Name: Hadrian Adonnis Charon
Occupation: Apprentice Shadow Mage
Nationality: Undetermined
Height: 6’ 2”
Weight: 160 lbs
Age: 16
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Crimson normally
Black, pupiless when his wings are out
Appearance:
Personality: Hadrian is usually quiet and reserved. It is not however a reservation born of shyness but of disdain for the human race. He is also very proud, he thinks himself superior to humans. Hadrian also has a manic, bloodlust side that comes out during a battle. He has worked for many years to control the frenzy that comes out in battle and harness it to make him stronger and more dangerous in battle.
History: It had been a few years ago, another like him had escaped from the Nephilim Corporation. They had been trying for years to create a perfect pair of beings, infused with both avian and human DNA. They had successfully created a female and were trying desperately to create a male. An Adam and an Eve to propagate a brand new species, one which would be superior to humanity in everyway, the perfect living beings. After the girl escaped they re-doubled their efforts, working tirelessly for months to perfect the process and create a suitable male counterpart.
His wailing birth shriek signaled that the experiment had been a success. At last they created a male counterpart to their last subject, after Experiment 01 had escaped 02, the male, had been all that the Nephilim’s scientists had been focused on. Especially one Doctor Damien Calhoun, he had made it his personal mission to make sure that a male was successfully created. It had become his life’s work and he had become quite obsessed with Experiment 02. But it was not enough to have just 02, Calhoun now had to have both of them, one would not be enough. He needed to see his vision of a race of his perfect beings come to pass.
02 was subjected to all sorts of experiments in order to bring out his magical potential, as 01 had. They found, interestingly enough, that 02 was in almost all ways the exact opposite of 01. Instead of using light as 01 had, 02 seemed to be able to control shadows. He also took, quite vigorously, to the death challenges they put him through. Of course this was due in large part to the daily torture regiment they put him through to desensitize him to pain and suffering.
They had injected him with something, he didn’t know what but he did know that the needle hurt. All the constant prodding and poking was rather annoying. It didn’t hurt so much anymore as he had been desensitized to pain. He had the scars to show all the torture he had been through to desensitize him. His back was riddled with rough scars, many of them blade wounds from the numerous death matches they put him through. They forced him to kill, but he didn’t mind, in fact he quite enjoyed slaughtering those they pitted him against. Their shrieks and wails made him shiver with delight, especially the gurgling after he finished them off and they began to succumb to death.
02 was modified to go through accelerated growth, he did not remember much of his childhood because he did not have much of a childhood. This gave the Corporation time to train 02 to become the perfect killer. The only thing they would not let him kill was 01, Celeste Marquis…they had found her name and where she was. The Arcane Academy, a school of magic, they had found her after she had first escaped and nursed her back to health.
The klaxons shrieked and the warning lights flashed violently red. 02 had escaped just like 01 had, but not for the same reasons. 02 was too eager to retrieve 01 and he had broken out because they were holding him back, restraining him from completing his mission. A loud choked gurgle emanated from the room as Hadrian’s hand wrapped around Calhoun’s throat. Behind him, lay the slaughtered Experiment 02 Project staff, slaughtered like lambs.
Hadrian’s grin was manic as his scythe ripped through Calhoun’s mid-section. There was a satisfying slopping sound as Calhoun was disemboweled and his entrails spilled out onto the floor. Calhoun could only marvel at what a wonderful killing machine his latest creation had become as he dropped to the floor, landing in his own intestines as the last remaining life he had seeped from his body. Hadrian smiled and licked at the blood that stained the blade of his scythe. He would have her, one way or another. Even if the Corporation refused to allow him to go after her so soon. Not even they could stop him anymore. Especially not when half their staff was dead, lying in pools of their own bodily fluids.
Celeste Marquise, that was the name she had either chosen for herself or was given by the Academy. Hadrian was not entirely sure, the Corporation had no record on how she had obtained the name. He too had given himself a name, not long before he had decided to slaughter his creators and go after their first creation for himself. In fact the Nephilim Corporation knew very little as to what had happened to Celeste after she was taken in by the Academy. Hadrian did not care much for such mundane details though, all he needed to know was what she called herself and where she was.
