This is an editorial I wrote almost 2 years ago. My inspiration behind this article was mainly from what I saw and experienced. Basically a culmination of things I was active in.
From 03-late '04, I worked as a substitute teacher. I got a good glimpse of the politics of the US education system. Working a stressful job like that, you get a damn good glimpse into the system.
Around Spring '04, I took a class on publications. Meaning, I was with the college newspaper. It was pretty convenient since '04 was election year. In only 5 months, I got to learn a damn lot on how the media works. It was a small class, so we got more personal time with the professor who's also a journalist.
In addition, there were the barrage of hurricanes that same year. I got hit by Charley, Francis, and Jeanne. Jeanne was a major doozy.
I hardly got calls into work since the teachers had to make up for lost class time. For almost a month until election night, I worked for the County Democratic Party working the Kerry Campaign from the town I live in to Tampa. That was a pretty interesting experience.
And then there were all those events taking place in 05 that got my attention. The culmination of all those things inspired me to write this article.
Before reading this, try to answer these questions. What is a NeoCon? Is this deja-vu? Are they looking out for our best interests or their own self-interests? The answer to the first question is that a NeoCon is defined as a "new-age" Conservative. Today it's something new. However, it would be a different story if this was the late 18th century. The first question has two answers. First answer is a new-age Conservative or the modern-day Conservative. Second answer is a Federalist in disguise. To understand a Federalist, figuratively one must take a trip back through time.
To the point of the John Adams presidency. NeoCons claim to be Republicans, but they're not really Republicans at all. They're just Federalists parading as Republicans. Similar to a wolf in sheep's clothing. Under John Adams, it was the Federalist Era. Federalists and Republicans were the first two parties. The prototype for future US political parties.
Leader of the Federalists was the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton. While the Democratic-Republicans were led by the third United States President, Thomas Jefferson. This started after the Constitutional Convention of 1787. That was the start of the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. Federalists were in favor of the Constitution while the other party were alarmed with good reason that the central government would have too much power.
Spider-Man's Uncle Ben quoted, "with great power comes great responsibility." When the Constitution was ratified, the Anti-Federalists were backed up against the wall. Scared of charges of treason, being unpatriotic, and Anti-American. This is something we see today. You hear the news on how this country has been brought back fifty years. But, we've been brought back almost two-hundred years.
Same thing is happening today. For example, the Republican Party or the GOP has control of most of the United States Government. My history professor told us that if one party controls at least two of the three branches of government that it is a tyranny. All I can say that he's right. This is a tyranny. When the Federalists were in power, they said that their party and their views were absolute. That if anybody spoke out against or disagreed with Federalist views would be considered treasonous.
Currently, the GOP controls the Executive and Legislative branches of the United States Government.
Same thing is happening today. NeoCons think their party is the absolute party. For example the post-War in Iraq. It's not a war in Iraq right now. Ironically more people are getting killed after the war than during. But GW dubs it as the "War on Terror." For example Cindy Sheehan who is currently camped outside the GW's ranch at Crawford, Texas protesting the war is deemed to the NeoCons as a traitor and an Anti-American.
On a side note, it's pretty ironic yet funny about that situation. Cindy Sheehan asks only for a moment of Bush's time out of his one month vacation. Yet, he refuses. He speaks out about how they're going to win this war. But, he decides to fly out to Idaho and Utah for a press conference to address the war supporters. Yet, he doesn't talk to Cindy Sheehan who along with many others were camped outside the premises. Is there something wrong with that picture?
NeoCons are a minority but they are pretty vocal. Watching the news and reading the newspapers one could see the psycho-babble that they spew. On forums, blogs, newspapers, and other mediums of free speech the NeoCons are using any word at their disposal such as Leftist Liberal, anti-American sympathizer, Communist, anti-Capitalist, Freedom Haters, Terrorist Sympathizers, Traitors, and so forth. They're pretty damn good at scare tactics and have been for the last 7-8 years so far. Perceived to be like the Federalists, they believe that only the rich should be protected.
We really can't be deemed as anti-Capitalist nor Communists. Capitalism is all around. Communism itself is a paradox. Marx was against Capitalism but firmly believed in entrepreneurship. But Marx made one very fatal mistake, Capitalism and entrepreneurship go hand and hand. You can't have one without the others. NeoCons think they own the theme or think they're the arbiters of Capitalism. But they're not. Anybody can be a Capitalist and not be part of the Republican party.
NeoCons only talk about fiscal/economic Capitalism. But why don't they talk about Capitalism as a social system or as a philosophy? Those two compliment the fiscal part of Capitalism. NeoCons know that the world of Capitalism is a "dog-eat-dog" world. They're scared that the more people are educated in Capitalism, they'll lose power. The NeoCons better be scared. Sooner or later, karma's going to bite them in the ass.
