Jonathan Winter’s personality is his own best kept secret… if you truly wish to find out, you must talk to him to unlock specific details in his profile.
1. 20/20 Vision: A sniper, he’s definitely glad he has this.
2. “Actions Speak Louder then Words”: You don’t say things to get something done. You get to work. Also, if he is trying to say something, he will more often then not do something that has a subtleness to it implying something more… but often, it is so subtle, the message will be lost.
3. Admirer: Along with being an observer, he also is one who actually admires beauty and nature. Outdoors is where he can be found, mostly, appreciating the birds, the breeze… everything. He doesn’t show it, not normally, anyways, even when he’s alone, but, he does have an eye for such things. This may go so far as to even admiring women from a distance, but he will often keep a silent tongue on such things, regardless.
4. Blank-Faced: Anytime you notice him, and he’s looking back, you may think he’s staring at you. This is not the case, as, after years of service, he just can’t really smile anymore, or show most emotions. However... there have been rumors in the ranks that he can be seen smiling to himself over something, or perhaps that... well, that’s classified.
5. Calm: Without calm, there cannot be focus. Without calm, people panic and mistakes happen; People die when mistakes happen. Thus, the constant calm, or the ‘emotionless’ appearance of Jonathan can be unnerving to some, as people can die before him, but he’ll keep marching through to get to his destination, accomplish his mission, or finish his goal.
6. Capable Leader: It is said that Jonathan is a rather capable leader.. probably true in the military, D-13 in particular, but, how can that be in a are where verbal socializing is the prime way of communicating? Without communicating it will be a difficult push to be a possible squad leader here. This doesn’t really matter, though, as he’s fine working by himself, or under someone. A lot more simple, actually.
7. Careful: The wording here is, “Better safe then sorry.” He isn’t so crazy about safety in things… but, after seeing a few good men die to land mines and other traps that were so easy to fall into… its done something to teach him how not to die.
8. Clean Habits: Again, the military has taken its job and done it well. He knows how to fold his sheets, how to clean his bed, clean up after him, scrub the floors, and dust the windows. Self-sufficient in his own way.
9. Conditioned: He’s been through terrible things, sleeping in the rain, having to hunt with only a bullet, a pistol, and a knife, and anything else that those in the D-13 have conditioned him for surviving.
10. Conservative: One shot left in a clip.. Switch it out for a fresh clip, or use it? Disliking waste, Jonathan’s the one who hates waste. Too much food? Leftovers for the next few days, not throw it away.
11. Emotionless: On the outside, he appears completely emotionless, devoid of feeling, devoid of anything... this is enhanced by his ‘Blank-Faced’ appearance.
12. Empathetic: Some men in the army have gone crazy due to the pressure. Jonathan hasn’t seen everything, but, he’s seen enough. People don’t do things for no reason. Killing sprees for sadistic people? They enjoy it; their mind process is that way. Cure? No, but you can feel sorry for them for having damned themselves. If someone is crying, and breaking things, something set them off. Understanding and pity is something that Jonathan can understand, something he can feel, even if he doesn’t show it.
13. Enjoys Silence: It is actually possible that, should you play loud rock music, or anything needlessly loud (in his opinion), that you can deter Jonathan away. He can bear it, as, the loudness of a sniper’s gunshot is loud in itself, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t avoid it when possible. A sniper needs the silence to notice small bits of talking, to identify when a target is possibly nearby. But for a personal reason, he enjoys the silence because he is able to appreciate things in the quiet a lot more, whereas the noise is often distracting, and disturbs his focus.
14. Experiment: His dad, with a previous active Nazi past has experimented on Jonathan in the labs of D-13. It is a reason as to why he is able to use some of his abilities, how he is stronger, but has a low endurance, and other things. Surprisingly… Jonathan has no bitter resentment for this, or else shows none. He normally speaks nothing about this, even despite the pain that he went through in some… particular parts of some of the experiments, and how the experiments went on for four-years on end, non-stop, being fed through a feeding tube, breathing in a special type of water called O2+, which is a liquid oxygen. No comments, ever does he really make on how they collected samples on his blood, his wastes, nothing… never struggled against it, never said anything, never complained. A part of his life he is fully aware about, as it was rare that sedatives were ever used in the augmentative operations on his body, so that he could get used to pain in great magnitudes. Thus far, it’s seemed to have worked.
15. Family History: His Grandfather was an officer under Hitler, and served with Gusto. His father in turn, is actually still a bit of a pro-Neo Nazi, but holds onto old traditions. There is nationalistic pride that is held by his father, in the “Motherland”, but this actually does not affect Jonathan. He’s a soldier for the U.S., for D-13, and now, a student for Arcane Academy. Family history is important to learn the strengths to maintain and the weaknesses and mistakes to avoid. It is here, in Arcane Academy, that he is making his own story, something that, he hopes to pass onto his own children, and start a new revelation in his tainted family.
16.Focused: If Jonathan is determined to do something, he’ll do it, and put a hundred percent of his effort into it.
