Joseph strode into the courtyard with a distinct expression of annoyance. He hadn't gotten three steps into the grass before small fellow came bumbling after him. "Please! Please!" he called after the gunmage, "It's for a good cause!" At first he tried to ignore the man, simply striding along with his hands in his pockets. Yet the little mage wouldn't leave him alone. "Sir, please! The non-magic peoples of South America have recently gone through a disaster. Can't you spare but a dollar, a sheckel, a rummel, a pound? Anything will help." he continued rushing in front of Midnight unceremoniasly.
That was it, ignoring him wouldn't work. That left one thing. Joseph sighed, bowing his head slightly with closed eyes. When they opened for the man, they were filled with venom. "For the final time. I have no interest in them. I'm busy living my life, now if you don't stop pestering me I shall show you what the word disaster really means." he said with but a tinge of the darkness that dwelled inside. The comment itself was rather weak, but the enflection on which the gunmage had placed it had the man trembling in his boots. "Out of my sight," Midnight continued, "Now."
Not a second furthur did the little mage dwindle. In fact he scuttled back inside the academy so hurridly that he tripped on the steps in front of the door. Joseph shook his head, "If eight no's wouldn't do it..."

Mikon chittered to her, Talbot held out a few gold coins and Mikon took them to the man. Talbot heard the sounds of someone walking away from the loud panhandler- but she couldn't see him. Mikon returned with the greatful panhandler close behind- she knew he was coming for he grew louder as he came closer. "Thank you, Miss! Thank you so much! The amount you donated was enough to feed my family alone for weeks! I cannot thank you enough for your generosity! How may I help you! How may I thank you!"
Raising one hand, Talbot offered a weak smile- she could barely hear what he was saying- the words going in and out but staying mostly in. She closed her eyes and spoke softly, her speech having improved only slightly, "You a..e wel..me. Why n.t try the lib..ry for mor.. a.sis..nce."
"Excellent idea, Miss!" She heard him turn to leave, but then the sound of him pivoting could be heard, "By the by, does a beautiful blonde woman such as yourself happen to have any interest in a man from the poorer places in the world?"

He froze. That simply was not possible. He couldn't have heard that voice. Not after...Joseph found himsefl trembling as his head slowly turned to prove himself right. Talbot couldn't be here- she couldn't. Why would her her cusre bring her here? It didn't- wouldn't make sense. How he didn't want to turn his head. How he just wanted to keep rationalizing until he believed it, but that wasn't good enough for the gunmage.
Every inch of movement was near impossible. His body felt as though it was suddenly made of lead. Yet, it was not nearly as heavy as he felt once his eyes confirmed his fears. Off by the school entrance stood Talbot Linsorim. The woman he loved. The woman he tried to murder. She looked a little different, but he recognized her all the same. She even had her rodent familiars hanging about her.
What could he do? What was he supposed to do? Joseph had no idea. He simply remained frozen; staring in indecision. Should he attempt to say something...should he walk away...why was she here?

Talbot shook her head towards the voice, "Sad..y, my he..rt is my o..n." The man bowed his head, "Alas my hear is broken!" then he straightened, "but worry not! I will find another heart which would be more sympathetic towards a poor man and his begging. Good luck, Miss." "An.. to you," Talbot replied, giving a slight bow, the gesture encouraging Zula to pop her head out of the pocket. As the man walked down the stairs, no longer interested in the library, he paused by the gunmage and smirked, "Stare any harder an' she might catch fire," then quickly ran down the stairs and into the closest street.
Talbot's eyes followed him, her ears following the hurried sounds of his footsteps, she seemed as if she didn't even notice the presence of the gunmage. A large mouse, looking to weigh roughly eight pounds started down the stairs, his tail hitting the steps and sending small vibrations through them. Talbot was slow on her descent, her feet moving slowly, cautiously. Mikon fluttered and swooped about, preoccupied with the air currents- the warm and wonderful, lifting current as Ardo eaisly walked past the gunmage and continued to thwaps his tail along the ground to encourage the careful steps. Talbot sighed as her feet reached the grass, a soft smile on her face, unaware of the being so close to her, "I wi...h I kn..w wh..re..y..u we..e tak..ng me, Ardo."