This isn't really different from what happened to the United States after the "XYZ Affair," with the French Government. Federalists manage to consolidate their power. So far with what's going on in the world today, the NeoCons have consolidated their power ten fold. It does not matter what the polls say about the drop of GW Bush's approval rating.
Republicans felt that the rights of the farmers and other little people needed to be protected as well. Plus, a true Republican a.k.a. Jeffersonian Republican believes in less central government control and believes more in States' rights. In miniature, more into rights of an individual. Republicans are not fans of "Big Government." But this too is a paradox due to the fact that the NeoCons are pressing for more government control on the little people while loosening stuff for the economic-elite.
NeoCons are mostly comprised of religious fanatics. Mainly ones who are White Anglo-Saxon Protestants in particular. Doesn't mean everybody that's a NeoCon is a W.A.S.P. There are plenty that can be African-American if they're high on the economic scale. Or if they're Cuban-American. But NeoCons are mainly Protestants. Some prime examples include Pat Robertson, Jeri Falwell, and Randall Terry. A most notable NeoCon is the book author known as Ann Coulter who is dubbed the right-winged counter part to Michael Moore. When Moore created “Fahrenheit 9/11,” she make a counter film known as “Fahrenhype 9/11.”
Falwell and Robertson believe that the United States owns the world. Then they believe that their brand of Evangelical Christianity is the absolute religion in the world and everybody else is wrong. Like other NeoCons, they're just a bunch of bullies. Falwell and Robertson also believe that everything that takes place in the country is the church's business. Terrifying thing is that most of Pat Robertson's people have control of the Republicans that are in office. Falwell and Robertson both believe they need to "Evangelicize" the world.
People like Robertson and Falwell pervert and bastardize Christianity.
One current example is the current President of Venezuela. He said he wouldn't give in to the United States. Recently Pat Robertson called for an assassination of Chavez a week ago. Caused the United States Government to distance themselves from Pat Robertson on that. He's one of the worst NeoCons in this country.
Like the Federalists, the NeoCons are a bunch of right-wing lunatics. One of the obvious worst NeoCon fanatics is Fox News' Bill O'Reilly of the "O'Reilly Factor." Him along with many other hosts had made Fox News into a biased and pro-NeoCon news channel. Keith Oberman of MSNBC always has a lot of nasty things to say about Bill O'Reilly and with good reason.
O'Reilly said that the way that Cindy Sheehan is behaving about this "war" is on the lines of treason. She's exercising her First Amendment rights. What the hell is treasonous about that? He's the one that's treasonous. Besides, it's a peaceful protest. What's so treasonous about a peaceful anti-war protest. Being a “patriot” doesn't mean you blindly follow the leader.
War's over in Iraq. Then Bush calls for a "War on Terror." What kind of war is that? Fighting terror? You can't fight terror; but, you can fight terrorists. Big difference. What most people don't get about the Iraq War is that it's over. That was in 2003. Now it's 2005. Pretty damn ironic, more people getting killed after the war than during the war. Plus there really wasn't any terrorist activity in Iraq at all. Now with what's going on, plenty of terrorism.
War on terror; terror is an intangible enemy. You have to learn that hatred and resentment breeds terrorists. As long as there is an ounce of hatred in the world, there will always be terrorists. That is something that will remain a constant until all humans are wiped out from the face of this earth.
What's with going on in Iraq, it's interesting to read how the NeoCons are so gung-ho and psyched for war. Yet, they don't want to go out to the front lines nor have their kids do it. They just want to sit back and have other people fight for them. Sadly, it's working. No need to explain it. Just look around you. Watch the news and/or read the newspaper. Just avoid Fox News since it's the most biased American news network out there.
For all those NeoCons, if you're so supportive of the war, why don't you enlist and go out? Either put up or shut the hell up... If you people feel that this is worthy enough, then prove it by putting your own lives on the line rather than just let others do it for you. Take the damn initiative. A true Republican would take the initiative. That is what separates a Republican and a NeoCon. NeoCons not enlisting and discouraging their own for enlisting is one of the problems talked about on the news that gives reasons explaining the difficulty of the United States Military seeking recruits.
All you have to do is look around you, just don't look at what's in front of you because it's just in front of you. NeoCons such as the pro-war supporters making their counter-rally at Crawford, TX across the road from where Cindy Sheehan and many others are making their anti-war protests. They're quick to support the war. But when push comes to shove, they sit on the sidelines waving their pom-poms like a bunch of cheerleaders with too much air in their heads.
Take a look at the Washington Post editorial by Terry M. Neal titled, "Questioning Bush's Sacrifice for a 'Noble Cause." Posted Thursday, September 1st, 2005, at 10:18 A.M.
