Name: Audric Aurin Alaunte
Occupation: Apprentice Necromancer
Nationality: British
Height: 5 foot 7 inches
Weight: 165 pounds
Age: Sixteen
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Lavender
Appearance: Standing at average height for his age Audric has a slim and wiry body only slim not exactly in top physical condition. His pale lavender gaze is always studying and rarely flickers with emotion unless he’s around his fiancé. Audric’s the kind of guy who carries out the gothic look perfectly even when he isn’t even attempting to look like it. Small glasses are found on the bridge of his nose not only to help him with sunlight but, the fact that he needs them to read without straining his eyes. While he usually wears high-collared shirts and jackets to cover his neck around there is an amulet around it. This beautiful silver chain craft amulet’s main focus is the extravagant pendent that hangs on Audric’s chest. Imbedded in this amulet is a stunning alexandrite jewel. This amulet is the focus for most of Audric’s abilities and he can use it to amplify spells should he be willing to invest the energy. Audric has a soft and quiet voice the kind that never rises above a soft-tone but, the inflections with his words show it all especially when he’s disappointed or annoyed. His cool demeanor makes him appear to be cold as ice but, his fiancé knows otherwise. On his left ring finger is the beautiful platinum engagement ring that shows his arranged marriage.
Personality: Focused, calm, collected, wise. These words sum up Audric’s personality being from a highly influential family in England. Wealth is meaningless to him and where people would accuse him of showing off he is merely doing what he was raised to do. He’s highly focused in anything he dedicates himself to or what his parents decide that he must do being from a long legacy of necromancers. Audric is the poster child for them and has been spared no expense making him arrogant and imperious in some ways because he has not seen things done differently. While he was surprised by the arranged marriage with Tavia he has not yet lost his cool yet. His drive to master more and more abilities often leads to unhealthy consequences as he’s willing to put nearly anything on the line to achieve a higher level ability. This is not to just satisfy himself but, also satisfy the family expectations that have weighed heavily on him ever since his early childhood.
History: Audric was born to the powerful Alaunte family that has prided itself on turning out necromancers and dark wizards for the past one thousand years. The family line was taught to Audric at a young age that he should take pride in his name and realize that his rank meant he was greater then others. He was of noble birth and given the training to act noble and regal at a young age squashing any chance for an energetic childhood. Where many children would play games and have fun Audric was taught the elegance and grace that was associated with his birth. It is this raising that made Audric realize to show emotion openly was a sign of weakness and had to be quelled. The young man was raised with up most hope and care in the hope that he would have the ability to use magic as well. The Alaunte family had been growing worried as their powers had been waning recently to the point that they had been about to get desperate and contact fell beings to rejuvenate their line.
That is, at least they were desperate until Audric showed his power at a young age. Not just any power. During a trance Audric had somehow animated the bones of several old retainers and servants that have long since passed and died. They were moving under Audric’s power alone. The family was overjoyed at this news. That there son had not only the gift but, a powerful gift that showed even at a young age. To Audric it was a sign of desperation to fight off the disappointment in his family when he had showed no magical gift for them to celebrate over. Yet the family was pleased by this result and that made Audric more pleasant. Whatever he could bring forth under his own strength would please the family. While he was imperious to others he was driven to given the family line a name once again to be feared or respected in the magical world. Being that the two are vastly similar anyways Audric did not care. He thirsted for the ability to make his family cherish him even more.
Audric’s powers grew as he gained more and more practice. The family’s tomes and researches had been carefully preserved giving Audric something to reference himself with. While he was certainly continued in the training of being noble his name at times did not suit him. Audric meant wise ruler and at times he was vastly impatient in his desire to learn or to achieve something else. His family in their worry began to take Audric out to social occasions that they had been invited to. The pale-skinned young man was able to apply his training in dances, events, and dinners without working on his other gifts and abilities. Audric was prized and often the focus of the empty-headed women at many occasions. He quickly learned that they were not out for truly feelings but, only the power that he possessed. It was something that irked and irritated him beyond belief. Had it not been for the unknown intervention of a Tracer that quelled his temper for the moment things could have gotten nasty.
