I know it's little, but in the elementalism thing, I just wanted to say that lgiht would not be considered an element, and therefore not part of elementalism. For this same reason, neither would shadow magic. Just figured this would be better placement than in the thread itself. Oh, and, this isn't so much a complaint, than it is a tip.

Actually light is a series of protons and electrons that function together to make visable light. So in all actually all light is is particles. Darkness, as we have it here I could see as an element, but light doesn't sem liek that likely an "element" of course everything has it's balance so I say stick with the current set up.

Water isn't an element, it's a compound, but they still have it as an element. Fire isn't an element either, but guess what?
They're not talking about periodic elements, they're talking about fictional role playing fantasy elements. Luminiferous Ether could be the element, even. Why not? I have an undead walking suit of armor...

Darkness isn't an absense of light, it's the other way around.
Anyway, um... I cans ee where your coming from. But, light and darkness are traditionally elements in magic games and such.

I know this isn't really the point, but I'd like to point out, Negi, that light is not made of protons and electrons, but of photons, whose mass is miniscule even in comparison to that of electrons, which are in turn much smaller than protons. and it's not a true particle but exhibits some properties of waves, such as the fact that it is subject to the Dopplar effect.
Not the topic, but I just couldn't let it go. Sorry to be a bother.
And don't change anything, or I'll shoot you with my Potassium-Blast spell!

I would also like to add onto something. Yes, darkness is the absence of light, because light is something, a form of energy, and darkness is virtually nothingness.

Darkness isn't an absense of light, it's the other way around. Anyway, um... I cans ee where your coming from. But, light and darkness are traditionally elements in magic games and such. Darkness is an opinion, actually. Different beings (sometimes even different people) see different shades of darkness at different lighting levels. Darkness isn't just the absence of all light, just thr absence of a sufficient amount of light to what we would call light (or just not dark). Grey screens can be called both light and dark, because when light is not shining on something, it's colors are black, white, and grey (1-3 of these combinations). As soon as light hits it, the atoms that make up that object that give color change to that specific color. It's too fast to see. -=}N{=-

Thank you, I try to stir things up. The reasoning for fantasy is when scientific matters are unknown. However, once you know the scientific properties, you can build a stronger force off of it with fantasy from those subjects assumed to be impossible. Knowing what you know now, light and dark elemental magic can work like a chameleon.

Light is light, dark is dark, absense of either does nogt mean the presence of the other! HAHA! JK with ya'll.
Anyways Negi was partly right, there are Protons in it, as well as Nuetrons, but only when it's light created from a source like oh say, TEH SUN! But that's a totally different story.
To have pure light you would need pure eneergy, and since no such process exists to make pure energy, which could then be converted to pure light, we're stuck with radioactve and or electrified light!
Oh and funny story, and sceintifically proven. When you're looking at light it's a wave, when you look away it's a particle! Explain that one!

Explain? When you're looking away, it doesn't overcome its state of being a wave, it's just also a particle. Regardless of weather you can see it, touch it, taste it, hear it, smell it, or even realize it's there, it will be atleast 1 particle, as long as it exists.
