*A thunderous sound could be heard coming from the back of the Library in the dark arts section.*
"What do you mean your against corporal punishment? Do you understand just what kind of a school we are running here?"
Engal asked his old friend in a challenging tone after slamming his book on the table in front of him. Engal was sitting across from his old friend Halsephea, debating a common topic around the Arcane Academy as of late.
He sat and waited for Halsephea to explain his point of view.

*My massive form was seated comfortably in a large leather chair, looking across the table at Engal. We were locked in another of our debates, seeing who would triumph. In my right hand was clutched a glass of vodka, and protruding from my mouth was an expensive Cuban cigar. So what? It's my break hour... I can drink and smoke if I want...*
"Well my old friend, I will admit that The Academy isn't your average school, and that those within it are learning to use potentially dangerous magic, but realize that these are children we are dealing with... Children Engal..." I countered.

Engal shook his head as he now looked down at the table... Yet again they had differing points of view. While Halsephea viewed his students as children, Engal saw them as potential dangers if action didn't take place to increase the seriousness of punishments.
"I understand that they are children, but they should be held responsible for their actions. Remember that student 3 years ago that purposely lit a fellow student on fire? He was barely even punished, they simply restricted the time he was allowed to stay out of his dorm! Do you not find this disturbing? Your 'children' are using their abilities against one another and what is worse is that we are teaching them how!"
Engal looked up and leaned back in his chair.

*I hated to admit it, but he had a good point.*
"Well Engal, I will admit, he was under punished. But what you are suggesting is repaying pain with pain, which always comes full circle. Despite the sayings, never fight fire with fire. The answer to troublemakers is clear: expulsion. If I were in charge of dealing out that pyromaniac's punishment, he would have been out of The Academy for life."
*I took a moment to take a drag on my cigar and expel the smoke, directing it away from Engal as not to make him uncomfortable.*
"Tell me this Engal... How would YOU have punished said student?"

A smile crossed Engal's face... too bad he was wearing his helmet so not even his friend could see his expression.
"I would have disciplined the student with force before expulsion. That is the only way to correct such rebellious behavior."
Engal paused for a second as his mind searched the archives of the academy. It did not take long for the book to mysteriously dislodge itself from the shelf and start moving across the great library. Engal just looked at Halsephea until at last he raised his hand, the book gently feel into his grasp. Engal set it down on the table in front of him and began to look for the page.

*I let out a bellowing laugh as I took the final gump of vodka. I set the empty glass down, poured it full again, and stopped laughing.*
"You didn't answer my question Engal. I assumed you'd use force, but I wanted details..." I said grinning. Then, the book arrived at the table. "Looking for outside help Engal? Isn't that cheating?" I said, laughing again.

"Meh, I call it being resourceful." Engal said as he flipped to page 893 of the book titled, Arcane Academy Graduated Classes.
"Here it is."
Engal picked up the large book and showed Halsephea the page. He pointed to the circled picture of a graduate by the name of Martis Lexnin.
"Lets see if memory serves me right, which I know mine does. Martis graduated from the Arcane Academy and grew up to be one of the worlds most infamous MAGE SLAYERS! Now while he attended our beloved academy do you know that he got into fights on a daily basis and even attacked a few teachers on school grounds?" Engal paused to allow Halsephea to absorb the information. "Not once did he have his powers nulled, and he was never subject to pain. Like animals these children only respond to two things, love and pain."

"Ah yes... I remember that ruffian... Well Engal, believe me, that child deserved nullification of powers and expulsion. However, under the circumstance of self-defence, I feel that force can be used."
*I took a sip of vodka.*
"If a student approached me and attempted to instigate a fight, I would do nothing but warn him of what was to come. However, if the child began an open act of aggression, I would leave him unable to walk... You see Engal, self-defence and corporal punishment are different... If a child vandalizes school property, he should not be whipped or beaten or some such thing... He should be given a good talking to and lose some out-of-dorm hours... Your thoughts on that?"
*I said, taking another drag on the cigar, blowing the smoke away from Engal.*

"Bah, he should have been beaten and sent home. You know just as well as I that many things in life are learned through pain."
Engal began to rock himself in his chair while putting his feet on the table, the legs of the chair creaked as it supported him.

"Wow Engal, that's a vert straightforward thing to say.. Sounds like you had a rough childhood." I said, taking a swig of vodka. "Did daddy not give you enough hugs when you were little?"
*Cold... but hopefully effective. Engal had good points, and I had yet to beat him in a debate, but I felt like this was the one...*

OoC: Mind if I join? ^_^
Approaching like a shadow, Azrael Thanatos smoothly walked along the lovely library floor, his fingers tracing themselves over the "Dark Arts" section of the library as his eyes searched for a particular tome...
"Now I know "100 ways to destroy a Human's Will" is bound to be here" the Head of Security said, a dark smile along his face.
It was then that he looked over and noticed the two teachers, Engal and Halsephea, talking in what appeared to be a heated discussion. Among the three of them, they were the prominent "Supernatural" figures in the school.... even if the Academy itself was a school for mages. While most never said it to his face, Azrael here was regarded as a monster.... maybe they were right, or maybe they were wrong...but what is known, however, is is freakish skills....
"Hello gentlemen" the Security head said, his lovely black suit so out of place here "I couldn't help from overhearing your discussion..."

"No I didn't get hugs!" Engal replied swiftly to Halsephea's question.
That was when a new figure entered the scene of the debate, Azrael. Engal had met the head of security many times over the years yet he never found himself calling him friend.
Engal looked over to Halsephea for his response but hastily greeted Azrael before his demon friend could.
"Welcome to the library Azrael." Engal greeted with a nod.

*I began to laugh at Engal's responce, but then, the black donned head of security entered, his long coat flowing behind him. Engal beat me to the welcome, but I did so anyways.*
"Hello Azrael. Engal and I were just discussing our views on corporal punishment. Please, pull up a chair and listen if you want, but I would like to keep the debate one on one... No offence my friend." He said with a head bow of regret.

"No problem my friend" Azrael said, sitting down onto a chair he pulled up. "It really is interesting to see how the Academy runs itself... After all, my job is to ensure your safety and what not..."
The man then lowered his hat a bit, letting it over his purple eyes as a smile formed on his face, and while seemingly innocent, had a cruel and sadistic aura to it.
"Do go on though, I would love to hear of what your thoughts are about this subject... I myself would simply love to put this into effect, but alas Byron has blocked my attempts to do so...."
