The key turned in the lock and a soft clicking sound could be heard as she opened the door with her key. The door swung open and revealed was a nice clean and very orderly room. White duve's on the bed were soft and stuffed with feathers. Two small chairs of white color sat by the window her canary sang in it's white antique cage above the chairs. A small kitchenette to the side.
She moved to the kitchenette and pulled two mugs out of the cupboard a periwinkle color and set them on the counter filling them with water. She placed them in the microwave and turned around to Lucian and motioned to the seats or the bed but had purposefully left the door open. She crossed the room and set her flute down on the desk and then turned to Lucian and smiled.
Another minute passed and the bell on the microwave went off. She moved into the kitchen and took out the cups placing a tea bag of mint tea in each one. She opened another cupboard and took out home made chocolate chip cookies and placed four on a plate. She put all three items on a tray and moved to the set of chairs. She set the tray down on the table between the chairs before returning to the kitchen for spoons.
She came back and sat down placing her notebook and pen out too incase she needed it. She smiled at him and nodded.

He stepped in behind Madelyn, observing her living quarters as she sat down at the table. His eyes roamed over the dorm room as he waited for her to finish preparing tea. Lucian felt a little odd as if he should be helping out, however she did offer so maybe he thought it would be considered rude to try and help her. He heard the microwave ding and the smelled the faint aroma of mint tea. Lucian sighed softly, the aroma of fresh tea always seemed to soothe him. This certainly wasn't the tea his mother had made, she handmade her tea but thenagain Lucian hadn't had tea in quite some time.
He nodded back at her with a faint smile as he picked up his cup regally and sipped it softly. Lucian sighed contentedly as he set the cup back down, even if it wasn't his mother's homemade tea it was still tea and it was still delicious. He picked up one of the cookies and took a small bite before chasing it down with a sip of tea.
"So Madelyn have you been in any of the special sign-up classes here?" he asked, taking another small bite of his cookie. Even the cookies were rather good, Lucian hadn't had them in a little while either. He had to admit running into this girl had to be one of the better things to happen to him so far.

The tea filled the small room with the scent of mint. It was a very relaxing and soothing scent to the young blonde that sat in the small chair across from Lucian. She crossed one pale leg over the other and sipped her tea gently. She heard his question and she smiled.
She leaned forward taking her notepad and setting her tea down. She took a bite of a cookie and set it back down too as she leaned back in her chair. With a click of her pen the canary above her head began to sing happily. Madelyn smiled and looked up at her little yellow bird and then began to write.
-Yes, I was in Der Metzgermeister's class. It was.. frightening. I wouldn't reccomend it.-
She handed it to him softly placing it on the table between them and sipped her tea again. She had left her room open for a reason just incase something happened. She didn't think anything would but she wanted the ability for someone to hear or see if something did. She smiled at him.

He took another long sip of tea with a refreshed sigh. It really was good tea despite the fact it was made in a microwave. Lucian had to hand it to her, she was able to do a lot with a little. He respected that sort of resourcefulness and allowed himself a soft smile as he took another bite of his cookie. Lucian was starting to feel relaxed, he hadn't felt relaxed in some time. Usually he was always plagued by an agitated feeling, mostly due to the fact that his second set of tattoos were impure and he still didn't have the power he wanted. But for some reason now the agitation that was usually always present was gone.
"So Madelyn...you can't talk?" he asked, tenatively. He wasn't sure how the question was going to be received because he didn't want to offend her but his curiosity had to satiated.

And that was the question wasn't it. Could she speak. The answer was yes, physically there was nothing stopping her from speaking. Nothing in her way of making clear sound of putting words together. True when she spoke her sentences were broken because of lack of use.
She took another sip of her tea and set the cup down on the small table once more. She picked up her notepad again and wrote...
-I can speak. I chose not too. For eleven years.-
She handed the notepad to him and picked her tea up once more sipping it as she looked out the window for a moment before looking back at him again.

Lucian sipped at his tea, for some reason he felt guilty for asking that question. As if he had unwittingly stumbled onto a forbidden subject in her life. He was desperately tempted to ask her why she had chosen to take a vow of silence for eleven years. Lucian held his tongue though because he just assumed it would be a touchy subject.
He finished off his cookie, dipping it into his tea and munching on it appreciatively. He took another sip of his tea and found it was a little cold. Without thinking he touched the dragon and fire runes on his right arm, producing a small ball of fire in his hand. He held it under the tea cup to warm the tea. When he felt it was sufficiently warmed he clenched his fist, extinguishing the fire ball.
"So Miss Madelyn would you like me to re-heat your tea?" he offered with a bit of a sheepish grin as he hadn't even realized he was using his magic until he was done. It was rather by instinct now, if there was something he needed magical assistance with and his runes could do the job he just reached for them.

