Name: Madelyn Moore
Occupation: Apprentice Song Mage
Nationality: American; Kansas
Height: 5'6
Weight: 108lbs
Age: 16
Hair Color: platinum blonde
Eye Color: violet blue
Appearance:
Personality: Madelyn is a silent girl only when singing does she ever make a sound. Her instruments and music are her only expressions. She carries nothing but sorrow and pain in her every feature it is her eyes that carry all her emotions her eyes that convey her feelings.
History:
A silent night and all is dark in the large house in northern Kansas. The windows in the small girls room, her blonde hair splayed out around her as the five year old slept in a bed much to big for her small thin body, was open and a gentle breeze blew the soft white curtains to and fro.
A shot rang out followed by a piercing scream and the three year old's eyes shot open as she sat up in bed looking around. Another shot and the screaming died. The girl stayed still in her room listening silently not saying a word.
Noises down the hall the girls eyes even wider she quickly looked around for an escape route. Something.. anything. The balcony. The girl ran fast out of her room and to the balcony. She had a habit of watching the stars at night from the roof and it was easy for her to get there. Using a step stool the girl hurridly climbed up onto the lattice work and her small feet easily fit into the small holes.
Noises again comeing closer to the door as she began to climb her heart racing in her chest as she climbed higher and higher knowing something had happened but very unsure as to what. But she knew deep down that something was wrong. Her mother was no longer screaming and after those two loud noises she knew that one or the other would be up and checking on her as they always did. The odd silence was not comforting at all. Her eyes blurred as she made it to the roof and climbed up leaning against the chimeny hiding herself from view.
"Where'd the girl go?" she heard a males voice ask below her. Fear struck in the young girls heart as she breathed and didn't move she stayed as silent as she could.
"Hell if I know maybe she ain't sleepin' here tonight." another voice said.
"Just get the crap make it look like a burglary and we're out the girl can.. live damnit." the first voice said.
The next two hours the girl huddled on the roof until a black car drove away with many of her family's possessions in it. With a trembling lower lip she began to climb back down into the house and tiptoeing hoping no one was there she moved into her mother and father's room.
"Mommy?" she asked in her small gentle voice shaking. Her eyes widened as she saw the scene played out for her and she screamed.
The police came the neighbors had called reporting shots and now they were here the little girl said nothing tears rolling down her cheeks as she watched the coroners van drive away with her parents a woman from social services came and let her away to another van and clutching her little stuffed bunny.
Such was the beginning of a mute world for the young girl whose name was later found to be Madelyn. She was a quiet girl refusing to speak no matter what they tried. Pain, talking, hugs, and gifts. It didn't matter no word was utter from the girl.
It was her Uncle that picked her up that day. Her uncle that took her to his small country home to live because he was really the only relative she had left. A week only a short week after the brutal merciless murder of her parents she was taken away from the social services home and sent to Uncle Barn's. He didn't like the silent girl never understanding what she wanted or why she didn't speak.
He took to trying to beat it out of the girl. Using his fists and feet he would hit and kick her black and blue before realizing she wouldn’t speak that day and let her heal. Her body normally bruised and slightly underfed she did not attend school but her uncle wasn’t stupid so he taught her home schooled and her. She learned many things on her own after she learned to read better from her uncle and soon he would just by the books and she was on her own to educate herself.
It was one night thunder roared over head and the young girl about the age of twelve now the blonde girl, still never speaking a word only using writing when it was absolutely necessary to communicate, lay underneath her window watching the rain slide down the window. Her uncle was drunk as per normal in the next room she could hear him yelling at the tv as he always did when he was as such. She heard him slam down his fist and begin screaming for Madelyn. He always called her Lyn saying that her full name was too good for a girl so worthless but she came to whatever he called her she came running knowing it was bad to ignore him. She ran into the living room waiting for his order but only the fist came and because she was already bruised from the pervious night she didn’t take the beating too well. In fact after ten minutes, ten long agonizing minutes she passed out unconscious and bleeding on the floor. Her Uncle tried to bring her back to consciousness but with no luck and so fearing that he had done irreparable damage he called the ambulance claiming she had been in the barn and that an animal had gone crazed and the girl had gotten in the way.
The doctors defiantly knew that it wasn’t an animal that had caused these bruises and so she was taken to a foster home as it was deemed that a orphanage would only make her retreat further into herself even more than she was. They found that the girl had the ability to speak but wouldn’t and it was by the psychologists that sent her to a loving foster home. Here in a real school that she found her love for music. She was still constantly afraid of touch especially from males and adult males was even worse. She made no friends quickly dubbed the ‘weird girl’ but she didn’t mind at least so far she had not been beaten again.
In her very first music class silent as always the girl found her heart seemed to cry her soul seemed to actually move from so long of stillness when the music played. She brought all the books the teacher could send home with her and she studied hard how to read and understand the notes on the page. Her aptitude for music was astonishing and in a week she could sight read any pages of music put in front of her and it was the first time she yearned to make a sound and began to hum the music. Her voice soft and melodic as she hummed but as of yet had not spoken yet. She felt different when she hummed as if all the energy in the world was humming through her body. Some notes had more effect that others.
