The sun fell down in the courtyard today. Shinning ever brightly warming the Earth. Feeding the plants and the people alike each in turn feeding off one another. The circle of life going on all around yet no one really took the time to notice or appreciate the beauty that is nature. But today the sunlight feel upon something different. Something shinning made of metal reflecting the sunlight held aloft.
It was a flute. Her flute. Her name was Madelyn and it was in this sun drenched courtyard that she sat her back straight on the bench. Her platinum blonde hair fell down to her waist in long straight lengths. Her violet blue eyes closed her chest rising and falling as she concentrated on the song she was about to play.
She wore a skirt today of a dark black color the soft folds of fabric looked like a start contrast to her pale skin and the light blue button down collared shirt that went over her torso. She had no shoes on. No her tennis shoes sat to the side. She took a deep breath and began...
-Natures Melody- The song sang out of the growth and life that nature gave. The warm sunlight and the cool water of rain. The colors of thought were greens and yellows. She played to the leaves blowing in the breeze the way the breeze could cool you on a summer day. The way a summer day and warm grass went hand in hand. The way that the rainbows can soar across the sky like a magical sign that all can still be beautiful. She played to the wind to the animals the birds that serenaded the days and the crickets that sang at night.
She stopped playing and opened her eyes slowly and smiled brightly. She looked up at the trees and watched the leaves swaying feeling pretty happy at the moment. It was beautiful, this nature. So perfect the system. So precise.

As the last few notes faded away, something unusual happened. A cat, black as the moonlit sky with eyes green as any leaf from a tree, was found to be sitting next to the young girl, swaying slowly with the dieing notes. It slowly approached the girl, gently placing it’s front paws upon her leg, elevating it just enough to look into the face of the flutist. A strange sense of serenity could be felt from the animal, as one could almost swear it were smiling.
A few moments later, a deep and smooth voice broke the silence behind the two… “Emmy has very good taste in friends it would seem.” The voice belonged to none other than Keiya Tenpouin. A new arrival to the academy, but a man who seemed to hold a respectable presence about him non-the-less. Although for the most part he had seemed rather callous since arriving, he had a cheerful smile adorned upon his face at this time. He said no more however, curious as to what it was about the girl that had attracted Emmy in the first place.

The world had taken a turn for the young girl. Here she had not been hit or pushed. She had not been bruised or demeaned in fact the opposite as she found that she had made a friend and that she was already settling well into her life here. There were times where she wondered if this was where she should have been sent at such a young age but her gifts had not awakened for many long torturous years after that.
She felt a touch on her leg and looked down. A black cat with eyes brighter than the maple leaves in the spring fresh from the buds. She was beautiful. Madelyn smiled silently as she moved her hand gently forward and pet the cat on the head gently. Scratching behind her ears a little somehow an innate sense that the cat was female.
A voice. Male. Behind her and she was up backing away from him silently. Her flute in her hand now clasped hard as she looked at the man fear written into her every move every motion. Was he the one? Would he be the one that was going to hit her. To tell her she was worthless when she was only just beginning to live. Was he the one that would push her heart back into the ice covered shell it had just recently been saved from?
She swallowed. The cat she seemed to belong to him. The cat was nice she trusted the cat.. but him. Him he could hurt her. He was bigger than her. She was thin not too tall and scared. She stood watching his every move a scared rabbit in a corner as she watched.. watched.

A strange reaction indeed. Keiya had not expected the young girl to react as she had, and his eyebrow raised somewhat as he took in the girls full image. She was a very pretty young child, and Emerald seemed to have taken a liking to her and her song. Something the feline seldom did… Keiya was even more intrigued than he had been before, but he had not even taken a single advancing step before something happened that was sure to surprise the young girl… Emerald spoke.
“Keiya don’t… I can see it in her eyes… Her past… Men… She is terrified of you… The poor thing…” She then gracefully jumped from where she sat, and approached the girl once more. “It’s ok my dear… Keiya may be somewhat… Bold… But he is not the kind who would harm someone such as you” Gently, she rubbed her head against the girls shin and purred a little.
“You sure can pick em Emmy…” Keiya’s voice reverberated once more. In the second the girl’s attention had been drawn by Emeralds nuzzling, Keiya had transferred from standing behind the bench, to sitting casually on it, all while seemingly not moving at all. He grinned a little as Emerald rolled her eyes at the show off. “It’s ok. I don’t bite” He assured the girl, his sight falling upon the instrument she carried.

