There are many terms in the magical world in which a guide is needed to explain them. A Current list of them is:
Communicators: These are standard communicators that have recently been issued to every student and staff member of the Academy. The original purpose behind these devices was communication between members during missions, but quickly became a general communication device for Academy mages. They generally are nothing more than cell phones, magically connected to a communications room within the island, and come in any number of varieties for sale in the city. The standard model looks like nothing more than a business model Nextel with the chirp function, but students can purchase different models as their preference sees fit.
Magical Ruptures: These are ruptures in which magic has devolved into chaotic energy, which are harmful to humans yet helpful to monsters. That is why so many monsters appear when a rupture appears. Also, from these Ruptures demons can escape out of their otherworldly dimension and enter earth, to cause havoc and such. The only known way to close Ruptures is to focus energy into the Rupture at a close distance to repair the Rupture. Also, Ruptures only occur do to the use of magic by humans. When humans use magic, they are breaking a delicate balance or ratio the Earth has. So that's why the Ruptures require energy to repair itself, to fix that Ratio.
Mana/Chi: It is the energy which exists in all life. It allows for the casting of spells and can be used in many, many ways. Despite the fact that this energy exists in all life, only smart creatures can harness this power, as they have the brain to do so.
The Arcane Academy: Found in the early 1800s by Sivelos the Silver Handed, it is the leading organization to educating mages and correcting Magical Ruptures, as well as keeping balance.
Arctic Base and Portals:
Since the Academy is airborne, it is really really hard to get there unless you can fly or are a teleporter. However though, a solution has been created. By using the Arctic Ruins the Academy Discovered, they linked it to portals the Academy created all over the world so that when you enter one of them, you enter the Arctic's base Portal Port. From there you can take another portal leading to the Academy's main entrance way.
Off Academy Students:
For those who wish to stay in the Earth have to pass a rigorous exam in which they prove that the student can control their magic, can deal with magical threats, and are trusted to not reveal the secret, they are allowed back onto Earth for stay as oppose to vacation and missions, as it formally goes. Once on Earth, they have to fend for themselves without any financial aid from the Academy. Furthermore, they must act as Tracers as well, routing out potential problems.
Cursed Lines: For those that have been cursed, it is most likely that the cursed will lift once you die, and isn't generic. However, for certain cases, Cursed Lines may be genetic, and transfer over to the victims off springs. Usually, such curses aren't really curses, but rather a special power limited to that family. Albeit, that power is probably imitated in a spell, but the curse would be too unique to copy effectively. However, as being a curse, usually the power given also harms the victim in a certain way, giving both and restricting the victims power. The number of Cursed Lines are small, and all information regarding these lines are stored in the library of the Academy.
The City of Babylos: The City which surrounds the academy. It is being protected by The Security, which acts as the Military Police for the city and academy. It was said that the City of Babylos was founded by another mage, Chall The Ice Mistress, to allow for a living space for mages to live in aside from living in the regular world. The name derives from Babylon, the city of magic and lust. However, since this city is purely magic, they changed the name to Babylos, to cite the difference in the two cities.
Recently, mages have theorized that Babylos was built upon the stones of Babylon... But it is only a theory....
The Security: Composed of Arch-Mage and Master Ranking Mages, The Security guards and protects the academy, but soon protected the isle itself. Much like the Staff, they are different though. While the Staff deals with the academy building and the students, the Security deals with the Entire Floating City. Think of them as a Military-Police.
The Staff: The Staff is a group which is like The Security, but still different. The Staff only allows for Arch Mage and Master Ranked spell casters to enter it's group. The Staff's main concern is to protect the Students of the school and the school itself, much like the security. However, The Staff are the ones who organize response forces to deal with Ruptures and monster attacks.
The Tracers: Serving as the third group within the Academy, the Tracers have two jobs. First, their job is to scout across the world and find magical interferences from renegade mages, criminals, monsters, etc to keep the Arcane Academy secret. Their other job is to erase the existence of those they discovered, making sure no one knew they ever existed and whatever the renegades did. However though, don't think of the Tracers as the Agents of the Academy, for the Agents are the Students. Instead, all these guys do is just keep the Academy a secret; Think of them as the Academy's spies and clean up crew combined.
The Teleporters: A sub branch of The Tracers, Teleporters are specialized Tracers who deal solely with the transportation of students, soldiers, tracers, etc. They are skilled with vehicles, and have been trained to drive every single mode of transportation known to man. Also, they are skilled with actually teleporting people, and when working together in large groups, can transport a person from the U.S to Japan. While obsolete thanks to the intricate portal system set up, Teleporters are still valuable as soldiers for their ability to transport people rapidly and efficiently.
Organizations:
Eternity: Down on Earth, there was a powerful Master-Rank mage by the name of Sirius, who became obsessed with power and immortality. So, to make himself get more power from outside of the school rather then just following around the headmaster, he created a religion in his own image.....reffering to himself as The Savior. Soon he taught his followers magic, and began to spread his power all over the earth. Although mainly located in France and Germany, Eternity has operatives and followers everywhere. In time, Sirius became mad with power, and began to grow steadily insane, and became a sociopath. And, to continue living on to gather more power, he would transplant his soul inside another host.....allowing him to continue to live on forever. The only draw back is that a piece of his personality is left behind in his old body.... For a while the Academy and Eternity had tensions mounting between them, which erupted during the Secret World War. Currently, there is a very loose truce between the two.