Audric had pleased his family as he grew in strength and ability yet his family wanted to ensure that the magic line would never again fall behind. They searched for someone else with a powerful magical gift. Someone that would suit their son and defer to him in marital decisions. They found it in a young girl. A girl who was para human. This had alarmed them slightly until they heard the whispers and rumors of her power in the underground magical community there. That at a young age she burned down a house completely while showing no signs of being burned not even the smell of smoke or the char of fire on her. It intrigued them greatly. They wanted this girl and found that the family was impoverished. Desperate for wealth after being expelled from their community. The Alaunte patriarch saw their desperation and used it in his argument that the girl should be married to Audric.
Married so not only would they have the wealth of the Alauntes to back them but, also once again reach social acceptance. The family more or less willingly sold their daughter to become Audric’s fiancé. He was surprised by that his family would have already arranged his marriage but, in some ways he was relieved. Relieved that he would no longer have to put up with the empty-headed idiots at balls and dances who sought his power. Audric was sent to the Arcane Academy to not only master even more of his power but, also to meet his fiancé in the family’s hopes that their magic lines would once again be restored to greatness.
Style: Necromancy
“Thought to be a branch of The Elemental Branch of Spirit, it was soon determined that Necromancy is a different style from spirit and deserved its own recognition. Where as Spirit would call out spirits to fight for the caller or inhabit the body of the caller for varied uses, Necromancy is the art of manipulating death. Causing instant death to a target is the highest level of Necromancy, but doing such a spell would require huge energy to perform. However, lower forms, of Necromancy exists. One is raising the body of the dead to heed the raiser, or manipulating corpses and bones to the users bidding. Basically, all life-less objects are subjected to the caller. However, by lifeless, it refers to objects which were once alive and now aren't, as oppose to inanimate objects such as a chair. Necromancy is often viewed as wicked and impure though it is greatly misunderstood for what it really is. The power to manipulate life and death…”
This is the basic definition as provided by the Arcane Academy Necromancer Tome found on page fourteen of many Dark Arts books as well. The Alaunte family has taken this a step further then others. Having generations of research and information to put to their use the Alauntes have mastered two other key abilities. The first is the ability to amplify spell power by the focus of an amulet that is crafted when a child first shows magical potential allowing them to make their spells more powerful then normal. The second is a variation of scroll magic being a spell book. Through these specially treated and enchanted books an Alaunte Necromancer can prepare spells onto its pages to give them a longer stay in combat since they rely purely on magic. It costs energy to compose the spell in fact the energy that would normally be used when casting it. Once composed however, it stays until the small energy required to activate it is used. The page is then swept clean as the energy is released and can be reused by composing another spell in it. Due to the special composition of geometrics each spell takes two pages regardless of what it is and in the heat of battle it always takes a few seconds to find the spell. Plus another second or two to glance at the spell and activate it.
Strengths: Necromancy is a powerful range of abilities often giving a sheer advantage in having a wide range of skills to choose from. Because Audric can compose spells into his book through a special geometric format he is able to last longer in combat having more spells at his control. Through his amulet he is able to amplify spells should he be willing to use more energy then usual. Audric’s ability to keep a constant flow of spells going makes him a dangerous opponent inside and outside of combat. His heavy ability with necromancy makes him somewhat creative in combat and defiantly a tactician when forced to fight.
Weaknesses: Audric has no combat training whatsoever relying solely on his ability to use magic. Without his spell book Audric will use much more energy in a battle often being his downfall and making him an easier target. Without his amulet he is unable to amplify his spells and make them stronger. In addition Audric is forced to open up with a defensive spell so he is not blown away quickly in combat. Still Audric can not yet instantly access a particular spell his book must be opened to the required page so he can glance at it for a brief moment and activate it.
Spell List: Current spells and abilities that Audric has.
