Climbing into a tall tree, up to the highest possible limb and standing until she stood exact;y three feet over the top of the tree, she stared at the early morning sky.
Having left the school dorm around two a.m. and hiding the amulet among some underbrush near the school, for easy recovery and so she could have a few hours where she was herself again- it was about three thirty in the morning now. No sane person, unless duty bound or simply an insomiac would have dark to be awake now- however she was neither insane or an insomniac, she had slept well enough but had wanted to not feel so tired even after resting for nearly two days of nothing but sleep.
She had left a note on a door for whoever cared, simply saying she had left for some fresh air. She doubted they would be able to read her terrible handwriting but who knew? She closed her eyes and raised her hands to the sky as the golden-peach glory streak the starry sky, making it dissapear faster than her life on the farm had.
She smiled softly and told the sky, told her mother and father, "I am well and safe. I saw the storm you sent. I will be wary, do not worry. I have a pet now- I named him Yahto. That's right, after the beta you had, Momma'. I didn't pick him though- he chose me. I guess he's not scared like everyone else gets. It's nice, but then so are the people I'm stayin' with. Mr Long said they can help me learn to control the electricity better and- I really wish you guys could meet him 'cause I bet you'd've liked talking to him. He talks like you used to, Dadda'. And his grandson is gonna' help me find a place for the other four kittens- I guess I can't name them but I'm sure we'll find a good place for them. But- no more livin' outside, so I don't have to worry about being struck by lightning anymore unless I go out during one. Sure, being in the nuilding hurts my ears but it's not so much as to make me wanna' leave. A roof over my head is exactly what I needed- right? Well now I have it and I guess I can make them my new family but you guys are still the most important ones. I miss you guys- more than you could ever know. "
These words were spoken slowly- taking over two hours to complete, overhead the golden-peach had become a brilliant and clear blue- no stars remained and a gentle wind blew in white clouds. She slowly began her climb down, a branch broken under her foot and she fell.
A single electric tear slid down her face as she grabbed at branches desperatly, hoping to find a stable grip even as a shirll of fear escaped her throat. The branches she reached for tore her clothes and her skin, one branch scraped along her arm, tearing flesh open-
Someone, save me- I can't die. I'm not ready! I-
"NO!" she screamed, gripping a branch with all her strength and clinging tightly. Electrified tears streamed down her face and she pulled herself onto the branch and stayed still. Her arm was bleeding and she felt sick, laying on the fork of the brach she stared up at the sky through the branches and smiled weakly, "I'm alright, don't worry."
The clouds turned dark- and it began to rain. Closing her eyes, she shuttered hard, she was too hurt to move, every inch of her was bruised and scratched- she could feel warm blood trail from her eyebrow and from her arm. Her arm, she flexed her fingers, wasn't broken only thrashed, she could feel the huge gash going down it- she could also feel the electricty glowing over the wound to kill bacteria and ease the healing process- the electricity nummed her arm and the rest of her body.
With your name in my mind I say but this prayer, Father above heal me with all your care. I am but your loyal daughter, following along your path, within your spoken words I have found my light- if it be your will O Father save me from this plight laid before me. Give me the strength I need to live, help me along your path if I fail to live. In your name, O Father-
"Amen."
The last words slipped past her lips before darkness stole her into its arms and she found no reason to fight.
