Name: Fyn Lei Xu
Nickname: Feeves
Occupation: Apprentice Shapeshifter
Nationality: Chinese
Height: 6’0
Weight: 180
Age: 19
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Black
Appearance:
The Flowing white robes are a symbol of the Xu's. Each Xu mantleholder has a different colored robe that signifies the color of their transformational dragon. Fyn's Dragon is one of white, so he wears the flowing robes of ice. In addition he carried a quarterstaff of wood, though one day he hopes to inherit the legendary nyoi-boi or golden tipped cudgel that his family has heralded for many a generation.
Legend has it that the monkey king himself presented the cudgel to the Xu family's mantleholder at the time.
Personality:
Joviality mixed with quiet. He never approaches another to begin conversation, rather waiting for them to initiate. It isn’t so much that Fyn is introverted or anything, he just appreciates silence for what it is… A chance to reflect on oneself. There isn’t always a need for words in the world. There is a place for individuality and there is certainly a place for teamwork. When he opens up though, Fyn gives in to all of the quick thinking he can muster and speaks as quicksilver.
Fyn tends to be open-minded, though tends to suffer from a debilitating hubris. He has a belief that he is capable of doing things on his own that he really shouldn’t be doing in the first place. He also tends to look down on other forms of magic, believing them insignificant in comparison with his own art. Dutiful to others at times, but one has to wonder if he does it merely because it pleases him. He tends not to vocalize his thoughts on his views, and isn't shallow enough to leave clues, but there is always a certain subtle arrogance about him.
In battle he is feral. He knows of no honor system save his own, and fights as animalistic as his heritage allows.
History:
The eldest in a family of 6, Fyn is the legacy holder of one of the last shape-shifter families alive. A tradition passed down through blood, shape-shift magic has been the steward of the Xu family for generations. Fyn is the newest member to assume the mantle, and his family was astonished by his rapid learning. He had always excelled in calligraphy and studies of the Chinese language and by age 9 was one of the best artists in the land.
Soon Ge Xu the family’s head, and Fyn’s father, took him aside to teach him the art of shapeshifting. Ge had no doubt in his mind that Fyn would be able to master shapeshifting within 5 years. Within weeks Ge saw his son taking on forms of rabbits and mice, a feat that held great promise. Yet Fyn wanted more. He saw how proud his father was, and realized that only he by himself could create such pride. He studied hard on his own. He learned at an ever dizzying pace, and soon mastered the totemic transformation of the dire bear. Yet there was more to learn. Soon he had taken the form of a swallow, and then a tiger. By his tenth birthday, Fyn demanded absolutely of his father that he be given the family heirloom and secret form.
Ge relented. The mantle of the dragon was something that not many could take. All of the Xu family had taken it but at an older age. Much older. He himself had learned it when he was 15 or 16. And each dragon was unique in form. His own was a blue water dragon. He was curious to see his son’s transformation, but at the age of 10… He doubted one so young could master it. Not only that but it was a dangerous transformation, one that could permanently shatter the life of one so young. As Ge suspected, the dragon transformation ended in failure. 6 times did Fyn attempt to test himself. 6 times did he fail. Every time he nearly lost his mind to the call of the wild dragon. Even his color was unknown at the time.
“Patience,” Ge would say each time, before walking away. Fyn desperately ignored him. He read and studied, and read some more, feverishly looking for that one attribute that would allow the dragon to materialize. In a single moment he had his epiphany and he immediately delved into it, devouring all he could of the knowledge. The Dragon’s mind became his own… And for a moment saw everything he needed.
“Patience indeed…”
Ge was astonished the next morning when he found the White Serpent curled about the meditation pool where Fyn had been studying. Moments later the serpent had transformed back to the shape of a human. Indeed a prodigy. Ge at last saw that it was time to allow his pupil to do the one thing that he had always wanted.
To go to school. Fyn had never had the chance to school like a normal child, and at age 10 enrolled. His mother thought of course that it was a silly endeavor. Her son should drop such school to focus on his magic training. Feng Yuan, his mother, was a particularly adept shaman who had always insisted that magic was far more important to the survival of man than any silly tricks with mathematics or physics for that matter. And it was even more unnerving to her to see that Fyn didn’t even try in school. His grades remained constant despite the lack of work he put in, and his studies in shape-shifting quickly fell behind his original curve. To her Fyn just wasn’t trying or working.
In truth, Fyn had hit his wall. He was unable to progress farther, and despite reading, and learning, he was unable to increase his magical capacity beyond the forms he had learned. His care for school quickly dropped when he found he was unable to be the best.
Finally his mother urged him to go to school to learn to control the magic better, but Fyn being as stubborn as always refused. His father sided with him also wishing for him to finish his education in the real world first, to better understand his place in the universe. Feng and Ge often argued over the point, leaving Fyn to his own devices, to ponder why his limits were thus. Even studying… he was unable to place that last point into anything. At last… after 9 years… he was able to develop his ultimate spell. Yet he was unable to do anything further.