17. Forgiving: Many have done him wrong, have taken advantage of him. Yet, despite his stature, his strength, he is one who does not harbor ill thoughts. He forgives those who he fights against. Besides, if they will fight alongside him, or at least for the same cause, why is there need for needless strife?
18. Gentle: He did not earn the nickname, ‘Silent Giant’ for nothing. Some have even gone so far as to call him the BFG, for the fact that he is often seen hulling around some “Big freaking Guns”. It’s not so much that he’s a giant, as this is actually not the case for him. It just fits to go along with the fact that he has shown a gentle subtly that is even more pronounced as a sniper. He caresses things with care, he walks quietly, so as not to disturb any conversations or naps, he holds his gun carefully, to make sure he makes the perfect shot… and if he were ever to have someone he should ever truly openly admire… so too would this attribute play a part there.
19. Gentlemen: Opening the door for everyone else, bowing and saluting, he’s a soldier, he’s a gentlemen. Make a good impression, you say good things about your organization, your country.
20. “God Fearing Man”: A Christian. A true Christian. The Ten Commandments in particular play a huge role on him. “Thou shalt not kill” in particular, for a sniper is something that he strangely takes to himself with gusto. Trained to kill, if he can help it, he will incapacitate instead. Besides, there are far more uses to having a live captive then a dead enemy. Christianity is also part of the reason why he is, sometimes ‘submissive’, why he doesn’t complain. It’s a core reason of why he’s held onto his sanity, in his life in silence.
21. Good Manners: If you don’t have good manners, you get your ass kicked, and have to do a hundred push-ups. Again, the military shines.
22. Hard Worker: There is a rule of how hard this man will work, just to make sure everything is working. To work means that he will take on the burden for those who normally would, work him out, if it’s a particularly taxing job, and make sure the structural integrity of whatever he’s working on is maintained intact. Why does he do it? Simple. Hard work is a virtue of his, one that he may very well revel in. The more perfectly maintained something is, the larger the chance that it will be effective in its times of need.
23. Honorable: A man’s last request: tell their wife that poor soldier loved her with all his heart? The moment the battle is over, a phone call rings. The wife answers it, and breaks down in tears… not the happiest thing to do, but, even then… the same courtesy is shown, even to enemy soldiers. Everyone fights for their reasons, sometimes not willingly, but they do so. A sniper does things to take advantage of situations… but can a man not take pity on those they have felled?
24. Intelligent: With hard work, there is intelligence. He is able to understand most things, but that doesn’t mean he may understand the reason behind them, but, as part of his training, “You follow orders, not question them”, so rarely is it an issue. However, that does not mean that he does not hope to learn some spells from Arcane Academy’s school. However, due to his more submissive nature, he will not actively seek out spells, unless for a specific reason, unless he is taught one himself.
25. Journal Writer: Sometimes, Jonathan will record what he’s learned in his journal. He does this, so as to put down what he’s observed or learned from the day’s experience.
26. Kind: Any man in the army knows that if one of your teammates begins to falter, you have to be there to push him up. Random acts of kindness, or at least showing that they’re part of the team. What really gives him, in particular, is the sincerity that he puts in it. Sincerity in kindness, as a teammate is something you learn, something he’s learned from his teammates, something that he honors, though many of them have died in service.
27. Loyal: Loyalty is Jonathon’s bread and butter. He eats it everyday; a huge part of his life surrounding around unquestioning loyalty to his superiors. Even more so to his teammates and perhaps any ‘friends’ he may manage to make in Arcane Academy. He doesn’t question why, he doesn’t question it at all, that’s not what he was trained for. Loyalty is amongst the higher-ups of the hierarchy of things that he values, and although silence has all but taken him, he holds onto it yet.
28. Mature: Sixteen years old. He won’t freak out if he sees another man’s package, nor will he double-look at a woman exposing herself for the world to see. Taking things in stride, he finds that its often easier to say nothing. If he acts idiotically, he’ll look at what he’s done, analyze it, and make note of why he did that. So too will he look at someone’s, perhaps, foolish actions. There is reason behind everything. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to laugh or enjoy himself. It’s just… rare to make him so amused as to laugh.
29. Medication: The medication that Jonathan is on kills his teenage emotions. This is mostly to help him focus, and dwarfs many of his emotional hormones. It is… rare to see him without his daily dosage, and what he’s really like, but then, even without it, he is very used to the quiet life-style.
30. Observant: Sometimes, Jonathan can be seen, observing from a far distance his peers or other people. He may not always talk to someone up front, but, he is more than willing to learn about other people, and other things. Observing as a sniper is one of his greatest attributes, and has saved his life more then once.
31. Optimistic: Even in the worst of situations… if some good can come of it, even if only a learning experience… then at least, you have benefited. A core part of Jonathan’s personality that allows him to remain sane under pressure and stress.
32. Patient: Infinity patience. To make that all-defying shot, to make the shot that could change the war. So too must patience be taken when dealing with other people. If trying to teach a cadet something fairly complex, it may take a few tries, it may take a few dozen tries. But with patience, most things can be accomplished.