Joseph couldn't move. His entire world was melted away to his beloved and her familiars. So intense was his focus, that he didn't even register the presence of the beggar from earlier. He did notice the third mouse leading her down the steps and into the grass. Her changed features were more defined as she got closer.
A thought suddenly occured to him. Was that his fualt? Had their battle left her like this? What had the madman gene forced him to do? All at once the horrid nightmares washed over his being. Joseph trembled in fear, sorrow, hatred, love- a cacophony of conflicting emotions. Yet, that mouse was leading her straight at him.
Beyond his quivering, he still could not move. What should he do? he'd caused so much pain? He'd allowed his soul to be darkened with her curse so that they could be together, and he'd ended up hurtuing her for it. What was he supposed to do? Why had he not been able to die on that cliffside? She was almost on him now. Another couple steps and she'd bump into him.
Clenching his fists and tearing eyes shut, the gunmage finally did something, he sobbed, "Stop!"

Talbot froze, she was bare feet from where the voice eminated and it had honestly sent a jolt through her at the sounds of the voice. A face flickered into her mind, one- one which a blurred like an out of focus picture. Colorless eyes fell to where the voice eminated, through her blindess she saw no more than darkness before her and wished silently otherwise. Mikon had begun chasing doves, his attention diverted and Zula's little head popped out of Talbot's pocket, a sunflower seed in her mouth and little ears perked forward.
Unsure at the first moment, Talbot offered a smile to the unfamiliar voice and answered, "My appologies. Ardo is still new at sheparding."

Joseph opened his eyes slowly. She was so close now he could see every alteration he'd surely caused in detail. With watery eyes, he glanced down at the new familiar. In the past, he would have seen it as amusing and instantly want to make friends but now...he didn't want to hurt the little guy like he did his mistress. The gunmage looked back at the girl. "T-talbot..." was all he could manage to say. He couldn't even move before, how could he possibly think what he's supposed to say now. How does one appologize for attempted murder?

She could hear sorrow in his voice and wondered if he was hurt. But- he knew her name! This stranger knew her name- had said is clear as day. Talbot tilted her head to the side, she still held her smile, "I'm sorry- do I know you?"

Joseph's eyes widened. S-she didn't remember him? How was that possible? Had that event been so strainful she blocked it all out? Furthurmore what should he say. If he said yes, he could tell her of all love they had shared. How she encompased his whole world. Yet, he still carried her curse inside of him. Sealed or not, if he saud yes, he might risk infecting her again, or worse attempting to hurt her again. His insides squirmed. He had no idea what to do. Yet, his next words, just seemed to flow from his mouth with a will of their own, "I-I'm Joseph Midnight...."

Talbot smiled, "What an interesting name you have, Mr Midnight."
Mikon fluttered to her shoulder and stared at Joseph, he chittered without words and his fur stood on end and feathers flared. Zula squeaked and dropped her seed, recognizing her favorite male human. Zula squeaked and sprang from Talbot's sleeve pocket and onto Joseph's shoulder, nuzzling under his chin and purring softly.
Talbot laughed, as if she had seen the action just as she had felt it, "I think Zula confirms I knew you. If you don't mind, Mr Joseph, would you mind telling me about yourself?"

Joseph couldn't help but sag a little. Zula always was his favorite familiar. He supposed all he could do at this point was go along anyway. "Yes...we did know each other, Talbot. I-we...I'm a gunmage. You and I actually met on my first day at Arcane Academy." he said with difficulty, but a distinct amount of nostalgia. He'd loved her so much, and still did. Yet the gunmage knew that he still had both of their curses inside of him, and he desperately wished not to hurt her again...if only he could take things back to the way they were. If only he could find a way to take the pain away from both of them. Surely his Talbot still had that pain. It was just hidden under this new amnesia...

She heard a pain in his voice, she wanted to comfort him- something inside her heart gave a jerk. She wanted to reach out and wrap her arms around him, hold him until that pained noice left his gentle voice. She wanted to hear him cry out the frustration which tainted his voice. She nodded slightly, his voice made her want to cry. Blinking blind eyes, she tilted her head to the side and asked, "What are you to me, Mr Midnight?"
