Regarding his appearance and not his clothing, Relic tends to be seen with a soft content expression or a serious and angry-ish expression. He’s rather tall but slim and he has a tattoo on his right arm of the yin and yang coloured in two different shades of yellow instead of the traditional white and black. Underneath it is a tattooed text which is a vow Relic had had inscribed onto himself so he would never forget.
Personality: Regardless of his past, Relic tends to be quite level minded with things. He’s friendly and most of the times he’s quite laid back.
He can be quite social but at times he becomes very very quiet. The reason for that is some form of depression he’s in. He loves being around people, since it makes him feel better, feel like he’s loved and has some form of purpose. But, other times the memories just catch up with him again, pushing through the mind barrier he set and sometimes causes him to break down or just became very silent.
Relic has quite an understanding of things. He doesn’t judge a person, usually, if they’ve done something horrid in the past seeing as he was no better. However, he despises arrogance and if someone speaks as though they are superior to him, Relic tends to speak in a less friendly manor. Even if he’s quick to forgive, he finds himself holding grudges over arrogant people. Arrogance = major pet peeve.
Relic is gentle and he always finds some form of beauty in this imperfect world. Heck, he even found a bright side to his uncontrollable power and the challenges he’s faced in the past. He doesn’t let most things get to him, but one thing he can’t handle is seeing or hearing of someone’s death. Hearing of deaths from the past isn’t too bad, but if he hears of an acquaintance, friend or familiar’s death, it tends to hit him straight through the heart. Sometimes harder then most.
History: Relic was born to be an only child, and his near future would come to make sure of that. He was to be the first and only child the Zeibel family would ever have.
His first two years were filled with love and comfort, both parents loving their son to bits and being very protective of him. His other family members loved him too, however, all aunts and uncles and cousins seemed to feel he was a little…different. Relic’s parents would always end up inviting the family over less and less, disliking how their family regarded their son. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Relic. He was a good boy and he learned very quickly and they didn’t want their son to grow up wondering why his aunties and uncles treated and looked at him differently.
At three, his life changed. That’s when ‘it’ happened. Relic was in the living room, playing with his variety of toys happily. His parents were just in the other room, looking in their closet for old things to throw out and checking up on their child here and there. Relic was no trouble though and stayed put where his parents told him to stay. All was well really, just another quiet night where after his parents were done doing whatever, they would come see him, and they’d all drink hot chocolate while watching T.V. with popcorn. The usual really. Relic was growing impatient, wanting the time to go faster for the best parts of his days.
He reached over to a wooden block, barely touching it with his finger before it ignited on fire. The sight of it startled him, but he made not even a sound. His heart raced and the fire started to spread onto the floor. Anxiety kicked in and soon, his clothing started to catch fire. How strange…he hadn’t been near the fire at all. No, instead it came from his body, burning away his shirt and his shoes. The only articles of clothing were his shorts and his boxers. He started to panic, the house catching fire more quickly with everything he touched with his shoulders, hands or feet. Seeing as he couldn’t fly, no matter what he did, he could not NOT touch anything.
BeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeP!
The fire alarm started, Relic’s parents frantically opening the door to find a Ring of Fire in the living room. His mother stared wide-eyed, not understanding how this could have happened. Relic couldn’t have started it! There were no matches or reachable lighters around. There were also no candles lit anywhere. What scared her the most was that her child himself was on fire! She screamed and screamed, hitting her husbands arm out of stress and begging him to go save Relic. Relic’s father nodded and ran through the flames quickly, patting out the flamed that caught onto his shirt. He leaned towards Relic, trying to extinguish the flames but with no success. He’d have to bring his wife and child away from the flaming house and THEN try to take out the fire. Strange thing, Relic didn’t seem in pain at all from the fire’s touch. Actually, there were no signs of him being harmed by it in any way. His father stared unbelievable before taking hold of his son. His hands were brought forth but he quickly pulled his hands away and yelled at the burning feeling of his son’s skin. His own skin burst into flames, travelling to his shirt and slowly burning him to death. His father yelled out in pain and ran around, trying to desperately put out the flames but to no avail and soon he was burnt to a crisp.
