Racial Bonuses/Weaknesses: Yes or No?

Here's an example:

Vampire Bonuses:
~Nightwalker~
+5 All Stats During Night
+1 Energy Per Post (Cannot exceed currently attained max, so, if they have 11 energy, and they post when they have 11 energy, they cannot exceed 11.)

Weaknesses:
Obvious, but, will edit that in later.

Fur-Based Demi-Humans (Part Animals, like Nekos and the like):
~Strength Of The Wild~
Strengths: +5 Strength

Weaknesses:
-Takes twice as much damage to fire (provided all the fur isn't burned off, already.)

Normals (Everyone Else):
~Flexibility of Man~
+5 Expendable EXP/Stats to the stats of their choice

I'll add more later, and, things can be decided at another time, as well... but, yea... just a thought. If the Designer rejects the idea, I'll drop it altogether, but, yea.. with, more semi-humans, demi-humans, etc.. well, yea.

I disagree with adding the racial bonuses and stuff since it would only mean more indecision in some things and would give more chance for people to try and stack stuff. While it certainly is fun to be able to choose one's race I think half of the fun is writing what the race can do rather then already having premade stats.

It's an intersting concept. However, I share the others nervousness that it may limit some creative leverage that the players have typically had up till now.

If you guys do decide to have it implemented, you could take it a step further and have everyone declare a profession or field of expertise, and allocate more bonuses/ weaknesses for those.

I would suggest balancing this thing out a little if it's to be implemented. For one thing +5 anything is too imbalanced and the vampire's +5 to all stats is near godlike... Maybe +1 or 2 or 3 at max.

Also, if this is to be implemented, the first thing you should think about is what races are you going to put in not what bonuses you should give races.

Furthermore, here's an idea: For people who make their own race (Such as my cursed line), let there be no bonuses/weakness. Just the usual strengths and weakness in the bio and their stats for them to go by.

Feh, it's not like stats mean anything anyway. I could take anyone here even if I set all my stats to 1.


As it stands, however, I don't think the racial bonuses are necessary. What I like most about this site is that, while it IS stat-based, it's the least complicated stat-based system I've seen, which makes it appealing. I hate most stat boards because they try waaay too hard to make things all stat-oriented and such, and you get people spamming for posts and fights trying to get as much XP as possible.

I say nix on the racial stats, a vampire can simply play a vampire, he doesn't need the extra stat points to prove he's undead.

Plus, I only put the ability "nightwalker" up since I thought it was a good idea and showed a bit more the difference between day and night. But I agree with the majority: No need for special race attributes or such.

I think, because I'm like that. But about this subject, I don't think we should add race-specific bonuses, I think that each individual should include whatever special things they wanted in their Bios, and let it be judged by the admins when they (dis)approve their sheets. And people are very likely to have different ideas o fwhat they want for the sme proffession. I'm a tchnomancer, which you would never have guessed by reading my name, but what I mean when I say technomancer may be completely different from what others mean. I believe the same goes for species

Well, to me (and probably a lot of other people), arcane is nice because it gives freedom that youc an't get on a lot of boards. That's the main attraction, really. The fact that you can do anything within the limits of your imagination (and what the admins say), and this would be taken away if we decided on racial bonuses.
