells. There was no limit to the insatiable curiosity that the young man had and his aunt and uncle at times had to send him to the family library while they tried to come up with new lessons for him. After all you could only teach someone so quickly before running out of ideas and using repetition to stall until you could think of something new. By sixteen Rui was fully bonded with his element that of water and he even learned to call a water elemental to his side as his familiar. The elemental teaching Rui things that his aunt and uncle could not being a being that was truly associated with the element. Finally a cable teacher for Rui as he continued to listen and study under the intelligent being occasionally learning from others to increase his own knowledge; all this in exchange for a bond of trust with the elemental and a forging of friendship.
Now at the age of eighteen Rui has headed to the Arcane Academy to expand his knowledge even more thoroughly and truly reach his lifelong goal. He has mastered the element of water and seeks to go much further until he obtains not only his own dream but, the hopes of his family.
Style: Elementalism
What many consider the foundation of many of the magics that exist today Elementalism is the manipulation of the elements to ones will. The known elements are air, earth, water, fire, metal, wood, light, dark, and spirit. These are the nine elements that exist in the world. There are millions of sub-elements that derive from these primary nine. Elementalism is the invoking of these mystic elements and manipulating them to the will of the caster. Members of the Ming family who have for thousands of years showed talent in this mystic ability have long believed that in order to master the elements you must master one at a time. The Ming family members were long known as Element Masters for their single-willed focus in mastering a single element before taking on another. Only someone who is blessed by fate it is said will be able to master all nine elements. The mastery of all nine elements is said to give the one who has worked so hard an ascended state. Whether or not this is true the Ming family has pursued this hallowed goal for thousands of years. The powerful line trailing down each generation each previous generation hopeful that the next will produce the one that will ascend. Currently Rui has a tremendous control over the element of water and is expected to gain mastery over several elements with his brilliance and natural gifts.
Strengths: Rui’s dedication and focus over the mastery of things makes him a powerful Mage in his own right capable of throwing out spells left and right. His natural gifts in Elementalism often leave him with only his creativity in terms of limitation to his own ability. He often finds ingenious ways to manipulate the element helping him conserve or replenish mana. With the right combination he could create sub-element attacks such as lightning or ice in his spell casting combinations.
Weaknesses: Rui’s focus is elementalism period. Thus learning attacks outside of elementalism he will look at with a look that is one of complete confusion. His single minded focus of spell mastery leaves him weak in physical combat he relying on spell combinations to carry him through a battle. Without access to an element it will cost more since he has to create it first before he can use it. Although Rui is intelligent it is this reliance on magic that is his greatest weakness since without mana he is powerless to stop an enemy.
Spell List: Current spells that Rui has.
[Water Element]
[/li][li]Water Walk – Being bonded to a water elemental, Rui has gained such a strong affinity for water that he is able to walk on the surface. This requires little if any mana to perform though it requires some concentration and an effort of will on his part. Should he lose his focus he could very easily sink or drop into the water completely at the exact moment he loses his control completely. Rui has the equivalency of freedom of movement when under water moving easily and without hindrance.
[/li][li]Fission Reaction – Rui is able to break down the molecular bonds in water-based chemicals and feed on the released energy to recover his mana. The more fluid used the more mana recovered. The mana is recovered roughly at a rate of one mana for every two liters dispersed in this fashion. This is because the absorption of energy is not perfect yet. This does require a small amount of energy to get it going after words it is a chain reaction until Rui stops it.
[/li][li]Water Breathing – With Water his primary element Rui is able to breathe water as someone would breathe air without the need of gills. This is a natural ability given his element focus and requires no concentration or thought it being automatic now.
[/li][li]Healing Water – Rui basically infuses the water with magic turning it into a temporary potion that lasts a couple of hours. The water has to be consumed and it heals injuries based on how much energy was put into it (one to one ratio). Being that the spell has more temporary nature Rui saves this for after a battle when he has energy to spare.