[/li][li]Armor of the Twilight – Audric’s primary defensive spell, this spell surrounds Audric in a shimmering twinkling starlight energy that is notably black and deep purple. It is shaped into the likeness of full plate armor however, the caster can still be seen from under it. The armor does not hinder Audric’s movement and his book is protected by the spell as well meaning that the armor has to be beaten down first. The energy can take quite a bit of punishment but, it can be shattered or overwhelmed by powerful attacks. This spell takes a moderate amount of energy.
[/li][li]Skeletal Minions – Audric is a necromancer and his primary ability is to summon skeletal warriors to his command. So far there are two kinds of skeletal warriors that Audric can summon. The first is the melee type, these warriors wearing light armor from forgotten warriors and ages having a long sword and shield. The second is the ranged type, these guys have long bows and often work in coordination with the melee type providing ranged archery to rain down on an enemy. Like the melee type they have light armor from forgotten times as well. The armor is often mismatched and occasionally rusted in some places giving it some weakened durability. At Audric’s current strength he is only able to call and control four at a time. Each skeleton called uses a small amount of energy. When prepared in the book Audric prepares it so he can summon four at a time upon activation.
[/li][li]Death Coil – Necromancy is the energy of life and death is this is fairly true with this spell. Audric unleashes a bolt of blight energy from his hand which wraps around a single target and drains them of energy and endurance (-2 to both stats) which then returns to Audric and partially replenishes his energy and endurance (+1 to both stats). This is often used as Audric’s main attack spell and can be amplified to drain more from his opponent. Regardless he only gains half of the energy and endurance drained from anything that he uses the spell on. This spell drains a small amount of energy with each usage.
[/li][li]Spell Book of Alaunte – This special book has an elegant purple cover with metallic binding under it to protect the book. Minor enchantments are used to protect the pages from common deterioration and insects as well as keeping it looking like new. There are forty pages in the book with room to add more meaning that Audric can keep up to twenty spells prepared at any single time. Audric can not have amplified spells prepared due to the exactness of his writing. When a spell is used the pages that it was on are wiped clean and can be reused to apply a new spell on it. This book is the key in allowing Audric to stay in a fight.
[/li][li]Amplify Spell – Through focusing on his amulet Audric has the ability to amplify spells that he casts by sinking more energy into the casting to make them more powerful. Skeletons gain more endurance, death coil becomes more powerful, and armor of the twilight can take more punishment, and so on and so forth. Audric has to have his amulet on his person in order to use this ability.
[/li][li]Replenishment of the Grave – By grounding himself to a specific spot Audric recovers his energy at a slow rate and dramatically lowers the effectiveness of electrical spells having any effect on him whatsoever. Audric recovers at a rate of one energy per turn making this a slow but, instrumental spell. Because Audric can not move from the spot that he is grounded to this means that he can not dodge attacks and is forced to rely on his defensive spell or having something else in the way.
[/li][li]Poison of the Body – This spell launches a bolt of negative energy at his opponent and should the spell hit it weakens an opponent every turn (-1 to strength and -1 to dexterity) until it reaches its full effect (-5 to both stats). This spell can be used multiple times to stack but, will never lower someone below five in strength or dexterity. This uses a small amount of energy.
[/li][li]Field of Bones – This is Audric’s area of effect spell in which he must touch the ground, and focus his gaze on where he wants the spell to take effect. A twenty-foot radius area is affected in which sharpened bones stakes will burst from the ground to impale anything in the area. This is useful in taking on groups of enemies that are in close-knit groups. This spell only affects targets on the ground. This spell uses a moderate amount of energy.
Weapons/Gear:
[/li][li]Spell Book of Alaunte – The spell book that Audric uses to supplement his abilities in combat. This often requires constant attention is replacing spells as Audric uses them and is almost always found on his person. The book looks rather new and there is room for Audric to add more pages as he gains more abilities.
[/li][li]Amulet of Alaunte – This special amulet is the focus for Audric’s amplify spell ability and he never takes it off for fear of losing it. The amulet is always in contact with his skin unless he lifts it to show somebody.