Finally he relented after he graduated from high school to train with the Arcane Academy. His mother rejoiced. She being an alumni of course made her more than happy to help her son apply to the magic school. Of course she was slightly worried. The Arcane Academy had not specifically sanctioned the use of Shape-shifting in their world... And therefore felt that her son may be at a disadvantage.
But it was not something Fyn often worried about. He would increase his limit. No matter what effort it took.

Shapeshifting: The art of shapeshifting is a lost bit of magic. To be fair, it encompasses far more than just mere shape. It also involves a mastery of trickery magic akin to that of the ancient Monkey king. Each mantle holder of the Shape-shifters have one unique spell to call their own, drafted from many years of development and practice. As well each family of shapeshifters holds a particular token animal that all mantleholders will eventually be able to use. The Xu family uses the mantle of the dragon, a divine form given to them by the man closest to God.
There are other families that practice the shapeshifting art, but it is believed they were lost long ago. Those who are able to shapeshift forms are merely those who integrate a small part of the magic into themselves. There are many more complexities and facets to shapeshifting that even those who have dedicated their entire life to it have not found.
There is an extensive and traditions that the art safeguards. One of these traditions is the non-triviality of name. One's name is the core of oneself, one's true form. To easily give away a name is akin to parting with another form. Thus to learn the true name of a shapeshifter is a sign of great respect. Thus Fyn has always used his nickname, Feeves to identify himself to an outsider.
Strengths:
Actual use of shape-changing magic is immune to being silenced. If silenced Fyn may still go into his forms. In addition the focus of the magic is confusion. It isn’t an art that involves direct attacks through magic but rather trickery of form and trickery of mind and the raw power of the creatures that one changes into, a style that involves malleability of mind and body. In animal forms he is able to speak with animals, and as well has associated sense ehancements that are associated with the animal, as well as instincts to help him better control his form.
In addition, forms are immune to energy drains.
Fyn's strength's are drawn from his personality. He rarely fights, preferring to be patient and make peace. Never confuse patience with complacency though for to think he would merely let others do with him what they please would be a regrettable mistake. He is one capable of seeing what others are most likely to do, and also highly resilient.
Weaknesses:
The Strength is also weakness. No direct attacks means that Fyn has to rely on amounts of effort to trick his opponents into defeating themselves, or get bored from attacking him. It is a style of patience.
Shape changing is taxing. 4 shifts in a row will completely exhaust Fyn, no matter how much mana he has, even less if he uses his feral dragon. This will increase in time, but certainly not quickly. Ambient form does not fall under such restrictions All stat increases offered will cut off at the maximum number of points per level and the least number of points per level (ie 5 and 25 at apprentice). In addition each form has its own associated strengths and weaknesses, aside from the legendary dragon, which remains the only form without visible weakness. Still since it is an ice dragon, one can only imagine fire might deal it some damage.
There are also points where Fyn may lose his mind to the feral spirit that he chooses to come together with.
Even despite these things, Fyn's greatest weakness is a silent, insufferable pride. He actively hates losing, and as well he can be very arrogant, believing himself better than his opponent, regardless of experience on either side. This silent weakness is a product of personality, and not likely something that he can easily fix. It clashes directly with his practiced patience, and can rear its head at the most trying times.
Spell List:
Feral Dragon form: A technique used by the Xu family exclusively, it transforms Fyn into a feral dragon. His wisdom increases by 50%, and his strength and endurance increases by 25%. He is unable to use any additional spells or weapons and can only shift into another form.
The feral dragon is actually two forms that can morph between each other. One is a more european form, and the other is more asiatic. Neither form offers any additional stat advantages, and changing between the two takes no energy.
In either form, the color is white, the element of ice and snow. This dragon was generally found in the very remotest regions of ancient China, and is considered the wisest of the dragons. Indeed finding an old white dragon is a rarity even amongst magic users. Ge assumed that the dragon had chosen Fyn for his above average wisdom in combat.
The art of dragon transformation is so secretive that most shifters would rather reveal their ultimate spell, that they spent their lifeblood on toiling and perfecting than reveal the color of their dragon. However in these trying times, a revival of the shapeshifter's magic may involve swallowing pride and letting other's witness the majesty of the form for themselves.

A beast of great diligence and patience, one that is peaceful and sturdy, it is a representative of the shifter class on a whole. No other creature can quite compare in endurance. The bear is difficult to harm with a body capable of taking hits over and over and over again.
Fyn's bear form has a range of colors, though he most prefers white. At times he also takes on the form of a brown bear, mostly when merely showing off. The brown color denotes a lack of seriousness when, and the tatoos that mar the body must glow silver before it can be deemed ready to even consider combat. As with most shifting traditions, it is esoteric and difficult to understand to the outsider. Fyn simply chooses to not explain such things unless he fully trusts his target.
The bear is quite large, a good 6 feet in length at least, though when Fyn enters the form as a great white bear, length is measured to be at least 8 feet. In such a combat form, the tatoos that mark the bear shine a silver color in moonlight. The tatoos are ancient runic symbols denoting the sacredness of the bear.