She sat up and watched intrigued as he cast his magic reheating his cup. Her eyes were wide and bright as she watched. How amazing that he could do that. Touch a symbol on his arm and fire. Granted her own magic was unique. Music as her magic was something she had never seen the like of while she was here.
He asked her if she wanted him to reheat her tea and she nodded happily. She couldn't wait to watch it again. It was amazing. If only she had a spell like that. It would be great. She grabbed her note pad and wrote.
-If you would like a song.. I can play for you.-

Lucian grinned as he watched her face light up as he performed his magic. It was indeed a fun thing to see someone so enthralled by his abilities. Not that he was that vain but it made him feel good to inspire awe and wonder in a person like that. He touched the runes again and again another small fireball puffed into existance in his hand. Lucian held the fireball under her cup, re-heating it with a grin as he clenched his fist again, the fireball reduced to nothing but a few whisps of smoke that crept between his fingers.
He nodded appreciatively as she asked him if he would like to hear some music, "Yes that would be very nice thank you," he said, watching her intently as he waited for her to start playing.

She watched again as he warmed up her tea with his magic. She loved it. Watching the ease he could use his magic. She had never seen anyone so easily use it. It was amazing and it only made her yearn to see whatelse he could do.
He said he would like to hear her music and she smiled brightly because now she could show him what she could do. She looked up at him and smiled and nodded happily as she took one last sip of her tea. She rose and moved to her desk picking up her flute case. Sitting back down she opened the case in her lap and put the flute together.
She put it up to her lips and closed her eyes and began to play the sweet melody came out in the room filling it with the soft sounds of the flute.
She played to the day. To meeting new friends and to find happiness. To the beauty of the day to the gentle breeze and the warm sunlight these pictures in her mind and these images would be represented in his.

Lucian let an actual genuine smile spread across his features as she played. Her music was beautiful and he couldn't help but smile. It was almost literally impossible for him to not smile when she played her music. It was beautiful and friendly and sweet. Her song flowed like the musical embodiment of everything nice and wonderful in the world. Beautiful sunsets, meeting a new friend, enjoying time with someone special to you, everything sweet and good in the world was brought to the surface of his thoughts as she played.
He could no longer resist himself, he started clapping gently as he smiled even more brightly, "Beautiful..." he said softly, it was really the only word he could muster. Lucian had never actually been moved to smile as brightly as he was, but her song...it was so soulful and pure.

Her song finished and she let the flute fall away from her lips as she heard him clapping and blushed. She took her flute back apart and placed it in her case before placing it on the floor next to her chair. She had now shared her own magic with him and he deserved it. He had turned out to actually be a good friend and a nice man. She was now happy she had decided to give him a shot.
She picked up her pen and pad and turned the page so she could write him a message. She clicked her pen open.
-Thank you, I'll play for you any time. And thank you for being someone I can trust.-

Lucian smiled again, two times in one day. He could hardly believe it was that easy to make himself. Something about her though, it just made him want to be nice around her. She seemed so smal, frail, and easily hurt. He felt some sort of need to protect her and keep her from being hurt. Lucian shook his head with a faint grin, he never imagined him the chivalrous type but she was certainly changing his mind.
"Thank you for playing for me and don't worry about it, I trust few people enough to be nice around them," he said with a grin, "Believe it or not that tough guy thing is just an act most of the time," he said with a jokingly exaggerated wink as if he had just let her in on the biggest secret in the world.

It was nice to see him smile. She had an innate feeling that he didn't do it often and that was sad. Even she as bad as her past was smiled. Yet, she was a happy girl. Sometimes she wondered what she would have been like if she had not had such a past.. not been beaten near daily so that she never wanted to speak. Would she be like that girl Phae.. the one that was always so happy and huggy.
She could easily see herself that way. Madelyn now that she had found a place where she both belonged and was not constantly afraid had seemed to blossom and become much happier than ever before. She had even spoken to Jonathan. Her first words in eleven years. Still though they didn't speak much to each other and she only spoke to him.
She picked up her note pad once more giggling at his wink. He was definatly a nice man when he didn't worry about making himself the bad guy. She flipped to a new page .. she had so many it didn't matter how fast she used them she constantly got new ones sent to her by her foster family and the social worker she had worked with on Earth.
-You should smile more often. I think that you are very nice but why do you hide it? Why be so mean? You are scary. Smiles make you and others feel good. Like now.. I feel like I get to know the real Lucian. Not the one you let others meet.. no, a different one.-
She handed him the pad with her own exagerated wink and a giggle as she moved back and finished off her cookie.

He should smile more often, that was what she had said. Lucian did not smile that often, mostly because he did not really feel like it. He did not normally approach people in a friendly manner, mostly people did not appeal to him. But here, here in the Arcane Academy there were so many different people of different skills and abilites. It wasn't like his village where most of the others were peons and idiots, the others here were interesting and unique.
"I suppose I hide it because I'm rather proud. I don't let others get to close to me," he admitted bowing his head a little, "You see sometimes I get too proud and then..my anger takes over, and I do stupid things...bad things when I get angry like that," he said, shaking his head a little, "But that's in the past now...besides I think I play the role of the tough guy with a heart of gold quite well don't you think?" he asked with a cheerful chuckle.

It was so interesting the way this man thought of himself. It was good to meet such a interesting person and someone unlike anyone she had met before. She almost couldn't believe that just half an hour ago she had been cowering on the floor hoping he wasn't going to hurt her. And now here she was having made him tea and cookies talking to him.
He was right though. He did play the part rather well. She had definatly been afraid of him earlier.. admittedly it was the tatoos at first that had sparked her fear. But now she was glad she had decided to put some trust into him. She giggled at his comment though because it was not only true but right.
-You do. What kind of hobbies do you have, Lucian? I would like to know you better.-
