Name: Richard Price, Jr.
Occupation: World-Champion Martial Artist, Acolyte Chi-Channeler
Nationality: American
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 174 lbs.
Age: 17 years.
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance: Click for Visual Aid.
Richard's appearance may seem a bit dark, but in truth, he's quite normal for a boy of his age. He dresses in various blacks and leathers since he found himself at the Academy's doorstep, expecting the air this high up to be a lot colder. He often wears the depicted jacket, both shortsleeved and longsleeved variety, and the black gloves as well. The studded belt, he keeps wrapped around his right wrist with varying degrees of slack, depending on the situation. At times, he will even wrap it around both arms, constricting his arm movement to give his opponent a more fair fight.
Under the jacket, it is more of the same, black pants and tight black tank tops. Simply put, Richard dresses with a very simplistic style that becomes somewhat stylish in its own right.
Personality: Cocky. Richard has won many, many martial arts tournaments in his short life, and is undoubtedly a very talented fighter. He is also VERY aware of this. This should not be confused with Arrogance, however. Richard doesn't technically consider others beneath him, so much as he considers himself above others. It's a complicated system that likely makes sense only to him, yet he does not like it when people interchange the two in regards to him.
Aside from that, however, Richard is quite the normal teenager. He likes to have fun, he's easy-going, and generally a fun guy to be around. However, in strange contradiction to his cockiness, he is also very disciplined, a side-effect of his constant training in the Martial Arts. This keeps him incredibly self-controlled, and causes those who know this about him to wonder if his cockiness is all just an act, or if it is the self-control he's faking.
History: The history of the young man Richard Price, to those chronicling his archives from the magical realm, is anything but significant. He is simply another fighter upon the earth that has little else going on in life.
However, to those who know him, either personally or from seeing him in action, he is a champion and a hero.
Multiple-time Champion in various martial arts tournaments, Richard was born to be a Karate star. His father, Richard Price, Sr., a well-versed 7th Dan in Kyokushinkai, raised his son as any father would: In his own image. He wanted Richard, Jr. to be just as successfull in life as he had been. Richard, eager to please his father, trained as much as possible each day from the day he could walk, starting in quite basic conditioning and personal training from the early days and slowly evolving into more structured martial arts.
Richard took to Kyokushin Karate quickly, his drive and determination to succeed mixing will with his natural bred talent. It wasn't long before he wanted to take on a new style as well, and thus branched out, learning Northern Shaolin Kung Fu as well as taking courses in Kenjutsu from two other schools, all while learning Kyokushinkai from his father. It wasn't long before Richard began hybridizing the two unarmed styles, and forming a clever combination of the two, he would win tournament after tournament.
His father was quite proud of him, but Richard still yearned for more. He had beaten almost everyone that could be beaten, yet had also taken his share of losses along the way as well. Regardless, the victories appealed to him more, naturally, and he became quite sure of himself, to the point of cockiness and past. Out of options in the physical aspect of the martial arts, Richard turned to the spiritual side of them, learning all he could about 'chi' and the 'balance' that lies within everything.
His talent in the martial arts, he would find, even extended to this, as basic chi channeling came to him as well, through his own personal studies. However, he knew that this was not the right environment for him to fully learn such techniques. With skeptics and naysayers all over the globe, constantly denouncing the existence of chi, or the ability to harness it, Richard knew that the earth itself was simply the wrong place for him. He was heartbroken, until whispered words reached his ears. His plights had apparently not fallen on deaf ears themselves, and a few of his more understanding and open-minded fans released to him a special bit of information: Floating high above the world was a land where Magic not only existed, but was freely practiced. Richard somehow knew that, even if he could find no others of his kind there, he would at least be in the right environment to fully practice his craft.
And maybe, just maybe, there would be some new talent to challenge as well.
