Winds of Vengeance is the new kid on the block as far as Romance of the Three Kingdoms RP sites go, but is a gathering point for people of vast talent in the community. It's opening day there, and already we've got roughly 30 members. There is no magic there, at least not the way you guys think of it here. Only a few people are able to wield it, and those people usually have items or incredibly high stats that allow such things. Most of what can be considered "magic" on WoV is actually foresight and anticipating your enemies' moves. Briefly, here are a few features of WoV: - Choose from onee of over 605 historical figures, or create your own officer and carve out your niche in the world! - Choose from one of several Lieges and join their cause and do battle to decide the fate of China! Or start your faction and wage war for supremacy over a divided land! - Forge friendships, rivalries, or oaths of brotherhood with others. With the sheer size of the playing field, and number of potential players, there is no shortage of activities to join in on, no shortage of heads to take, and no shortage of battles to fight in! - CUSTOMIZE your own army from an extensive library of historical armaments, both European and Chinese in origin. This allows you to have your very own personalized gang of thugs, or a disciplined force bent on the destruction of your enemies! - The possibilities are near infinite! JOIN NOW!

Yes, I know, yet another shameless bump. Some of you no doubt will hate me for it, but I haven't come here just to spout the same old bullshit I usually do. Instead, I have for you a rare treat, here is an excerpt from the thread at the battlefield of Qingzhou. The following posts are written by Lyle, and myself. And will be displayed in an alternating fashion. First will be my post, colored blue, then will come Lyle's, colored in Cyan. Not long after Cao Cao's vigorous charge onto the field, he slowed down to a trot before stopping all together waiting for his troops to catch up. He was approximately 800 yards from the walls of Qing. Well outside the range of any bows or javelins. The charge wasn't a serious attack, so much as it was a tool to keep the spirits of both his troops and officers high. He looked over his shoulders and watched as his troops emulated his charge out onto the battle field. They stayed in formation, holding the spear points high, and their swords ready. He saw both Sun Shao and Dian Wei close by, and the raggedy troops of Sek Gariom advancing away from the main body.
One thing in particular caught his eye, there was a chariot speeding toward him. He turned his horse about and held his blade ready to fight, as he did not recognize them. However, once they had advanced within ear shot of Mengde, he heard their message for him. He lowered hid blade in relief and turned his horse about once more before speaking: "I see. Lord Deng Ai has joined Xu Huang's expedition. Tell the Generals that I wish them luck against the Scarves there. Hopefully with Lord Deng Ai among them, the battle will end that much faster." He looked on as they proffered up Lord Deng Ai's gifts for Mengde. "Gentlemen please; While I do appreciate the notion, I must humbly decline accepting such gifts for the moment. If you would return to Deng Ai with them, so that they may be presented to me at a more opportune time, I'd be very grateful." He then dismissed the messengers.
Turning to Sun Shao he said, "Take your soldiers around the south end of the castle. Attempt to gain entrance by destroying the gate. If they are on the ramparts, do not waste time and troops by attempting to fight them. If they open the gate and offer battle, signal to me with smoke, and I will mobilize troops to assist you in breaking them." Then he turned to Dian Wei and issued similar orders, "Marshal your troops to the aid of our mysterious allies moving along the river. Inform them that you are both to travel to the east gate and attempt to gain entrance. Again, should the enemy be upon the walls, do not fight them. And like Sun Shao's orders, should the enemy offer battle, signal to me with smoke."
He then looked off to another set of hills to the south of Qing. There were additional banners waving there, and what seemed to be another battalion of soldiers. Though they did not look like Scarves, he was still cautious, and somewhat tense at the arrival of yet another unidentified unit. His army finally caught up to him, and they stopped behind him, still formation. The troops were panting some what, it was a tough march, but now his presence on the field was now firmly established. He signaled to a group of ten horsemen from the left section of his formation, and they rallied to him. "You ten are to accompany me to that position over there," and he paused to point with his blade toward Zhuge Jin's army, "once there, I will attempt to secure their aid against the scarves. At the first sign of trouble, alert me with a loud cry, and we shall ride off toward the rest of our army. Understood?" The horsemen all nodded at their Lord's orders. Cao Cao then turned to the rest of his army. "The rest of you are to remain here, and be on the look out for the enemy! Should they attempt to charge your position here, hold your ground and repulse them! If they try to lure you in, do not take their bait!"
