Name: Keiya Tenpouin
Occupation: Assassin & Apprentice Sorcerer
Nationality: Japanese
Height: 6’1’’
Weight: 200 lbs
Age: 30
Hair: Black and Short
Eyes: A strange silver colour. His right eye has no iris. This is a marking of his bloodline.
Appearance:
Personality:
Keiya is a nice enough guy if you meet him under the right conditions. In fact, on most days, he is quite cheery. However, getting on his bad side is definitely not advised as he can become a very dangerous man to be around if you incur his wrath. As far as morals go, he has few. But those he does have, he sticks by strongly. He also strives to never break a promise.
History:
Born in Tokyo Japan to the wealthy Tenpouin family, Keiya spent most of his early life wandering about a mansion empty but for the maids and butlers. They lived on the outskirts of the city, as it was the only place the building would fit. Keiya soon learned that the family’s trade was that of assassination. His parents were very powerful sorcerers, and carried on the legacy of the Yuugen style of magic. He never attended a normal school, but was instead trained and taught by the family’s instructors. Soon enough, his father even began to take time out of his daily schedule to train him personally. He explained to him about the difference between the world of Magic, and the regular world. And then, he told him something disturbing. He told him that if he were to ever reveal the secret of magic to the world… He would never see a tracer. Because his father would kill him himself.
As he grew, he began to show a great proficiency in magic. He had learned to draw the symbols in the air, and how to mentally attach the necessary text to the blank cards he held in order to ready them for his spells. It wasn’t until he reached age 12 that he was allowed into the city for the first time. But it wasn’t a pleasure trip. He was to enter the city, and kill a man. Keiya was not told anything about him. Just that they had been paid enough money from the right people to warrant his death… Keiya tracked him down to the basement of a dirty club, which he slipped into due to its lax security. He found the man had just entered a booth, and before he could place his money in the slot, he stabbed a dagger deep into the top of his spine, separating his vertebra and leaving him unable to move. He then removed the dagger and stabbed him once more, this time in the side. His job was then done. The man would bleed to death… Unable to move or call for help from behind the doors of a peep show room.
After his first kill, it all became as natural as killing bugs. He had truly become a member of his bloodline. It was many years later that he received a letter from the Academy. Their operatives had witnessed his actions in magic a few times, and decided to give him the chance to join them, and refine his skills. He saw this as the perfect opportunity to increase his power, and perhaps even surpass his father. And so he accepted, packing his things and leaving to meet the teleporter who would transport him to the hidden city.
Style:
Keiya practices a form of magic that is only truly known within his bloodline, although it is imitated a lot, especially by non magical humans who believe it to be a pagan religion. In reality, it is a mixture of the Symbology and Card/Scroll magic schools, with certain changes. These changes are seen to be dark and evil by some, which is also the reason why it is a practiced occult trend to try and imitate it.
The style, known as Yuugen, is used by channelling one’s mana into a symbol (usually a pentagram of some sort) that they carve into the air in front of them with their index and middle finger in dark red or black markings. Depending on the symbol they create, they can then cast the appropriate spell by performing the appropriate action. This can range from striking the symbol with their palm, to throwing a card at the intended target, making it pass through the drawn symbol.
To a lesser extent, users of the Yuugen are able to throw simple symbols for basic spells across surfaces merely by imagining them. However, these symbols must contact the opponent for them to have effect, making them something used only when the caster has no time to draw a symbol.
Strengths:
Thanks to rigorous training, Keiya is able to carve his symbols through the air with great speed and accuracy, causing his spells to be cast quicker than one would imagine with such a complex style. This speed also gives him the ability to dodge with relative ease. Being an assassin by trade and by blood, he is always aware of his surroundings, and no matter how relaxed he may ever seem, he is always alert.
Weaknesses:
Keiya has no physical defence against spells. Aside from his shield spell, he is unprotected. Also, due to his morals, he will never harm a child, nor will he allow harm to come to one without trying to do something about it. This causes him to put himself into bad situations, even when on the job.
Spell List:
Pentagonal Shield
For this spell, Keiya needs simply raise his right arm, and face his palm out. He then imagines a white Pentagon formed around him at his feet. The symbol will appear as soon as this is done, and raise a transparent (though slightly visible) pentagon shaped wall around him every time he is struck with a physical attack (this includes spells that affect a person on a physical level, such as fireballs and shards of ice). Although quite strong, it is not impregnable, and with enough force from a powerful enough attack, it will shatter, rendering Keiya defenceless.