His mother watched in horror, crying as much as she could and falling to her knees. Relic however, watched in horror, beginning to cry. What had happened to his father? Why was his mommy crying? He didn’t understand…
Fire fighters and Ambulances soon showed up, entering the house and grabbing Relic. It was too late for his parents. He had killed his father and his mother…His mother was engulfed in the flames that approached, and she had cried to her death. The fire on Relic has stopped by this time and the fire fighters were puzzled at the way he wasn’t burnt at all. They called it “A miracle of God” and said that the Lord had spared his life…how wrong they were.
The fire was considered and accident, no one having any evidence to make it a murder. They weren’t sure how the fire started and dropped the fire case all at once. It was merely a mystery now. Relic was placed with a foster family until they could find and locate any family member’s to take him. While living with the Hershel family, Relic quickly befriended their two children. Miss Hershel found Relic to be a charming little boy and he brought much happiness to their family. He reminded them so much of their deceased son. Even though things were great, this soon became a nightmare. A few months living with the Hershel’s, Relic having celebrated his fourth birthday, it happened again. His shoulders feet and hands burst into flames the carpet catching fire. His two siblings began to yell, both parents running into the room. They gasped as they saw Relic’s clothing catch fire and burn away. It as evident now, that with the way his flesh wasn’t burning and that flames rose from six specific places and didn’t travel to anywhere else on his body, that HE was in fact MAKING the fire. But how? The bodily acids he had were a little different then most peoples. His body acids, being different, were the source of all this. That mixed with his mana created the burst of flames.
The Hershel’s quickly grabbed their children and ran out of the house, Relic following along with his family. Miss Hershel glared at Relic and yelled at him to stay there. Relic stopped and blinked, fire catching onto the grass and now spreading quickly towards other neighbouring houses. Again the fire fighters, police and ambulances came, Relic’s fire extinguishes from his body and everyone frantically trying to help put out the five houses that were on fire. The Hershel’s quickly told the police about him, their children explaining how they saw him burst on fire and that he was responsible. The police weren’t sure what to make of it, thinking the Hershel’s could be a little mental. But, it did make sense with the previous fire, which coincidentally, involved that same boy. They asked if he was exposed to any matches or lighters and the family said no.
Having no choice, the Police took Relic away and placed him momentarily in room while they figured out where to put him. They decided to observe him a little, just to see for themselves if the rumours were true and that this boy could truly make fire. The next day, their answer came. It was truly phenomenal, and they couldn’t believe their eyes! He was relocated to a fire-proof room so he wouldn’t start any more fires and the Police began making phone calls to his family members. When they explained the situation, his aunts and uncles told the police they wanted non-of him and hung up. They were truly in a fix. No one wanted him because they were afraid and the police couldn’t keep a four-year-old locked up, even if he did have powers. And they weren’t sure they wanted to place him with a bunch of scientist at such a young age. Also, they had rather that this little incident with the fire powers stay quiet. But, everyone had heard about it by now so it’s not like it made any difference.
After a few days being kept in the fire proof room, seeing as it was the best place for him and he wouldn’t be able to cause any more fires, the door of his temporary chamber opened. A man stepped in with a gentle smile on his face, approaching him and asked his name. “R-Relic Zeibel.” He said softly. The man nodded, liking that name.
“Relic, I’m here to set you free, to take you away from here so you can live with me. Do you want to?” he asked. Relic’s eyes widened and he smiled brightly. He proceeded with a series of nods then stopped and frowned. “But…I’m just gonna burn your house down too…I might even make you go away forever…”
“Don’t you worry child, don’t you worry. I will help you…” the stranger lied. Relic, being young and naïve, quickly accepted. He stood up form is metallic bed and followed the man out, looking at the unconscious police officers worriedly. The man patted his head, and smiled. “They simply fell asleep child…”
The child nodded and walked on and left with the stranger.