He then turned around again, and with his escort he rode toward Zhuge Jin. "Hopefully they're not hostile... Oh well, what would life be without risks?" He sighed and continued riding toward the southern hills.Zhang Zhao Lu stirred as Cao Cao approached instead of the enemy commander.. He shuddered, the Chu lord looking offly odd and like the true blood lusting fool he was. He'd never voice such opinions aloud, before all, though Zhuge Jin could sense them from a mile away. Jin waved them off as he held his sword firmly at his lap, his horse moving forward slightly as a Du Jung moved his horse further, meeting the group five paces out from Zhuge Jin, who smiled carelessly. His voice was quite calm, though it was clear he never truly understood Cao Cao nor cared for his ideals and the way he handled things, he'd only just heard of a massacre at Pu Yang. He frowned when thinking of the recent turn of events, though his voice was still calm.
"Lord Cao Cao, I presume? I am Zhuge Jin, brother to Zhuge Liang and Zhuge Jun. I've found my way here after fleeing from Chang An with my group of soldiers.. It is most unfortunate I find battle here, when I suspected so much more... peace evident here. True that these turbans deserve what they're getting, but not so much by the tip of a sword. They are a broken people, no... Lord Cao Cao?"

As Cao Cao approached, Zhuge Jin looked strangely calm, almost as if he had anticipated Cao Cao's arrival and intent. He was taken aback at how Zhuge Jin had guessed at his identity. But it really wasn't all that surprising, Cao Cao was after all somewhat of a celebrity in these lands. There was no mistaking it, this man truly was the famed Sleeping Dragon's brother!
Cao Cao gave off a slight smile as Zhuge Jin introduced himself. But he quickly returned to his usual stern demeanor as Zhuge Jin then told Cao Cao of his flight from Chang An. He then grimaced as Zhuge Jin said that the Turbans needn't be fought here today. But he regained his composure, and addressed Zhuge Jin's question as it deserved to be, though he couldn't guarantee that he'd be able to keep it for long.
"You've guessed correctly, Zhuge Jin. I am Cao Cao, Lord of Pu Yang, and soon to be Qing as well." He paused briefly, trying to keep himself from spewing insults forth at Zhuge Jin, but it was not evident in his face or manner. "The Turbans do deserve what they're getting here. And they do deserve it by the sword. They are hardly broken, especially when they still show the coordination to brake the backs of the peasantry of Qing for their own gain. I cannot see why a man such as yourself would claim otherwise, and then show up in arms, much less with an army. I would call you hypocrite, if not for the fact that I am merely a guest here."
Zhang Zhao Lu swayed his horse around, speaking several words to a cavalry commander near him. He then rushed off somewhere, unknown to any of those at the front of the army. Du Jung raised his blade slightly as he kicked his horse gently, sending the animal a few steps forward, closing much of the distance between Cao Cao and his lord. Zhuge Jin was still quite calm, though clearly ready to lose his nerve. He knew that Cao Cao was bold to speak such way in the company of one such as himself, who's troops could easily destroy the arrogant lord..
"The fool grows bold and dares talk down to one who will forever be known in history as enlightened? It is no secret you are a weak man at heart Cao Cao. Your lines are divided, your own heart, body and soul are divided into sections. Flaunting greatness like you do, thinking the heavens themselves part the clouds for you.. When the day comes, your head will roll across the field like the innocent ones that will today, after your wrath has been felt."
Cao Cao looked on as one of Zhuge Jin's soldiers, a slightly larger and stronger looking man spoke to a horsemen. They soon rode off. Cao Cao thought it strange that they would leave like that, but he would pay it no more mind than that. He needn't concern himself with the politics of Zhuge Jin's force any more than he needed to.