When her teacher saw her love for music and the first smile the girl had ever given since her parents death seven years before he quickly showed her the different instruments to see if she would be interested. She saw the flute and instantly there was a connection. She chose it silently and her lessons began the teacher willing to stay after school to give her free lessons. Though he was a male she warmed up to him but he was careful not to touch her because the moment he did she fell back into herself and it took weeks of hard work to bring her back out.
At home practicing she would compose her own music letting it flow from her heart and writing it down. But she noticed that strange things would happen when she played her flute to things around her mostly something she was looking at or the room she was in. Several of her songs it seemed were magical in of themselves. Amazed the silent girl began to figure out which song had what effect and she felt words coming into her mouth that had never been there before. Words to the song the ones that had the magical abilities and she began to write the lyrics down.
It was these lyrics and these songs that kept her happy she practiced daily she felt the only time she could truly express herself was when she played her music and one day after three long years of practicing the music only she finally decided to see what effect the lyrics had. She went out into a clearing out in a forest when she was home alone and she opened her mouth for the first time since five years old and she sang the lyrics. This had the very same effect only stronger more profound in a way than only playing the music from her flute.
But she was a silent girl and speaking or even singing was something she was unaccustomed to and resorted back to playing the flute unless she needed the spells to be stronger which was not that often. It was her voice that got wind in the Arcane Academy and it was then they sent came to see her and watched her abilities and chose the girl on the spot to attend the prestigious academy. She graciously accepted and was sent up quickly her foster family sad to see her go but happy at the same time of her accomplishments knowing that she would finally find a place she belonged. But for Madelyn she wasn’t sure she just knew she wanted to make the best of her opportunity and see if her magic would become more profound.
Style
Song Mage: Her mana and energy lay dormant until she is playing or singing her music. It only becomes active then and only during certain songs. It will not become active when someone else plays or if she hears a song recorded like on the radio or a cd. It is her music and her music alone that allows her magic to flow out and cast it’s spell on the selected target. She does not have to see the individual to cast the spells she only has to make sure they are in hearing range. For if they are deaf and cannot hear her spells are void. If you are hard of hearing her spells have a minimal effect but still effect the person in a way only not as strong as the ones that can really hear her music. A glow will surround the girl as the spell takes place her lips touching the flute the music in her mind and a small glow will begin on her already pale skin. As the song and spell progresses the glow only increases around her. This is caused by the large mana and energy flowing through her body searching for an outlet. The only outlet being through her mind and mouth instead of her body it creates a slight glow. A white light giving her the angelic and ethereal look.
Strengths: Having taken many beatings in her life she has not too much difficulty handling pain. She is silent most of the time and this allows her to hear more things going on around her. She is observant her other senses having become more honed since going mute. She can defend herself with her songs and she can attack with them as well. No physical fighting ability at all.
Weaknesses:
Being silent she cannot call for help or ask for it either. She does have the ability to speak mind to mind but majority of the time prefers to stay as she is silent in a loud world. She is also afraid of men mostly adult men even more so but she is learning to trust again but any men that are large of build are defiantly scary to the young girl. Women she is not afraid of because she has as of yet never known a woman to raise a hand to her.
Spell List:
Soul Song: pours mana into the area allowing the people around her to be sustained after much spell casting. Handy in a battle. Does drain her own mana so she much be careful with how much she gives so that she does not over tax herself.
Celestial Light: a song that creates a nebulous of light floating over an area. Lasts about an hour at full strength and then disappears. The song is two minutes in length and if not cast all the way the spell will cancel and the mana will still be lost. When cast right it creates a light over the dark area that will allow the people to see in the dark.
Divine Defense: a song that as played or sung allows her to create a shield around herself. After played the spell lasts only twenty minutes before she must play it again. But the benefit is as the first ten notes go into the air the shield goes up and she does not have to wait for the song to finish.
Constriction: A song that is a looping song meaning she can play it over and over again without pause and without a break in the notes. This makes the air around the selected enemy grow hard and wrap itself around them. It constricts all movement and keeps the enemy still and open for attack. Spell only lasts as long as the song continues to repeat.
Healers Tear: This song allows the girl to heal friends and allies with light rain. This rain is made of light and not water. It falls from the sky hence the name. This only effects the allies and has no effect on enemies but can also not be cast on only one person but all in the hearing area. This spell however has only a 100 foot rang anyone outside of the range will not be healed.
Ghosts: This song is her attacking spell and song. Again using the air in the area and hardening it the balls of hardened air attack the enemies. Only two may be attacked at once no more. She can choose to only attack one and in that case they get the full brunt of the spell instead of halving it with their buddy.
Mind Speak: a ability that developed and actually needs no singing or flute music to use. This allows her to speak directly into someone’s mind. She believes it developed because she refuses to speak out loud but even still she currently uses it rarely.
Love Song: This song woke when she found out what true love was. Her meeting Jonathan Winters and falling in love has created this song within her soul. It's lyrics sing of angels and roses the notes soft and beautiful. Those that hear this spell will fill with the purpose of defending one's love. The feelings of that all important person perhaps if it is a strong love then they would go as far as to see that person in their minds eye as they fought. The result of this is +2 to Strength. To all who hear.
