Name: Brandon "Tech" Thomas
Occupation: Technomancer Spellcaster
Nationality: American
Height: 6' 4''
Weight: 167 lbs.
Age: 17
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Green (genuine), Red (artificial, see below)
Appearance: Prefers coats with long sleeves and other clothes that cover as much of his skin as possible, including a cap to cover the top of his head. Usually dark colors. His arms and legs have been replaced by prosthetics of a strange, black metal. The prosthetics begin a few inches after the joint (elbow and knee respectively), and continue outwards covering the remaining part of the limb. This includes his hands and feet as well as most of the right part of his head, including his eye, which is now an analytic camera that glows with crimson red light. The mouth and nose are untouched, however. The replacements look fairly crude and are enough to scare most people off.
This is a picture from an SoG file (see below) of the type of cyborg that Tech is
with the following changes: No chin piece, the cybernetic parts are only on the right side of his head and it covers his entire cheek
Personality: Brandon is a nice, quiet guy who tends to keep to himself. He's easy going, pleasant and understanding, but rarely speaks if not spoken to. Doesn't seek out company, and it can be very hard to get him to open up, but once that is done you have a friend for life. Is lonely, however, and afraid of taking initiative. The incident (see below) has rendered him mildly manic deppressive, but this is a shell that can be cracked with the right approach.
History:
Brandon was the only child of a wealthy couple, who spent most of his life on buisness trips. During these trips Brandon would live with his uncle, a good, easy-going man with his own car workshop and a big heart. Brandon would enjoy the time they spent together, learning several of the secrets behind mechanics. He also found a friend in the blind girl Kelsie, whom he would enjoy playing games with whenever he was tired of hanging out at his uncles garage. This gave ground to a warm friendship betweent the two, a strong bond that only grew.
When he began at school, however, it soon became clear that he was an intellectual prodigy, and his parents had him rushed through basic education, much against his will. They forbade him seeing his uncle who they saw as a bad influence. In truth Brandon only wanted to be a mechanic, a thing which his parents wouldn't hear of due to his high grades and excessive intellect. By forbidding contact with his uncle they also sewered any hope of seeing Kelsie again, a thing for which he never forgave them. He got his own back by abandoning his studies, spending most of his time partying, drinking and taking various kinds of drugs. He also had a very succesfull time as a womanizer, due to his charming nature and good looks.
One night, during an especially wild party, a new kind of drug had been passed around. Always eager to try something new, Brandon had urged everyone to inject their share, and, as an incentive, had taken his shot first. The effects had been disastrous. Approximately twenty minutes after the injection, unconsciousness struck him, and he began to convulse violently, screaming with agony. His friends, in their panic, called 911. There was an ambulance in the neighborhood, thanks to a hoax call, and within five minutes he was in the ambulance and on his way to the local hospital.
On his way to the hospital, parts of his extremities began to erode, his skin brushed aside by a bubbling mass beneath. By the time they reached the hospital, the erosion had also begun on his head. He was taken into surgery straight away, but the corruption was too widespread for simple amputation. Had the infamous “Seekers Of Glory” (SOG) not had their claws in that particular hospital, this would certainly have been the end of young Brandon.
The SOG was a powerful organization of rogue scientist all over the world. Their ambitions were many and divided and now many different branches had planted themselves all over the world. This particular branch had dedicated themselves to discover the true power of humans through modifications of their bodies, using technology, magic and drugs to alter their biology.
When the doctors declared him a hopeless case, the SOG struck. They placed him in a device named “Stasis Cube” designed especially for cases like his own. The cube was a techno-magic invention designed in the brief period the SOG worked as whole. It ejected the chronological energies within itself, effectively slowing the passing of time to nearly a hundredth of its regular passage, rendering the dying Brandon temporarily safe.
When he arrived at the covert laboratory the scientist immediately began conducting their experiments. They neutralized the acid in his veins and removed the damaged parts of his body including a bit of right head. His body had been heavily, although not lethally, damaged, but the scientists still found themselves forced to amputate both his legs from the knees and down, his arms from elbows and down and part of the right half of his head.
They carefully examined the few milligrams of the experimental drug left in his system, to discover that the drug, on its own, was no more damaging than mescaline, but combined with alcohol created a biologically corrosive reaction. This new, corrosive substance weighed more than the blood it circulated, and therefore rested in the extremities of the body where the dissolution began.
The scientists noticed irregularities in Brandon’s DNA, and decided to try something new on him. They added enhanced prosthetics of his arms and legs, but also added and advanced computer system in the damaged part of his brain. They then injected drugs to help his body accept the replacements. One of the drugs unintentionally awoke his latent magical talent.
Their intention was to create a three-in-one super-intelligent professor, deadly body-guard and continued experimental subject to aid their goals. “Ein über-mench!” as one of the present scientist proudly stated.
All the prosthetics were made of black-metal, another creation of the united SOG. It was designed to super durable without disrupting the biology or powers of the subjects. They had installed several years of highly advanced education and research into the computer that was now part of his neural network. They then locked him away to heal.
Their project had been both a great success and a terrible failure. Brandon’s body coped perfectly with the attachments, and his now three-split brain worked far better than expected, improving his already lavish IQ. Part of his programming had also contained martial arts and acrobatics files and he was subject to excessively hard training to teach his body what his mind now knew.
