Shop class? Not quite. More like specialized studies. As a craftsman rather than a true fighter, he got to spend time in a testing lab, working on whatever his twisted little mind could come up with. Okay, maybe not twisted, but he did have a mind capable of destroying as much as he could create. And the sound track blasting through the whole shop was certainly geared towards the destructive side. After all, with "Du Hast" going on, most people were a little more tempted to break something.
Ezra was quite ready to try his hardest to break something to little tiny pieces. But if his studies were going well, he'd fail to crush his studies into a pile of fragmented chips and shavings. The kite-shaped chunk of dense metal in front of him was his test subject. It was an odd mix of titanium and magically created diamond. Magic diamonds were fleeting at best, but with his permanency spell, Ezra could keep the diamonds stable enough for use. But he couldn't sell them for any more than he could sell lead, because the magical aura gave away the stroy of how they were created. besides, they were legally only to be used for non-commercial purposes.
With the diamonds fully synthesized into the titanium, he set up the shield-like object on a sort of analyzing plate. It fed data directly from tests to his shop computer, and into his mage deck. So far, it read stable and ready for testing.
Now it was set up facing Ezra, seeming to float on nothing. Picking up a seven-foot long pipe of metal, he backed away behind a safety screen. Kneeling down and hefting the pipe up onto his shoulder, Ezra pointed the end of it right at the shield. Taking hold of a small trigger mechanism, he quickly pulled hard on it when the pipe was pointed right.
BOOM!
Red flames and black smoke filled the air for only a moment, as the ventilation system quickly took out the thick smoke, and revealed the damage. The analysis turned up nothing more than superficial burns and an increase in temperature, nothing less than what he hoped for. So, he shot it again. Same results.
"Great. Zeke will just love his new buddy."
