He's toying with me. If I loose it, the fire will hit him, but the strain will weaken me. If I don't, the fire will die, and the soul flayer will rip me apart. I look like I have the advantage, but I am really in no place to do anything.
And that's where your wrong.
MOM! I thought you had left.
I did. But it looks like you need a little push in the right direction. Son, listen, what happens when you shift to your hybrid form?
Aside from scaring anyone who looks at me? I become stronger and faster... more powerful. But you already knew that.
Yes, but what do you think would happen to that fire if you shifted forms?
...
That's what I thought you'd say. Good luck!
Kegan smiled. Yes, for the first time, he smiled. He was looking directly at the soul flayer when he did. The fire died then, but unknown to the flayer, it was intentional. As the fire died, Kegan shifted. The plan was to have the flayer think the fire died, bringing him in close. As soon as the shift was complete, a matter of seconds for Kegan, the fire would surround only his body. If the soul flayer had him in a hold, the fire would engulf them both, and Kegan wouldn't let go. If the flayer didn't come at him at the first chance, Kegan would let the fire out completely and charge at the flayer, grabbing at him to hold him. He would smile either way, as soon as the flayer was close enough to see. The last thing spoken before the fire erupted, and hopefully the last words the flayer would here.
"Burn in hell!"

The flayer felt some spiritual disturbance in the air as it circled the lycan, but thought little of it. When a vampire became a soulflayer, their minds were overloaded with psychic energies a few weeks prior to the transformation, as the energy served to weaken a vampires mental and spiritual defenses. This granted them an uncanny sense of what was going on around them, some even being able to read minds. After the transformation this power faded away, but the flayers remained very sensitive to spiritual energies.
But then the flames faded and the flayer charged, almost tasting the sweet flavor of lycan blood again. Starting out with a flying kick for the chest, it knocked the lycan back a few steps and hopefully stunned it. It then moved around the lycan using its own superior speed. It noticed that the lycan was changing into a different shape, but again it thought little of it. Doesn't matter, It thought, latching unto the lycan's back. Once I get hold of the head it'll be oveaaaAAAAAHHHH! The scream came from both mind and body as it felt the white fire searing against the darkness.
Letting go and pushing itself off Kegan, the flayer landed on the forest floor, chest heaving as it instinctively struggled to breath, although it made no difference. It was all coming apart now, the flayer was loosing control. There was no way that it would be able to stay, even if it managed to kill Kegan. But it wanted vengeance, and even now it was only certain that Grey would regain control with several minutes whivh would be far too long. It knew pressure points on werewolves that didn't exist on humans, it knew they're strengths and weaknesses. They were among the teachins of the Croursh clan and the flayer was going to use them to take one finale soul with it. "FUCK YOU" It yelled as it charged again. Peeling back the darkness froom it's fingers, the clawed viciously for the lycans eyes with the bony claws. It was not going down alone

Kegan let the attack hit. It was all he hoped for. The Flayer though it had achieved something, but instead fallen right for Kegan's trap. It fell, and Kegan stood victorious... or so he though. The fire faded completely, and Kegan stood there, calm. So, that is the white fire my mother always spoke of when I was growing up. Did she know this about me? I'll have to ask her when I next talk to her. Right now, I have to... All he heard was the voice of the beast, though the eerie tone was gone.
Kegan looked up in time to have his eyes pierced by the claws of the beast. "AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!" Kegan fell, blinded by the beast. He couldn't heal himself, as the white magic had left him. He would heal in time, as lycan heal faster than human. But, without white magic and soon, he would be blinded. His hands covered his eyes, and he backed away. The beast would have him now. There was nothing more he could do. Tristan could come and fight, but the flayer could become powerful again without the white fire to keep it at bay.
For the first time, the hatred is gone from my heart. Thanks to that vampire and my mother, I found some level of peace. I thought I would only achieve peace with death. It seems, I achieved it just before. He removed his hands form his eyes, and shifted back to his human form. He was on his knees, sitting on the heals of his feet. He was at the mercy of the soul flayer. I can't even bend anymore. Even if I could, I don't have the energy. Tristan, protect the school at all costs. He sat there, awaiting death.