Due to the simplicity of the spell, it is not very taxing at all on the caster. However, like any spell, it does burn mana, and cannot be maintained forever.
Eternal Darkness
Pulling a card from his vest, he swipes it across his body while locking eyes with his opponent and envisioning darkness. The victim of the spell, if looking at Keiya, will be surrounded by an endless black, unable to see beyond the nose on their face (though technically not blinded). Keiya then utilises the few seconds he has until the effect wears off to achieve his goal. Whether that be attacking his opponent, escaping, or getting past them.
Due to the simplicity of the spell, it is not very taxing at all on the caster. However, like any spell, it does burn mana, and cannot be maintained forever.
4 Elements
A technique that utilises the 4 elements recognised by the Yuugen style. ‘Earth, Water, Fire & Magic’. Keiya throws his arm across his body, and sends an encircled pentagram at his targets feet. Once the pentagram strikes it’s mark, 5 glowing spikes strike the 5 points of the pentagram as he speaks the 4 elements, then the symbol sends a painful charge up the body of the victim. Once struck with the symbol, the target is stuck until the attack ends.
Due to the simplicity of the spell, it is not very taxing at all on the caster. However, like any spell, it does burn mana, and cannot be maintained forever.
Imprison
Drawing a pentagram, he thrusts his arm through the center, then clasping his hand closed. As long as he holds his arm there, a box of encircled pentagrams will form around the intended target and trap them in their place. Keiya however cannot do much from this position. But it is useful for questioning someone hostile, or keeping an enemy in one place just long enough to allow someone else to attack/escape.
The drain of this spell depends entirely on the opponent. The stronger the target, the harder it is to hold the prison in place. The use of this spell comes with a great deal of strategy and analysis of one’s target as a result.
Inferno
Tracing an encircled Japanese flame symbol, the opponent, if within range and at least partially covered by the symbols line of sight, will spontaneously catch alight with fire. The range of this technique is determined by the size of the symbol. (ie, a large symbol would be harder to escape, but the attack would be close range.
This attack is relatively powerful, and as such is moderately draining on the caster.
Shards
Tracing an encircled Japanese water symbol, the opponent, if within range and at least partially covered by the symbols line of sight, will be assaulted by large ice shards emanating from the symbol. The range of this technique is determined by the size of the symbol. (ie, a large symbol would be harder to escape, but the attack would be close range.
This attack is relatively powerful, and as such is moderately draining on the caster.
Red Death
Casting his arm across his body, he pictures a red circle below his opponent. It then rises and captures the intended victim, forcing their body to float up into the air, and positioning itself with arms spread resembling the Christian cross. He withdraws his artefacts and places his right arm up and his left down. Then slowly, he moves his arms outwardly until they have swapped positions (creating a circle). As he does this, a pentagram forms in front of him, and 5 cards attach themselves to the 5 points of the pentagram. Once this is all complete, he thrusts his hands, palms facing out into the center of the pentagram. His index and middle fingers extended and the artefacts in hand. Finally, the 5 lines of the pentagram pool together in the center, and he fires it at his opponent in the form of a red beam. This can devastate an opponent, but due to its complexity and power, it not only leaves him feeling very drained afterwards, but is completely useless if there is more than one opponent present. Also, if the target notices the red cylinder that rises up, they can avoid it if they are quick enough, nullifying the attack completely. It is Keiya’s ultimate technique, and his last resort.
This attack is immensely powerful, and it requires not only a very high percentage of the casters mana, but also a great deal of physical stress on the casters body. After using this, the caster will be left with very little combat ability, and almost no magical ability.
Weapons/Gear:
As far as weapons go, Keiya wields a deck of blank cards which he uses in his spells. Other than that, his hands are the only real weapon he uses.
Items:
Keiya possesses a pair of family heirlooms which, when held in his hands as he draws a symbol, increases the potency of that attack.
Summons, Familiar, and Pets:
A black cat named Emerald (Emmy for short). Although she has no combat ability what-so-ever, she can speak (Both psychically and verbally). She is often with Keiya, and has been known to act as a scout of sorts for him from time to time. No one is sure how he came to be with her, as she is not a regular magical creature, nor is she summoned.