He would find her, but then he did not know what he would do with her. Should he kill her or use her to propagate their kind? But if there were more of them then he would no longer be unique and Hadrian was rather fond of being only one of two of his kind in existence. Maybe he would not kill her either, he had not decided yet but that little mattered now. What mattered was escaping to find her.
Hadrian stepped out into the cool night air, the breeze swirled around him like a gentle caress. He grinned darkly, the back of his Corporation-issued shirt tearing open as he sprouted his wings. Their ebony feathers sway softly in the breeze, while he gave them several test flaps. He floated a few feet in the air and started to fly off. Only one destination was on his mind, only one name on his lips.
“Celeste…”
Style
Hadrian’s magical abilities can only be described as shadow magic. Due to the Nephilim Corporation’s genetic tampering, he like Celeste gained magical power. But unlike Celeste he developed the power to project and control shadows. Hadrian can only use his magic when his wings are out.
Strengths: Hadrian is a brutally efficient combatant. He is quite skilled in weakening his opponent enough to be able to deliver the final death blow. When Hadrian is in a fight it is almost certainly to the death and he will not give up until he is the victor. His pride grants him a rather severe tenacity in fights. He is also quite skilled at twisting and toying with the desires of others to use them to gain what he wants. Also due to his genetic tampering he has enhanced senses, mainly eyesight and hearing. Extended torture sessions have dulled his sense of pain and he is able to take quite a beating before he begins to feel the effects of his wounds.
Weaknesses:
Hadrian’s wings are probably his biggest weakness. They are rather large targets and without them he cannot perform any magic. If they are damaged he could possibly be unable to use any of his spells. Also his deadened sense of pain could also potentially be harmful. Hadrian might suffer a serious wound and not realize how serious it was because of his dulled reactions to pain. Being a shadow mage, Hadrian has a pronounced weakness to light-based spells.
Spell List:
Shadow Tendrils- Hadrian is able to project and control chords of shadow that he uses to ensnare and bind an enemy. The tendrils are weak to light and their hold can be loosened if exposed to a light spell.
Shadow Beam- Hadrian harnesses shadow into his hand and projects it as a beam towards his opponent. The beam can cause significant damage, and is able to punch through lighter armor, but it does not pierce flesh. It is designed to cause suffering not kill.
Haze- Hadrian unleashes a cloud of dark mist that obscures his opponent’s view. The mist is also poisonous and is able to overwhelm an opponent’s senses causing confusion and in some cases rendering them unconscious
Dark Blade- Hadrian encases his hand in a blade of shadow. This spell, unlike Shadow Beam, is designed solely with the purpose to kill. However Hadrian does like to use it to torment and torture is opponent with agonizing cuts.
Veil- Hadrian wraps shadow around himself to render himself virtually invisible.
Darkness’ Eye- Hadrian forms a small hovering eye out of shadow. The eye acts as a third eye to Hadrian and he can guide it’s movement.
Scythe of the Nephilim- Hadrian can summon a weapon of true darkness. He treats his scythe as an extension of his own being, it is razor sharp. Hadrian can discharge shockwaves of shadow energy from his Scythe giving it function as both a ranged and melee weapon.
Shards of Darkness- Hadrian conjures and projects a cloud of small but razor sharp serrated blades of shadow. This spell can also be used to pin an enemy to a wall but is mostly used to torture and cause extreme pain.
Shadow Curtain- Hadrian can conjure a length of shadow that acts as a shield. However it is flexible like cloth and can be moved into place to protect an area of his body easily. It becomes rigid once a moving body comes into contact with it.
Fist of Darkness- Hadrian conjures up a disembodied fist of shadow. This fist can be controlled with the movements of his own fist and acts as an extension of his body, reacting to his thoughts as fast as his own hand.
Shadow Tide- Hadrian conjures shadow up in the form of a crushing wave which is directed at the enemy.
Infection- Hadrian laces his hand with poisoned shadow and a single touch infects the target. The poison slowly damages the victim while at the same time healing Hadrian. Eventually the effects of the infection will either paralyze the victim or cause them to fall unconscious.