The flayer let out a loud, sadistic luaghter as the bony fingers penetrated the soft tissue, spilling the red and white within. The lycan seemed to give up, there were no last ditch struggle or anything. The hunter would be upon him soon, but not before he had been able to finish of the lycan.
Picking the lycan by its huge throat, the flayer smashed its fist into the werewolf's gut, then brought his head down into the upward moving knee of the flayer, smashing the werewolf's face. "Did you think it was going to be that easy? Did you think wed go after so little?" It sneered, the misty face contorted with rage. It grabbed, spun and psuhed the lycan so that it was now facing away from him "It ends here" It said, bringing the edge of its hand down in a crushing knife-hand blow, shattering the werewolf's neck.
Or rather, it didn't. The flayer felt the shadowy muscles in its arm tighten, but it couldn't move it. Too late it realized what was going on. "Let it go Grey, you have nothing more to do here!" It shouted in frustration. "DAMN YOU!" It screamed in agony and hate, feeling the shadows solidify and the souls being sucked back into the vampires blood. "NOOOOOO!" It cried as the shadows faded, drained into the places from where they had come. Shadow turned to flesh and the red glowing eyes turned back into normal.
Grey sat on his knees, where the flayer had fallen. He was panting, his mind trying to cope with what it had just been put through. He looked down at his hands to confirm that they had indeed turned solid again. Then he looked at the wolf who had saved him, and probably many more. He got up and rushed over to it, feeling odd. "Mate, I... I'm sorry. I should've known" He bit his lip instinctively, his fangs accidently cutting open his lower lip. The darkened blood traveled down his chin and soaked into his shirt but he didn't notice.
"Are you going to be alright?" He asked, feeling awkward. This had to be the weirdest situtaion on the planet. Then he remembered the blood. A vampires blood held more than just different blood types, it was stolen life force in physical form. "Lie still" He said, bringing his fingers to his chin and coating them in the blood. Some vampires knew how to turn this life force into various effects, including healing. Grey was one of those. He was going to heal the lycan's eyes, even thouhg he knew it would take a while for them to become fully operational. Then he would heal his lip and see what followed

Kegan was getting a beating. But, he was in no shape to fight back. Looks like I'll be seeing you soon, mom. he awaited the crushing blow. The final, destructive hit. But, it never came. He couldn't see, but only hear what was going on. He collapsed, laying on his back. As the vampire came over to him, Kegan smiled. "Nice going. After we fought, I knew you could take control. You just needed a little help." Then the vampire went to help him. Kegan used the last bit of energy to grab Grey by the wrists. "No... you're drained like I am. Don't use your energy healing me. Just... get us to the infirmary at the school. They'll help. My eyes'll hold out till then. Lycans don't go down that easy, but you know that."
He released Grey's arm and continued to speak. "We never found out each other's names. Since we basically saved each other, we should probably be on a first name basis. My name is Kegan." He smiled. "And before you ask, yes, I meant what I said. I considered you an enemy, but that was when I held a lot of hatred in my heart. Thanks to this encounter, some of it has left me. Now, I consider you a friend, and hope you view me as the same."
"Now, do me a favor and get me to the white mages back at the school." He passed out then, having used up all his energy. Today, he had saved a life, made a friend, and become a changed man. It was time for a well deserved break.

"Yeah, I guess" Grey answered, knowing that he had just burned off a great deal of energy, and the bloodloss, although not too bad, was not helping. He licked his lower lip, activating the healing properties in his blood by touching it, closing the cut. As a vampire he didn't feel the effects just yet, but he knew that when he did they would be debilitating.
The werewolf passed out before Grey got to say his own name, putting off the conflict that Grey had been placed in. For more than fifty years he had never told anyone his real name, he had always just called hismelf Grey. But maybe now he would again. "Thoughts for another time" He grunted, lifting the heavy lycan up and carrieng him in the direction of the closest portal. He had forgotten everything about the hunter, but he had also had a lot on his mind
A few of those things were his destruction. He forced the thought away, but he knew it had to be done. There was no known cure once one turned into a soulflayer, no way of destroying the curse except death. But maybe, now that he was back in relatively human form, maybe there would be a way, a cure, a salvation. He could only hope

Tristan cut off his chakra and paced. It was the wolf's fight and Tristan had been asked to stay out of it. He was tempted to jump in several times, but restrained himself, reminding himself that after the wolf was done, the dark beast would have the hunter and his black dragon to deal with.
Almost there. Came Igneus' thoughts. The idiot teleported himself to original battle site in his haste and had to fly to the new location. By the time the vampire reverted and the fight was over, Igneus was over head. Tristan dismantled his gauntlet blades with alchemy and lept up to the decending dragon. Igneus landed lightly infront of the vampire, now to be known as Grey. "Get on, Igneus can teleport us directly to the academy." Though he was surprised to hear that they went to the school on the airborne island, things like this were becoming easy to come to terms with.
"Come on, the nearest portal is at least thirty miles from here, if I'm not mistaken." With that he'd wait for the strange vampire to leap onto the dragons back, then give the command to go 'between' an utter cold nothingness. Its' name was taken from a book once read that indicated something similar as Tristan himself hadn't named it.