Motto: Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici
The Order:
The Order is a old order of knights from the middle ages which have pledged to fight against the use of magic. They were the ones during the which hunts that were known as Inquisitors, and took orders from the Catholic Church as a pre-lure. But, despite their stance against no magic, they use magic themselves...calming that what they are doing is holy and justified. Their current head is unknown, and they remain in cold war with the Academy.

D-13
D-13 is a US organization which deals with magic and the supernatural. Created during World War II, it was to researched and determine to use magic for military purposes, much like Germany. Their first use of magic and the organizations founding dates back to 1945, in which their research and developments were titled The Jersey Project, for they were originally founded in New Jersey. Today, they exist in Area-51, using aliens as a stage for their true purpose...the research and studying of magic. Currently, D-13 knows the existence of the Academy....but prefers to not get involved with them to stays on friendly terms with them...to avoid a conflict. The Head of D-13 is Director Lancaster.
Motto: Knowledge is the Power of Man
The Monastery: A Group which existed long before the Academy did, their main focus is like that of the Academy, to teach and train students in the ways of magic. Their main focus though lies in inherent oriental arts, like card magic and chi/Qi. Soon after The Academy was made, The Monastery extended a hand of peace to the school... However, this did not stop them from becoming rivals in the fields of magic. During the Secret World War, the Monastery and Academy formed a impressive alliance, able to stop the huge rupture and seal it. In many ways, The Monastery is the Oriental version of the Academy. Their Current head is Lee Young.
Motto: Power stems from the Unity of the Mind, Spirit and Body
Beast: This group is primarily composed of monsters....lead, of course, by intelligent ones. This group's existence is to solely destroy mankind and make monsters and magic the top of the food chain. However, during the secret world war, it was destroyed by the Academy. It now exists only as a shell of it's once former glory, with no central leadership figure and no one main stronghold to plan operations.
Motto: Look across the Horizon cubs, for our Dawn is Coming!
Blood Society: The Blood Society once started off as a large branch of beast, incorporating mainly vampires, ghouls, werewolves and other humanoid monsters. However, the Society rebelled against the remnants of Beast shortly after the Secret World War; it is said that the reason why Beast is such bad shape now is because of the Blood Society's decisive victory over Beast. Anyways, the Society and Academy had recently signed a treaty, creating a triple alliance of The Blood Society, Monastery and Academy. Anyways, it is currently being led by three very powerful vampires; Alucard, Millarca and Tonufares, and are waging a war against the remnants of Beast.
Motto: The Night Beckons
The Rosicrucian Alliance: Founded in the 17th century by the Rosicrucians, the alliance acted as a common governing body between the various Rosicrucian cabals. It was in time that many other England/French based groups and societies were inducted into the Alliance, such as the Order of the Golden Dawn, The Order of Hermes, and many other secret socieities. The Alliance rarely acts outside of it's power spheres, and instead focus on the seeking of occult knowledge. For the most part, the Alliance and the Academy are on good terms, but is not apart of the Arcane Alliance the Academy set up after the Secret World War. Currently, the head is known... And goes by the name Aleister Crowley.
Motto: May the Roses bloom upon your Cross
The Hashshashin: Also known by their more common moniker of The Assassins, they are a group formed originally to kill Sunni leaders, but soon grew to become actively involved in the Crusades. When the Knight Templars came, wielding their strange magicks the Assassins were the first to react by learning the powers these invaders used. Combing this small understanding of magic with their training, the Assassins soon used these new founded powers to kill these Magical Knights on and off the battlefield. While it is said that when the Mongols came into the Middle East they destroyed the Assassins, it was merely rh mundane branch of the group. For the next hundred of years the Assassins moved throughout the Middle East, from Pakistan to Turkey to Egypt, hunting down those who use magic. They do not claim the land they watch over, but merely say that they are keeping it pure from the touch of the Devil. Frequently the Assassins and the Order battle one another, due to the proximity and religious difference between the two. Other than that, the Assassins don't do anything else than just make sure the middle wast is as magic free as they can try to make it, even if the Hashshashins use magic themselves.

Events:
The Secret World War: In 1984, there was a huge war between all magical factions that existed in Earth. The reasons for it was that a Rupture appeared that was so huge it surpassed the nearly unlimited power of the True Cross which powered the academy. Oddly though, this Rupture was different.....as no demons erupted from it and the energy it sent into Earth was equivalent to that of regular mana mages used everyday. So, sensing that control of the Rupture would result in control of the world, practically all factions went into war mode. Among these factions were The Academy, The Monastery (Which formed a alliance with the Academy despite years of rivalry), Eternity, The Assassins, Beast, The Rosicrucian Alliance, The Order and D-13. In the end, The Academy with the Monastery was able to seal off the Rupture....ending the war.
The Blood Civil War. Shortly after The Secret World War, the vampire/humanoid branch of Beast broke off from the remnants of it, sparking a fierce war centered around the Blood Society castles. The fighting was fierce, and it seemed the forces were evenly matched. However, in the end the Blood Society utterly crushed Beast, destroying it into what it is today as it reigns out of the ashes of their former master organization. With that, the Alliance of Monastery and Academy moved in to stabilize the Society so that i can adjust to it's new position of power and not turn down the dark road that was Beast. The Society greatly accepted this, and soon a few years later The Society signed a treaty with the Academy creating a formidable Triplicate Alliance.