This stranger’s name was Chris Summers, a man who had a special type of compass that could lead him to nearby magical beings. Relic had been his second target for some time now and finally he had had the chance to get to the boy.
Upon arriving at his home, Relic and Chris were greeted by a young sixteen-year-old girl. She looked at Relic kindly and introduced herself as Marine. Relic nodded and smiled introducing himself as well and then entering the house. Inside was quite plain. The whole place was rather empty but it felt rather “Homie”.
Relic got to know Marine a bit better. She was just like him except she had a problem with ice. She had frozen all that touched her, killing them. Relic knew how that was…but, seeing as they were opposites, it was soon learned that Marine could not be harmed by Relic’s fire, as her powers cooled it off, and Relic could not be frozen by Marine’s ice since he melted it away. Relic grew very close to Marine, seeing her like an older sister.
Relic’s last name was also changed from Zeibel to Oersted.
Chris took Marine and Relic everywhere he went. The reason? They were his shield. In return for their protection, Chris gave them a home where they couldn’t hurt anyone or destroy anything, and they received fatherly love from him. Chris had many problems with local gangs and mobs and so, fearing for his life, he had hunted down these two to serve as protection. Chris, having been harassed by so many, thought it was about time he repaid the favour. He sent a note to a specific someone to meet him at the park and there…that someone would get his surprise.
Armed with a gun, the man ordered to have the money Chris owed him right away. Chris smirked and sighed, saying that he didn’t have it. The man shook his head then shot saying, “Then die!”
Marine’s hand came up and a large block of ice stopped the bullet. Relic stayed close to Chris, holding onto his leg nervously and shyly as he hid behind him. It was Marine who would handle this for now, seeing as she could control her powers and it was just sometimes that they’d get out of hand. She shot a sharp peace of ice at his hand, piercing through his wrist and forcing him to drop the gun. Afterwards, she froze his feet to the ground and smirked.
“All done here, Mister Chris!” she called out. Chris smiled and nodded, looking down at little Relic and pushing him forth. “Relic, see that man? He’s nice. Why don’t you go give him a hug?” he asked. If his calculations were correct, ‘it’ was about to happen any time soon.
Relic joyously ran towards the man, who recognised him from the articles about him, tried to get himself free from the ice, But every time Marine would replace the cracked ice with a fresh coat. Relic, sweetly wrapped his arms around the man and hugging him tightly, before his exposed hands set him on fire. By now, Relic had been given special type of clothing that were resistant to fire. Only his hand would be exposed and that was good enough. Relic was picked up by Marine, who walked back to Chris and they all left together leaving the man to burn to ashes…
These things were happening frequently, and Relic had grown up to be a fine young sixteen-year-old. He was still living with Marine and Chris, however, one day the police came. They had found Chris’ location and finally had him jailed for life for more then twenty different murders. Marine and Relic were put into special jails, being accomplices for said murders. It wasn’t his fault…he had grown up knowing this was right! He hadn’t known what he had been doing was wrong…
A therapist was assigned to him and she would talk to him. It was thanks to her that Relic knew that killing was wrong. After hearing all she had to say about it, he broke down and cried. He had killed so many… so many and he didn’t deserve to ever leave here. But, he couldn’t stay…
Relic, being able to control his powers now (Though the unsuspected bursts still happened as he wasn’t in control of it just yet), Relic managed to summon up enough mana to blow through the doors that kept him in. He ran away and was eventually confronted by an old man. He smiled to him and told him about ‘Arcane Academy’ and winked. Relic was unsure as to who he was and how he knew about his powers, but he agreed to go there. There, he was sure the others that were perhaps like him could accept him…He’d no longer be looked at like a freak, he’d no longer be used as a tool for something he learned was okay but what actually wrong. No. He’d be his own person now. He’d live…as normally as his powers would allow him to. As Relic sought out to get to Arcane Academy, the old man smirked and disappeared…
Back in Jail, Marine cursed and cursed about Relic. How could he not free her as well?! She swore…she swore that the next time she would see him…she’d kill him. It was just a matter of time before she escaped her prison.