33. Piano Player: Every man in the military has something to keep a normalcy, to keep them sane. Some men ritually shave on the battlefield, others collect things like an arm’s worth of watches from fallen foes, and some just enjoy killing people. For Jonathan, his fingers are perfect for the piano, something he found out from one of his squad mates. Being taught a song, he grew more and more into it, and sometimes can be found playing just for his own enjoyment. It may not always be perfect, as he often has to teach himself, and was hastily taught the basics, but its something that he truly enjoys. Rhythmic melodies, the continuation of spells of songs, the tunes that intertwine… this is true magic in Jonathan’s eyes.
34. Poet: Sometimes… he will write something, trying to describe how he feels for it. This is a rare occurrence, and it is rare that it will be even half-decent, but, its something he doesn’t mind doing in his own free time.
35. Protective: If your superior goes down, chances are your squad and army will go down. Better if you go down, and order is maintained then watch them die and your army falter and receive a crushing defeat due to disorganization. Additionally… he is more then willing to take a risk in the place of a teammate. It’s what squad mates do. No one likes to see their comrades go down in a bloody mess.
36. Reluctant Killer: Surprisingly, he isn’t crazy about killing people. Even as part of his job, its something that he holds in high disdain. However, he puts aside these thoughts when he goes through with a job. There’s no time for hesitation… hesitation kills.
37. Respectful: Never showing disrespect to your superiors is a sign of good loyalty and respect. Showing respect for your comrades is a sign of fellowship. If a man wishes to remain behind to mourn the loss of his brother on the battlefield, he’ll understand, and may even stay behind, until the man rouses himself.
38. Romantic: There is a side to him that he is fully aware of, something that he will never actively hint at… but there is a side to him that is definitely human. One of his deepest secrets, actually.
39. Scholar: He’s read up some history on Arcane Academy, on the spells used, although he doesn’t know of any in particular that he’d be willing to use, unless it was taught to him. That won’t stop him from occasionally looking through and learning things for the sake of learning them. There’s enrichment to be found in knowledge.
40. Self-Aware: He is, however, a teenager, and nothing will change that until his hormones stop flowing through him. There is a sense that he wants to look good, wants to make himself presentable, habits that the military has taught him to do well. But he is also concerned that he doesn’t give off the impression that he’s a cold not a very nice person or something… so, he may try communicating with someone on the occasion, if he isn’t taken to silence.
41. Silent: There is a… almost permanent silence that surrounds Jonathan. There are reasons as to why he is quiet, but it’s mostly those in the D-13 and the military who know about. Because of it, he’s been found to be great for harboring secrets and relaying them to their proper correspondents on command. There is trustworthiness to be found in the silent. But then, the quote has always been, “Watch out for the quiet ones.”
42. Simplistic: Okay, you want the huge washing machine with all the strange electrical devices that will confuse you for four weeks, leaving you with four-weeks of terribly smelling clothes? Or do you just want to wash your clothes by hand and soap, and get the job done in one day, and save yourself some money? Jonathan vies for the latter.
43. Sincere: Everything that this man does shows something more to it… what he is, what his true nature is.
44. Snow: Sometimes… his mind will drift to the ‘snow’. A place where he finds true peace, away from the world. A core factor that has helped keep Jonathan’s sanity intact in some instances.
45. Soft Stepper: As mentioned, he is quiet, he is gentle. A sniper who walks slowly, who takes his time to appreciate things, but more importantly to observe things, and make sure he himself is unobservable. Often, as part of habit, except when he’s marching, he will walk with his heels first, gently pressing against the ground, slowly bringing his toes down in one slow slide of the arch of his foot.
46. Solitaire: “Lone Wolf” is also an accurate title. Its not so much however that he seeks to be alone, but as a sniper, he often finds that having a third-person point of view is one of the more useful things in life, and a lot can be learned from observing what’s going on. There may also be some other reasons… but, if there is, then, he has naught to say.
47. Soldier: A soldier. That means he knows orders, he knows how to follow orders, how to follow through with orders, how to issue or relay them to his comrades or squad, and he knows how to get the job done. Versatility on the fields of war is of course, a must, with the ever-changing environments one is often faced with.
48. Stutter: This is the truth behind his permanent silence. He was born, speaking in stutters, always struggling on syllables. For some reason, the usage of wordology is not affected by his stuttering, as are some other quotes that he mentions to himself… but in general, when he speaks, he stutters. With this personal embarrassment of himself, he often uses hand gestures, and has found that in the army, he works perfectly there, as all he needs to do is either follow the silent orders or to issue or relay orders. But in Arcane Academy… well…
50. Teammate: You want someone to cover back, he’ll do it. Need a water bottle? Why would he hoard it, when he’s not thirsty?
51. Truth: He cannot lie. He can soften his words, but for the most part, he cannot lie. Its not innate, he has a hard time doing so.