The failure was that they had been far to focused on improving his capabilities to worry about his loyalty. One day, when he saw his chance, Brandon made his escape, the present guards proved to be no match for his enhanced physique, and he made his escape with barely anyone left to hunt him.
He discovered that he had been declared dead, and instinctively went back to the last place he could remember, the place where the party had been held. He already knew the truth by the time he arrived. All his friends were dead, killed by the reaction between the drug and alcohol. Hurting and confused, he turned to the only individual whom he had truly trusted and knew where to find, his uncle.
By the time he arrived, the SOG, easily having anticipated his move, were waiting for him. His uncle fought against them, but was quickly killed. Devastated, Brandon turned his anger upon the SOGs, using his technologically enhanced magic to destroy them. He spent the next few years as a scientist for hire among criminals, pondering over plans of revenge. A tracer noticed irregulaities and came to investigate. He opened Brandon's eyes to a world of people who shared his powers and gave him a vision, a hope of peace. Brandon packed all of belongings and followed the tracer to the Arcane Academy, his head held high and his heart beating with excitement.
Style: Brandon's magical style is mostly concerning the creation and powering of items and chemicals, that bend or break the rules of normal human science. The weapons and gadgets he carries are powered by his own magical energy, as are his prosthetics. Without his machinations that refine and purify his internal energy, he would, in theory, only be able to release violent blasts of energy, that consisted of raw, chaotic energy, that would be more likely to create trouble than good.
With an alchmist's laborotary, or his own little techno-magical setup, he can create nothing short of miracles, although, due to his inexperience this can also result in disasters.
Strengths: His extremities are made of metal which gives him an edge in hand-to-hand combat. His enhanced brain helps him predict the moves of others, based on a likelyhood analasys on their stances, facial expression, adrenaline level, etc. His red-glowing, mechanical right eye serves to intimidate his opponents, the unblinking, crimson light, giving him a somewhat creepy outlook. High pain threhshold.
Weaknesses:
The mechanized parts of Brandon's body can be temporarily disabled by electrical shock, rendring him unconciouss as part of his brain is also disabled. He can be somewhat slow, as his prosthtics are heavier than their fleshy counter parts
Spells:
Energy channelling: Brandon can use his inner energy to empower any mechanical or magical device, provided he has the required amount in his system. If he over uses this inner energy, he drops off into a deep coma-like sleep. This energy can also be infused into people for healing effects, but this takes a great toll on Brandon's reserves.
Touch of the engineer: Brandon can channel his energy to make machines repair themselves, "regrowing" lost bits of machinery. The change is obvious, the canges looking like metal scar tissue. He can also, by touching any mundane machine, make it perform its services. He could, for instance, make a Soda automat drop a can without depositing money, but he could not fool a computer into thinking that he had typed in the correct password. He can alose use this ability to "map" the design of any device he touches, sending his energy throuhgout the device in a way similar to the way a bat uses sonar to map its sorroundings. This will allow him to create his own version of the device later on, if he has all the required resources at hand
Analysis: By kicking his logical circuits into override, Brandon can temporarely increase his thinking, learning and understanding capabilities greatly. Side effect is slightly similar to ADHD, he is unable to distinguish between important and unimportant sense-based stimuli, simply absorbing it all and becoming somewhat hyper-active. This ability can also be used effectively during the creation of a new object, as his mind floods with possibilities and inspiration. If used for too long it causes his neural circuits t ooverheat, which can result in a short circuit and permanent damage.
Bolt of agony: Brandon can channel his inner energy through a purifiyng device incorporated in his arm. This unleashes a medium-strength ranged attack that has a good accuracy. The damage done is mainly electrical and it is fairly damaging, but nothing unusual. Note: Does not damage his system like the chaos bolt
Chaos bolt: Brandon can unleash his energy while it is still impure, resulting in a powerful blast of raw energy. The attack is very inaccurate, and he has to be fairly close to his target to be sure it hits. This release of impure energy damages his bio-technical body, and can, if used frequently, result in great damage to his body, in the shape of burns and short circuits.
Weapons/Gear:
Claws: Each of his fingers have a claw in their tips. These claws are an inch long, razor sharp and fully prutrudeable and retracable. They react on a thought-based command from Brandon.
Wristblades: In each of Brandon's arms is a sword-like blade that he can use much like his claws. Each blade is about a foot long. The blades are double edged, extremely sharp and very durable. They are composed of a negating metal that he can use to defend himself against the spells of other magic users. Note: He cannot use any of his other powers while the blades are protruded, due to their nullifiyng attributes
Laser: In his right arm, Brandon his a small laser cannon implanted. This is best used as a cutting tool, but it can be used in combat if neccesary. It will cause little harm, superficial burns, but if it hits soft tissue, such as the eyes, it can cause lasting damage. It is very inaccurate against moving targets, however.
Catalyst gun: This weapon is one of Tech's more recent projects, one has pieced together from various parts of scrap scavenged and bargained for from all over Babylos. The catalyst shotgun got its name because of its special ability, acts as a catalyst for Tech's raw power, drwaing it out of his body and manifesting it into semi-solid projectiles that evaporate after impact, leaving no mundane means of identifying his weapon. He can modify the strngth of the weapon by thought, to fight more effeciently both at far and close range. For very long range, he carries a sniper scope.