She watched in horror as he looked at her she didn't even know what to do. She was shaking litterally shaking at this new presence he had interupted the serenity of the place taken what she had. She had come out here for peace for quiet for alone time out in the warm sun. And this man had come to ruin it all. She swallowed. But then.. even more surprising and yet scarey too was the fact the cat spoke!
She took another step back. Who had talking cats? Wait.. umm.. no one that's who. Yet here was this man and his cat was litterally talking to him and he was.. obeying? This seriously confuesed the girl but now she was backed up to a tree and had no where to go. The cat came over and rubbed on her leg and Madelyn's eyes slid closed trying to keep her tears back. But there was something else that ran through her mind it was what the cat said. The touch... the feel of her furr against her skin something that was telling her that she still could trust the cat.
Her flute case. It sat next to the man but the most important part was with her. The flute it was in her hand still clutched tightly her knuckles and fingers white as they wrapped around it. She sat down right there right below the tree the cat still rubbing against her. Her violet blue eyes never leaving the man who now sat on the bench. She pulled her legs to the side and put her flute her hands still wrapped tightly around it as she placed them in her lap. She swallowed hard.
Could she trust him? Something like trust had to be earned, given, recieved. Not something that was gained automatically like for most. With Madelyn you had to earn it and only two people had. The entire Academy and there were two.

Even with the reassurance Emerald had tried to give the girl, she still seemed terrified of him. Keiya sighed, feeling somewhat defeated in this regard. “I guess it can’t be helped…” He said sitting back into his seat. However, as he did this, he noticed something that neither Emerald nor the young girl had seen. Just behind the tree that the girl now sat pressed against, a small arm… And due to his incredible perception, he recognized exactly what that arm’s intent was. It all happened as quick as lightning… A young girl of about 17 grabbed the flute the small girl held tight, and sent a small shock down the metallic object. The zap was just enough to cause her release her possession, but barely enough to hurt much longer than a moment. Running backwards, the girl stuck her tong out and pulled her bottom eyelid down in taunting. “Ha ha! Got your precious little flute!” This action seemed to shock the small girl beyond whatever Keiya had been doing. But suddenly, just as the other girl attempted to flee the scene, a barrier formed all around her. Each wall of this was an encircled red pentagram…
All eyes fell to Keiya, who held his arm through a pentagram, drawn in blood red and suspended mid air. His fist was clenched tight, and the prison held fast. The other girl just smirked. “Trying to trap me?” She laughed aloud at this, and suddenly, she struck out copious amounts of electricity, all of which struck the pentagrams, and struck them hard. As she did this, Keiya’s left arm came up to grab his right, as he steadied himself. Although she was striking his spell and not him, he seemed to be weakening slightly from it.
“Give back the flute…” He said with a determined look in his eyes… His right eye without its iris seeming to glisten in the sunlight. The girl stopped her assault, if only long enough to taunt him some more. However, the moment she did this, Emerald leapt through the air, passing seamlessly across the barrier, and grabbed the flute in her mouth from the now very surprised girl. As she passed out of the prison once more, she then slowly approached the young girl and dropped it in her lap. “You haven’t a leg to stand on now… Quit while your ahead…” He warned the brat. But she just huffed and blasted yet another powerful shot of lightning in every direction, as though trying to push the barrier apart. It was clear that the child was far more powerful than she let on, and the energy drain on Keiya was more than he could withstand. His arms fell, and with them, the barrier did follow. Keiya stood hunched, breathing heavily, as the girl aimed her hand in a gun shape at his chest, and let fly one final bolt that struck him hard, dropping him to his knees and forcing his arms to go limp. The girl simply puffed some air and threw her arms behind her head, leaving the three to themselves once more.
“Keiya!” Emerald cried out as she ran back to her friend. Placing her paws upon his knees, she craned her neck to see his face, which was obviously exhausted, with the smallest amount of blood falling from his lips. “Keiya are you ok?!” The cat begged an answer from him.
“The girl… Is she ok?” He asked through a strained voice.