Then another man, also on horse back and looking to be an officer drew his blade and pointed it menacingly at Cao Cao. He then trotted up to Mengde and stopped. Cao Cao's escort attempted to raise their weapons at the man, but before they could, Cao Cao signaled them to stand down.
"Enlightened, hmm? Tell me, was Zhang Jue and his brothers not 'enlightened' when they rose in rebellion against the Han? Forever destabilizing the land and ushering the deaths of many at the hands of their fanatical followers? Are you no different? I know full well the dangers of the path I have chosen. And it would be no surprise to me if I were to die in the field at the hands of what ever foe I was to be facing. But, if you do issue me a challenge, then know that it will not go unanswered! If you seek to end my life here, then do it fool! Or else, stop wagging your blade around like a dog does wag his tail in front of his master! You curse'd lap dog, you!"

A bow raised, the other warrior here again, he pointed it firmly toward Cao Cao, his mind and body one as he prepared to let loose.. Zhuge Jin was angry now, speaking harshly to Cao Cao as he lost his composure.
"Never before has the impudence of society shown so clearly before me. Men like you deserve to die with the pigs, or be cast away in a ditch for eternity. To hell with you Cao Cao, I will stand no longer to the injustice of this land. I shall come for your head one day, when I know I will get a fair battle. For now, I leave you with this parting gift!"
The strength, the power, the energy. A man who'd fought for over twenty years, learned how to use a bow for sixteen shot the arrow forth upon horse back, twenty paces from Cao Cao. The wound would burn.. Sting forever when the fool walked toward his destiny, and forever cause the general to remember that his ignorance he so dwelled in would be the death of him, one day. The arrow would not miss. From such a distance, with such quick speed. Cao Cao was only so lucky..
A second later the entire lot was gone, rushing across the land to find a lord that was not such a fool.
Cao Cao sat atop his horse, ready to fight and kill the ruffian who had him at sword point when Zhuge Jin shot his own mouth off at him. And then suddenly, an arrow came from out of nowhere. Cao Cao batted the arrow down and to the right with the flat of his blade just in time, and averted what would've been a fatal blow to his chest. The arrow instead flew straight into his left leg, firmly implanting itself in his thigh. He growled momentarily, and filled with anger ripped the arrow from his leg, wincing as he did so. Blood ran freely from the rent flesh. It was no where near fatal, but it did cause him pain. He looked back up just in time to catch Zhuge Jin's final statement and see them leave heading back south. He then looked at the bloodied arrow. It was symbolic of the contempt Zhuge Jin now had for him. Cao Cao deduced that such a action would not have been taken if he had not been right in some fashion.
"Go now, Zhuge Jin! Run away from the truth! Run until you're in the safe embrace of which ever idiot decides to appoint you position! You damnable cur! Take your lap dogs with you!" He yelled out after them. He then lowered his voice and turned to his stunned escort. He spurred his horse and bade his escort to follow him back to his formation. He spoke out to the air, directing his words to no one in particular, but it was clear who these verbal arrows were meant for. "You can run all you want Zhuge Jin. But it will not save you and your kin from your fate. You will die by my hand, you, and every man you command. His still shocked escort could only look on in sheer horror of their Lord's resolve. They could tell by the look on his face, that what he said would not just turn out be another baseless boast.
He and his escort returned to the site where he had left his unit not long after disembarking from the southern hill tops. One of his Lieutenants ripped part of his uniform and immediately offered it to Mengde as a bandage once he had seen his Liege's wound. Cao Cao accepted the gift, and tied the cloth about his leg tight enough to stop the bleeding. The very same Lieutenant had known of Cao Cao's wish to fight in the front lines alongside his troops, and suggested that he should stay back. Mengde scoffed at this.
"Though Zhuge Jin's contempt may burn for the moment, it will not keep me from taking many a life here today at Qing! Of this, I can assure you!" He held the arrow tightly in hand, and slide it into a pouch on Lightning Runner's saddle. He would keep this arrow, and when the time came, he would kill Zhuge Jin with his own ill-harbored contempt.