Style: Seeing as he’s a pyro, his attacks depend solely on fire. Wind and air help fuel it up, and so do any other substances that could feed a fire. Unlike some pyros, Relic can make his own fire from his body. This is because of his different kind of body acid and body temperature mixed in with mana usage. Using Mana for this, he can create fire from even simple heated rooms along with something he can focus a very concentrated amount of heat at and set it alight. Along with that comes fire manipulation. If there is a source of fire anywhere, he had make it bigger or smaller or contain it in one spot. He can also take it from there to use to attack, making him use much less mana.
Strengths: Relic is rather dependant of his powers seeing as he’s never fought a hand to hand battle in his life. Of course, he knows the basics like dodging, punching kicking and all that jazz, but using it well is another story. He’s quite quick and can get himself out of bad situations in tactical ways.
When it comes to deciphering an upcoming blow, he’s quite good at that and so using his magic, he tends to be able to either block or counter with ease. He’s also quite good when using his powers, much better then plain old fighting, which is a good thing that he has a lot of mana to spare.
Weaknesses: Damaging a person with hits with his body doesn’t tend to hurt unless he’s in ignition mode, where all hits burn so terribly bad. Unless one is immune to high heat. He’s also not very endurant at all. A few good hits and he’s drastically weakened.
Relic is also weak of mind. If someone knows his fears or uses the topic of death, he feels like breaking down. But that’s just on alternative. Most of the time he’ll break down, but once in a while he’ll become very angry and fight even better then when he’s at a calm state.
Relic is afraid of killing someone, so some of his attacks involving punching or skin contact, he becomes very nervous about. So he may stall a tad bit. If he’s not wearing anything to cover his skin when it comes down to a punch, Relic won’t do it unless he’s sure he’s not in Ignition mode. This can cause serious problems for him in a fight and so he’ll be forced to dodge or maybe block when he’s using his tonfas. Distance if Key and Relic doesn’t always have that.
Spell List:
Fire Storm: Fire swirls around at the victims ankles and rises up, engulfing the person in flames and finishes off with an explosion.
Ignition (Happens at any time, Relic can’t control it yet): Relic’s hands, shoulders and feet are engulfed in fire balls. His skin also becomes very hot to the touch and whether or not you touch the fire, just his skin causes a strange reaction with a person’s body heat, which causes them to burst into flames. The flames are very different from normal ones and only water can put it out. Tapping it out does nothing and air, no matter how strong, only fuels it up. Unlike when he was a child however, Relic can try to control the fire and keep it from spreading.
Flame Thrower: From Relic’s fingertips (Index and Middle finger) fire shoots out like a real flame thrower. Distance covered it about two and a half meters long.
Fire Wall: This is his defence. It can go two ways. 1) A wall of fire that reaches up high and wide is made in front of him. This can burn and stop objects thrown at him. Or 2) The fire engulfs his entire body for a while. This is used if he is grabbed and his body hasn’t ignited already yet.
Pheonix: Not that a real Pheonix shows up, but one made of his fire comes out of his back and then transforms into fiery wings. He basically uses it for show, but if he has to fly somewhere they come in handy. However, thy take up a lot of energy and so he uses it for the purpose of flight, only with emergencies.
Weapons/Gear: Bladed Tonfas (Tonfas with a curve that slightly surpasses the length of his elbow and on the outside are blades.)
Items: N/A
Note: As long as he wears his fire proof clothes and doesn’t touch you with his skin when he’s in Ignition mode, then people are safe from harm. However, his body is still quite hot, so a hand shake or a hug isn’t suggested unless you wanna get burnt by the heat itself. Picture Hugging a piece of metal that’s just got heated up until the point it would melt.