Her flute the most precious possession in her life was taken suddenly from behind a shock running through her hand making her let go. She was shocked instantly she felt the loss of such a precious object. She stood looking at the girl as she ran.
The man, the man that was here to hurt her stopped the girl. Wait.. stopped? She was confused. The cat seemed to be watching too as the man put up a barrier. She shot lightning at the barrier and Madelyn cringed knowing that it was going to weaken his barrier.
But the cat was quick. Emmy was what he had called her and she looked in awe as she could jump through the barrier and grabbed the flute from the young girl and ran dropping it in her hands. She nodded to the cat in thanks as Madelyn didn't speak. She watched in horror as the man took a shot of lightning right to the chest and fell back as the girl ran away. The cat began to scream and run over and all he was worried about was her. Madelyn.
She ran quickly over to them forgetting her fear for now as she stood her back straight looking down at them tears leaking from her eyes she put her flute to her mouth as she began to play..
-Healer's Tear-
The song would remind the listeners of an angel her song her voice ringing out to heal body and soul. A white light that never dims and never stops shinning a beauty beyond all others.
This song would heal his wounds. Stopping for only a second to let the spell take effect before she began the next song.
-Soul Song-
This song came straight from her a light surrounding her slightly as her soul played. The pain, the fear, the love, the kindness would was over him as she transfered some of her mana to him. She began to tire slightly but gave him a little more. Her song was bright and happy the notes ringing out into the courtyard but her mind focused on him.
The notes stopped and feeling a bit tired now she sat down in the grass her eyes closed her breath heaving only slightly as she tried to catch it. She had given him quite a bit of her mana but he had done something for her that she never thought anyone would have. He saved her flute but also he got hurt doing it. She cried the tears running down her face as she looked at the grass. Her tears splashing into the grass below in her worry and in appology to the man.

The girl began to play, and Keiya could feel something strange, swirling inside of him. The wounds on his chest began to heal, and the blood from his mouth evaporated. The metallic taste was completely gone… “Her songs… Her songs are her Magic…” Emerald observed as she watched every last scratch disappear from Keiya’s body. And only moments later, did the girl play once more. This time, Keiya could feel his exhaustion slipping away. He started to feel revitalized, like his strength was returning to him, and his Mana was being revitalized. It was a remarkable thing to see this girl weaving her magical notes, and even more so to feel their healing properties.
Once she was done, Keiya looked up to see the small girl trying to catch her breath. It seemed that she had transferred a large amount of her Mana to him, because he now felt more or less fine. But for some reason, she now started to cry. He understood what was wrong. If what Emerald had said was true, then she was not used to men helping her in anyway. And for him to have been injured in the process… Well, he could only imagine how she must have seen it.
Gently, Keiya’s index finger cupped under her chin, and lifted her face to meet his own gaze, upon which he had a warm smile spread across his lips. “It’s ok… I’ve been through much worse than that… And besides. I’m fine now.” Using the thumb of the same hand that held her chin, he wiped the tears from her cheeks. “You really are a fragile little flower aren’t you?” He asked rhetorically.

Madelyn felt the hand on her chin and shied away for a moment before relaxing and letting him guide her face up. She saw the smile a kind smile. One of those that meant he wasn't going to hurt her. If anything after being so badly hurt because of her he would have hurt her then if ever.
His thumb wiped away her tears so gently she felt like crying even more. Only one other had touched her so gently and he was probably in class. She nodded silently and took his hand off her chin and she squeezed his hand gently as she gave him his hand back wiping the residue off her cheeks.
She reached over and hugged the cat. Emmy.. yes Emmy she was so sweet. She had saved her flute her most prized possession. She scratched the cat behind the ears as a thank you. She spoke nothing. She hoped they both understood the thank you. For she didn't speak and chose not to do so in her every day life. She could but didn't. Eleven years of silence going on twelve. Now at sixteen she still had never spoken a work.
She stood up slowly and nodded towards the bench deciding to trust in the man and she sat down putting her flute away very carefully she waited for him to join her. After the flute was away and the case sitting carefully by her hip she reached into a small bag always on her belt and pulled out a small tablet and a green inked pen that she carried everywhere with her and sat them on top of the flute incase he wanted to talk.

