Appearance: As a human/fairy hybrid, Malix is human-sized, but carries some characteristics of fairies, including a pair of slightly luminous, retractable wings. Hers are a shade of violent magenta. Malix favors baggy jeans and tank-tops, and is known to add a sweatshirt on cold days. Her hair is shoulder length and is golden blonde in color. Malix has steely grey eyes. She also wears fingerless sports gloves for that extra bit of grip as well as to hide the strange magical symbols and patterns that are apparently branded into her palms. Plain work boots and a sturdy leather belt are often part of her daily wear. Beneath each of her eyes is a vaguely trangular scar: a token reminder of her days as an experimental subject. Finally, she sometimes wears a classy grey fedora to complete the ensemble.
Background/History: Malix's life began in pain and tragedy. A group of twisted scientists bent on conducting interspecies genetic experimentation successfully fused the DNA of a fairy with that of a human to create a hybrid human/fairy: Malix. They didn't stop with mere genetic fusion. No, she was also bred for magical ability and physical prowess. Malix never knew the love of a parent, and was looked after by (and experimented on by) these scientists and their staff. Their identities are unknown to Malix even to this very day. All she remembers of that time is coldness and pain, and a desire for freedom.
Indeed, as soon as she got the chance, Malix escaped the facility at age 6 and wandered here and there. Lost, alone, helpless, and non-human, Malix had a hard time ahead of her, and would spend a few years fending for herself on the streets. Eventually, a charity agency placed her in a foster program, but she seldom remained with the same foster family: things would never quite work out. Still, during this transient period, Malix became formally educated and excelled at the arts. She never made any really good friends though; who would want to play with the weird new girl anyway.
Of course, a magic-capable person cannot remain invisible beneath the Academy's eyes forever, especially as the genetic anomaly that Malix is. She was practically pressganged into the Academy's student body. Though skeptical and none too enthusiastic about the possibility of being looked at as a test subject again, she sees this new path as an opportunity. After a couple years of preliminary training, she is finally at the stage where she can attend the Academy proper for some old-school magical instruction.
Personality: Malix treats everyone in a civil fashion, but is sometimes reluctant to open up to other people, due to rejection and mistreatment she's had to deal with in the past. She is non-judgemental and open-minded. Malix is street-smart and a survivor, and is therefore very strong-willed. She has a good sense of humor, but it seldom surfaces. She is always honest and forthcoming in hopes that others will be as such too.
Style: Summoning/Symbology. Malix has circles of symbology seemingly branded or tatooed in the palms of her hands. By channeling through the symbols in the correct fashion, she can summon a variety of things.
Spells:
)) Summon Maze. Costs about a third of her energy. Malix places her hands on the ground and utters a spell while running mana through her hand-symbols, and a vast, twisting and turning maze rises up from the ground. Walls are 20 feet high. Depending on elements used, walls can be fire, stone, sand, water, ice, plants, or solid air (invisible).
)) Summon Environment. Malix summons a smallish area (circular, radius of 50 feet maximum, variable height) of an environment. She has to have been there before in order to summon anything more complicated than a stereotypical representation of a climate and region. Note: If she summons an underwater environment, water does not spill outward but remains contained in the radius, as if in a tank, but can be stepped in/out of.
)) Summon Object. Malix summons any object. Obviously, this includes weapons, but she only has formal training in the use of dual swords. Spell costs less or more depending on whether she can accurately picture the object or has seen or touched what she is going to summon. Easiest objects to summon are those she has used her "Summon Null Space" spell on (see below).
)) Summon Null Space. Difficult spell that wears down about half her magical capacity when casting. The spell's result must be held within a foot of the target to have any effect. Malix summons an infinitely tiny point of null space, which acts very much like a black hole in that it sucks matter and energy into itself, and anything sucked in goes into the gap between dimensions, where it will float in stasis until Malix summons it. It floats above one hand, and Malix can move it about and use it for a variety of things: digging tunnels/breaking through stuff, catching spells. etc.
Strengths: Malix can fly quite well on her own wings. She is extremely speedy both on the ground and in the air. Decent stamina and energy are a plus.
Weaknesses: Lacks the brute strength of bulkier combatants. Her spellcasting tends to wear through her magical energy quickly.