Style: Physical: Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Kyokushin Karate. The acrobatic and quick striking nature of this particular Kung Fu, Richard has found, complements well with the full-contact, yet circular defense of Kyokushinryu. However, Richard has also recently picked up the art of T'ai Chi, though mostly as a spiritual art to help him focus his chi rather than as a contact martial art. He also has been taught a lot in Kenjutsu, thus being able to wield his sword. Magical: Chi-bending. Richard's most recently discovered step in understanding the martial arts is understanding the deeper parts of its spiritual side. He has only very recently learned to unlock his ability to manipulate Chi, and plans to train at the Academy, completely surrounding himself with others of magical ability in an attempt to further understand the intricacies of this power.
Strengths: Truly a gifted master of the martial arts, Richard has yet t o meet his equal in hand-to-hand combat. He is quick and hits hard, and is very tenacious in his drive to succeed, allowing him to push himself to his absolute limits in any kind of competition. His skill in armed combat, mostly with the katana, is also well-documented, though it pales in comparison to his unarmed combat ability.
Weaknesses: Inexperience with the magical world is likely to be Richard's most crippling weakness, in unison with his general cockiness. Being in a whole new world now, Richard has little to no idea what he is up against with the magic users he will meet, and will be prone to underestimating them.
Aside from that, Richard's list of techniques is small, and the potential to learn more is rather low. This leaves him only a few different ways of dispatching an opponent and makes him much, MUCH less versatile than the average spell caster.
Technique List:
Chi TK: So far the only thing Richard is even moderately proficient with. Focusing his own Chi and extending it towards another object, Richard manages to 'harmonize' the object or objects Chi with his own, allowing a sort of commune between the two that allows him to move the item as if it is an extension of his own body. Size is not a factor when using this technique, but extended use will leave him lacking Chi and feeling very fatigued. This technique can be utilized with little prep time, but has absolutely no capability for growth as he grows in his understanding of Chi.
Chi Blast: A technique that Richard has only recently been able to put into use, Richard can direct and push his personal Chi out in bursts of concussive force, visible not only by the rippling wave of energy emanating from his chosen point of expulsion (almost always the hands), but also by the fact that the Chi must be physically thrust from the body, and a sharp pushing or throwing motion from an extremity must be utilized to make the technique work. This technique has little Chi drain, but will fatigue him if over-used, especially in conjunction with other techniques. The force of the blasts, as well as the Chi drain, has the potential to grow with time.
The aforementioned techniques are in-battle techniques that can be used at a moment's notice. The following two techniques require much more focus, and will not be able to be performed in the middle of a battle, and only at the beginning if the opponent allows it (aka: Richard is not interrupted.)
Focus Strength: Focusing and re-assembling his Chi, in a sense, to perform a specific task, Richard can increase the damaging capability of all of his attacks. (In other words, I move as many points as I desire from my Chi stat to my Strength. Naturally, the less Chi I have remaining, the less I will be able to use the two battle techniques.)
Focus Speed: Much like focusing strength, Richard focuses his Chi into making him faster and more agile, giving him the ability to dodge many more attacks than usual. (Like Focus Strength, except the points go into Dexterity, naturally. The same consequences apply.)
Passive Skills (Newly Learned as of Spell Caster Rank)
Sense Chi: As he developed further in his understanding and usage of the flow of Chi, Price has gained the ability to perceive the Chi signatures of objects around him. As he has only recently begotten this ability, his senses are still not fine tuned, and thus, can only 'see' the Chi of living creatures, in whom the signatures read the strongest. This gives him not only an idea of how strong someone is in their magic, just by the intensity of their Chi signature, and will also give him a general idea of where a person is spatially, if his sight or other senses are hampered in any way.
Feats of Chi: With a more advanced ability to control his and others' Chi, Price has become very fluent in using it to his advantage in small measures at a time. Using this ability, Price perform aerial and acrobatic techniques well beyond the capabilities of most humans, just by subconsciously focusing and utilizing his Chi and the Chi around him. (In other words, though he gains no stat bonuses or anything of the sort, Price is now able to perform a wider range of dodges/blocks/counters, a la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.)
Weapons/Gear: An average, run-of-the-mill katana that Richard either sheathes at his side or at his back, but always under his coat, if he's wearing it. The blade has no magical properties at all, apparent or latent. It is simply a katana he uses to even the odds against armed opponents with.