As the girl sat down, Keiya noticed that she produced a pen and pad from a bag, placing it near by, but not immediately using it. Suddenly it became clear to him. Ever since the whole situation had started, she had not spoken a word. Not shouted or even made a vocal noise as she cried. ‘The traits of a mute…’ He thought silently.
‘I can only imagine what she’s been through to make her like this…’ Emerald told him through their telepathic link. Her words didn’t slow him though, as he stood and approached the bench, sitting next to the child.
“Tell me something…” He said, actually addressing her in a manner would finally require an answer. “What is your name?” A simple question, but one that he asked gingerly. He now knew she distrusted men, and he was still not completely sure she had accepted him just yet… It was strange though. Something about this girl stirred a part of Keiya he had never really noticed before. Some may have misinterpreted such feelings as love, but Keiya new better. He had experienced such feelings once before. But such is a tale for another time… No… This was something different… But whatever it was, he knew he would not be able to understand it yet… And so he just sat there with her, awaiting her slender hands to write a reply to his question…

She sat on the bench her hands in her lap but her eyes those violet blue depths stared at the man. He had touched her gently something she rarely experienced. Outside Jonathan she had never been touched by a male that did not want to hurt her.
He began to walk over and her eyes were big but she nodded anyway. She was chosing to let him get closer. She was going to let him get close. She had been bruised before another wouldn't be so bad. She would live. Though this was a magical school she assumed it would be easy for someone to inflict harm on her. He sat down and she looked up at him silently.
Her name. Yes that was an easy answer and something that wouldn't be dangerous to give away. Her name, she didn't think it could be used against her. She carefully picked up her pad and her green pen. *Click* and the pen was ready to write as she pressed her thumb over the end. She flipped the pad open carefully she found an empty page. Her right hand moved to the page and carefully in beautiful and practiced script wrote..
Madelyn. And you?
Carefully she showed him knowing that he could speak she knew he would just answer her verbally. She nodded. Indicating that she was okay for him to know this, okay for him to answer. She didn't smile that was saved for true trust. She waited.

“Keiya… Keiya Tenpouin” He answered with a smile. This would usually have been about when he would have extended his hand in friendship, but he knew better than to try and force more physical contact on the girl. It was strange though… Spells cast through flute playing… He had once heard of an angelic woman whose songs could heal even the direst of wounds… But never such a skill as a magical instrument… It intrigued him, yet he somehow felt that proceeding to question her on such matters would not lead anywhere pleasant.
“I guess a school full of magical people would feel the safest place to go when life is harsh… Heaven knows non-magical people aren’t the most understanding bunch…” He said as he leaned back into his seat, looking straight ahead. “But then… There are jerks no matter where you go I guess…” He stood up, and Emerald jumped up onto his shoulder. “Her name is Emerald by the way.” He added, knowing that she wasn’t too fond of people other than himself calling her ‘Emmy’. The cat eyed him, reminding the warlock of his previous engagement. “Ah… Right… Will you be ok?” He asked her, wondering just how such a girl had managed to make it this long without being assaulted… She would most definitely be seen as an easy target by some of the more sinister students.

So he had come and now he was going to leave just when she was starting to get comfortable. Well, she had to admit she didn't blame him. She was different. She didn't speak and she was afraid of men. Her flute was her most precious possession. She looked up at him and packed away her notebook and her pen. After writing one last thing and folding it up. If he wanted to leave she would let him she didn't need pity. Besides she was very tired now. She stood slowly.
She pet the cat on the head gently smiling at it weakly. She looked at Keiya. She picked up his hand and squeezed it gently giving him a gentle nod. She slipped the paper in his hand and closed his fingers over it. She waved gently and walked away. She didn't like to freak people out. What would freak them out more was that she could speak but didn't. It was a personal choice for eleven years but it was even deeper than that truthfully. When she left the paper would say.
-Thank you for your kindness, Emerald and Keiya. Remember that every person has a song in their soul yours and Emerald's are both truly beatuiful melodies.
