The Arcane Academy is a school created by Master Magic Practitioners to continue the survival and development with their art. Furthermore, the Academy itself acts as a base for Mages, trying to balance out the flow of Magic in the world and keeping things of magical Nature away from humans.
This is due to the Witch Hunts of the early 13th Century, which scared many practitioners of magic. To avoid getting themselves, a large number of Alchemists and Enchanters enchanted some rocks, forming them into the academy itself. Then, with the aid of Geomancers, they lifted the academy and the surrounding area into the sky, which was then held there in place by Aeromancers. Now, to keep this floating in the sky going on, the Mages were able to recover pieces of the True Cross of Jesus Christ, which held a huge amount of energy in it when placed near each other. So then they placed it in the academy's lower levels, to continue the enchantment of the rocks and air around the academy to allow it to float in the sky.
Regardless, the Academy was founded by a Legendary Wizard by the Name of Sivelos The Silver-Handed, who was said to be a very powerful mage of his time and was learned in all fields of magic from Alchemy to Necromancy to Pyromancy to Shaman-ism and beyond. He got his name from a joke about him, for during a alchemy experiment, he accidentally turned his hand into silver, but it did provide to be a good focusing object to cast his spells later on.
As the academy soon became more and more known, it realized that their use of magic was screwing around with the system. Despite the huge benefits the academy gives to the earth with stopping it's entropy and things like that, it was messing up the delicate system the Earth had with magic. As such, the Academy commissioned seasoned students to deal with the ruptures in magic. These ruptures were created by magic itself, and it's influence upon the Earth. After all, the screwing around with magic cause "gaps", which results in Ruptures in space....and that space it occurs in is called Earth. However, ruptures in magic occurred throughout history...but with a valiant mage to step in and stop the chaos. It was said that the very first mage in history was named Adam, and he helped the enough in stopping magical ruptures.
In time the Academy faced new academies which were being developed. Most were small, but a famous Academy was known as the Monastery. It was in the oriental east, and there it taught eastern branches of Magic. Eventually, Oriental Magic came to the Academy to keep up with the Monastery, but the East Side still had it's supremacy in it's eastern arts.
During 1945, there was a huge fire which burned down most of the Academy. It was realized that due to inadequate fire protection and things like that that a fire could be stopped from spreading. Soon the Staff realized that they needed to keep up with the times, and adopted structural designs by the rest of the human world. Soon enough it became just as advance as any other school in the world, maybe more due to enchantments placed in the school.
Furthermore, the Academy itself allows for weapons on it's ground. Although weapons may not be used on other students, they may test each other out on the training grounds and such. The only reason the academy allows weapons is to keep students strong so that it can correct Magical Ruptures (Which involve a number of monsters) and such.
The Academy itself had developed a ranking system to rank the students. They are from lowest to highest:
Apprentice
Spell Caster
Mage
Sorcerer
Wizard
Arch Mage
Master
Headmaster (There can only be one)
The Academy itself is roughly the size of New York City. This is due to the fact that most Graduates from the academy choose to live on it, not to mention the mages and wizards that choose to not go to the academy itself decided to stay on the floating isle. This is probably due to the fact that it is the first of it's kind...the first place where Magic is Openly practiced and trained without the fear of human detection. Good thing the creators of this place saw this coming, and made sure to get a good size amount of land to hold the academy. In fact, the creators used a isle in the pacific to hold the academy, to allow a city to burst up and such.
New History:
The Beast Revolutions: In a beginning revolution by the beast, powered suddenly by chaotic magics and funds, the Beast launched a massive-scale assault, beginning in the Sahara, but, was promptly put down by the combined efforts of Arcane Academy, D-13, and several other factions. It was not long before a second assault was launched, far more desperate and wild, calling forth for all the factions to stamp out the Beast, once and for all. The following results of the twice-defeated Beast would result in a schism of feelings, and ultimately, a formation of two factions, both with their own ideals, but both yet to be seen.
Foreboding Skies In The North: Dark figures have been spotted, suspected of perhaps being behind the Beast Revolutions, but no one yets knows them, nor can they identify them. Undead have wiped out a D-13 base in the north, and only recently has Arcane Academy and the D-13 been able to establish a portal, to bring in reinforcements, as new villans arise, and bullets and spells are about to be joined! *IS STILL IN PROGRESS!*