Neal talked about this website with an editorial that explains that not one of of GW's daughters, neices, nor nephews had volunteered for their services. Hopefully the petition being circulated by Buzzflash will make waves. The more people that know about it, the more potent it will be. I like the catch phrase. "Either the Bush Kids Put Their Lives on the Line for George's 'Noble War' or the Troops Come Home."
Read his editorial. Read the answers these NeoCons are just spewing. They want to hide the fact so badly from the public eye that they are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites.
Just like the Federalists, these NeoCons will be quick to attack anybody that disagrees with them on any subject. One hot topic recently a few months back was the Terri Schiavo incident with the removal of her feeding tube. This was something that went on for months since '03. Courts ruled to have the feeding tube removed while right-winged activists groups filed to have the feeding tube reinserted. Schaivo's parents were very desperate to a point where they enlisted the help of Randall Terry. I can understand not wanting their daughter to die. But damn, Randall Terry?
It's American to think of all human life is prescious. But, the NeoCons just took this way too far. They went ahead and made Terri Schaivo a martyr for their own political gain.
You need to take a look at Randall Terry's track record. He implied that these anti-American traitors would get shot if he had it his way. That's very un-American. That is something that the Chinese government would do. If you speak out against the government in China, your ass will get hauled off to prison because you're deemed a "threat" to national security. NeoCons are like that, too. What's the difference?
Those religious fanatics were getting in on it, too. They tried to get government intervention to force their views and ideologies on other people. For example, Baye Buchanan on "CNN's Inside Politics" said that all these Liberal judges need to be replaced by ones whom are Conservative. Even Conservative judges kept the feeding tube removed. Baye Buchanan said that they were wrong. Like a typical NeoCon, they think they're always right.
Another hot topic for last year's elections were gay-marriage. NeoCons especially right-winged religious fanatics didn't like that part. They urged the President to pass a law that prohibits gay-marriage. This is something that shouldn't be put on debate. A true Republican would support gay-marriage but a Federalist wouldn't. Who's really the ones supporting Big Government? NeoCons support Big Government because it benefits them greatly. They really don't care what happens to everybody else.
There is also the factor on abortion rights. Right-winged religious fanatics managed to bring that on the table as well. Religious fanatics and NeoCons tend to be in the same group. Since NeoCons believe their ideals are absolute and no one must speak out against them or be branded as a traitor. Religious fanatics can add in their ideologies and force them upon other people.
In reality, NeoCons are the one's being anti-American and unpatriotic. They're just using the media into saying that people who go against their views are being anti-American and unpatriotic. The reason people like Cindy Sheehan are speaking out because they are the real patriots and American citizens. They have every right to question the government in what it is doing. No matter which party is in power.
NeoCons are also no different than Nazis nor the Communists under Joseph Stalin. Nazis ruined the lives of people who spoke out against them. In the U.S.S.R, Stalin would've had those same people executed. If you read history, Stalin killed more people than Hitler did. What these people forget to realize that the United States is deemed the great "Melting Pot." People from different countries with different views, religions, and ideas melt together. But NeoCons don't see it that way. They feel that their views and ideologies are absolute.
Go to "http://www.progress.org/2003/america1.htm" and look at the Progress Report. Shows a list of American values. NeoCons are quick to use the terms of anti-American and unpatriotic without much use of the definition. They talk about "preserving" American values. What exactly are what you call American values?
Few examples is that one American characteristic os that: "Holds the U.S. government to high standards of ethics, openness, and fairness. When the government fails to meet these standards, criticize it in order to bring the mistakes forward so that they may be corrected." This is simply one point that Cindy Sheehan is getting across. She wants to know why her son died out in Iraq. NeoCons preach the opposite just like the Federalists back in the day: "Feels anxious when hearing criticism of the U.S. government, and feels worried that criticism will weaken it."
Whoopdee do... This is no different than Stalin in the U.S.S.R or the Nazis in Gemany during World War II. No different from some of the Communist regimes in South America or the Chinese Government. Criticizing the government is a form of free speech. NeoCons are the ones who are infringing on our First Amendment rights. For example the Bush and pro-war supports are pretty much anxious with the rallying of anti-war protesters. They claim that they are weakening the morale of the troops and the country.
We have the right to criticize the Bush Administration for the 9/11 report. There was no link between Iraq and Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaida Terrorist Network. None at all. Bush and the NeoCons still say that the Iraq War was still justified. There were no WMDs in Iraq either. Even Former Secretary of State Colin Powell confirmed that there were none in Iraq. Look at the CIA leak story a few months back. This was all under GW's watch. These are examples of some very big blunders.
From 03-late '04, I worked as a substitute teacher. I got a good glimpse of the politics of the US education system. Working a stressful job like that, you get a damn good glimpse into the system.

Truth about Neo-Conservatives: Nothing New About Them
Before reading this, try to answer these questions. What is a NeoCon? Is this deja-vu? Are they looking out for our best interests or their own self-interests?