[/li][li]Whirlpool Shield – Rui is able to manipulate water to form a protective bubble around him that swirls around at high speeds. This high speed rotation makes it harder for enemies to get attacks through as the cyclone of water will deflect enemy attacks away from Rui. The high speed rotations not only affect physical attacks but, also magical attacks as well. Rui has to have a good deal of water to work with and starting the shield uses a small amount of energy. The shield collapses after a few rounds and must be restarted again.
[/li][li]Call Water Elemental – This is Rui’s summoning ability relying again on his close bond to water. The elemental called is a water elemental by a name that roughly translates to Saeri as the elemental says. The elemental has a mental bond with Rui and is capable of many water-based attacks and even calling more water. This makes an important combination with Rui and they both work together for devastating combinations.
[/li][li]Manipulate Water – This ability is just as it is intended to be. Rui manipulates water into any form of his choosing. The larger the attack or defense the more water that Rui needs to use it. Manipulating water costs a small amount of energy with each usage and requires that Rui have water to work with. His only limits with this ability come down to how much water he has to work with and how much water he can control. Rui can control a fairly large amount within reason of course. This could be used to strike with tendrils, slam in with a wave, create a sudden wall, or create sharpened needles of water. The amount of things he could do relies on his own cleverness. He can not create water with this ability he is only manipulating it.
[/li][li]Liquid State – Rui has the ability to transform himself into a water-like state and freely move around anyway he wishes. During this state he can manipulate himself much like he can water and physical attacks go right through him. However, electrical attacks do much more against him and ice attacks are more likely to freeze him in place so he has to be careful.
[/li][li]Water Lens – Rui’s fine manipulation and knowledge of the water element has led him to be able to create lenses to focus the light of the sun. Create a bubble of water that floats in the air Rui creates a highly focused lens and uses sunlight as a ranged weapon. The more water used the larger the lens, the large the beam, the more damage it could do. However, this also means that the larger the lens the more steady the drain on his energy this attack does. Typically Rui will create a large lens for a brief couple seconds or a small lens for a long while.
[/li][li]Sleeping Entrapment – Throwing a well-ground blue powder into the air Rui will actually call forth water from the elemental plane of water and use it to entrap his foes in it. The water forms around the powder and allows it to dissolve in it. It then travels and quickly encases an opponent in water. The water is forced to where an opponent will have to breathe it in the powder a very heavy sedative. How quickly the sedative works relies on endurance but, once it kicks in the powder can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours with shorter and longer times depending on size. This takes a small amount of energy to start but, requires a steady focus and control at times adding more energy to keep an opponent restrained. Keep in mind this attack is avoidable and the blue powder makes the water much easier to see.
[/li][li]Depth Charge – This is an interesting ability Rui will release balls of energy in the water and lash the water towards an opponent The energy balls explode upon contact creating the concussive power of a depth charge not only injuring an opponent but, also disorienting and possibly stunning. Rui is capable of creating eight of these at once currently and the spell being a contact spell only uses a small amount of energy. The blast of the charges is roughly two to three meters at Rui’s current level.
[/li][li]Drowning Grip – This is what many call a coupe de grace attack. Rui will form a hand of water calling from the plane of water once more to form it. Calling this hand forth uses a small amount of energy. The hand is manipulated with one of Rui’s hands and his will. This is often an attack that will cause an opponent to lose consciousness or die if they are too weak. The hand grips the enemy and applies pressure to the throat slowly squeezing. The hand’s vice-like grip squeezed the area it is around as well (i.e. arms, chest, and upper legs). Rui only uses this attack when he is trying to kill or take something out. By cutting off an opponent’s air Rui is effectively choking them and can even lift some opponents into the air while choking them to further restrain their actions. This is a pure battle against an opponent’s strength or energy Rui having to constantly feed the attack with energy.
Weapons/Gear: Rui does not use any weapons his only noticeable equipment being small medical pouches and herb pouches to take care of himself in the field or another since he does not have any healing magic at the moment. Rui also carries vials of water on his person so that he has water to work with in any situation.
Items: Rui currently has no items.
Note: Familiar to be added soon. Currently conducting research still on Water Elementals.
Statistics: Apprentice level abilities.
