Once a man was looking up at the skies.
When suddenly an urge did arise,
he pledged to the gods and to demons as well,
He didn't care if he got aid by heaven or hell.
"Oh, you mightiest of all,"
the man said, and on his knees did fall,
"I have read books of forgotten lore,
I have all their power, but want more."
"I want a bride and a crown on my head,
and that all my enemies would be dead.
Give me a power to do that, I plea!
Let those who oppose me see."
"That I am the one who is the greatest of men,
I would become their king there and then."
The man gave out a shout, with might did he yell:
"I will obey you, my soul even sell!"
The demons and gods did look down upon him.
Some felt sorry for him, others were grim.
But one of the gods, accepted his plead.
"I have heard, and will give you the army you need."
So said the god that ends life,
and he gave the man a magical knife.
"With this you shall have power to controll all men.
But if it draws blood your soul will be mine, there and then."
With that he left the man on the field.
He conquered quickly, many would yield.
And those who opposed him would die in wain,
because in his path was destruction and pain.
Many heroes would against him stand,
but it's hard to slay those who've conquered a land.
One by one the heroes would fall,
into his army he put them all.
But as he grew older his body would fumble,
and down through the stairs he would one day tumble.
The time for the knife to draw blood was here,
he landed on it, just then and there.
The deathgod claimed his soul as promised,
and with their master gone the undead vanished.
But of the knife noone found a clue,
maybe it was taken, something a thief would do.
All that is known is that the deal,
still is in effect, with blood as its seal.
So if you would find it and pick it up some time,
your end has been settled, just as mine.
For I who wright this found it one day,
it's here in my belt, waiting for the reaper to say:
"The deal has been finished, the devil's waiting in hell."
That, dear reader was all I needed to tell.
So go now, and search for the knife,
if you value riches over your life.
Maybe you'll listen and maybe you won't,
all I can tell you is "Don't!"
I don't expect this to get much good feedback since it's my first try to write something like this.
I got the inspiration from something I read in the rulebook to a game.
