Hush Little Baby
To the outside all one could hear are the sounds of rustling sheets, a soft cry, and the eerie sound of a lullabye coming from an unknown source.

'Hush little baby don't say a word-'
Talbot stirred, opened her eye and froze- she stared at the dark form of a lanky man sitting on the edge of her bed. The moon was full and all she could see was the silloute of the famliar form.
'Pappas gonna buy you a mockingbird-'
Her eyes drooped, the man's voice a baratone sigh. Talbot pulled her covers up to her chin, she loved hearing him sing in his moments of clarity- though he had never sun to her before during one.
'And if that mockingbird don't sing-'
The moon reflected off his ivory skin and illuminated his raven hair. Even with the bars on the window taking some of the moon away- the shadows they created hid his eyes but allowed the soft smile on his face glimmer like wet pearls.
'Pappas gonna buy you a diamond ring-
And if that diamond ring turns to brass-'
He lay on the bed next to her faced the cealing, then faced her- now she could see the glimmer from the moon on his eyes. The deep gray they shared but differed- the scars over his eyes she had long memorized, gifts from the transmutation when he was seven- or at least that's what he had told her. Truth was hard to decipher with him.
'Pappa's gonna buy you a looking glass-'
He began playing with her hair, he never let her grow it out always kept it short, maybe he was trying to appologize for today's haircut. His dark gray eyes were studying her drowsy appearence- she watched him through heavy eyelids, she knew gentle moment's like this never lasted long, but she always hoped they would.
'If that lookin glass gets broke-
Pappas gonna buy you billy goat-'
Touching the rune he had tattooed behind her left ear, Talbot wrapped her arms around his chest. Hugging him for all she was worth, reguardless of his madness she still loved him. A soft chuckle broke into the song, not the dark chuckle she had come to know well but a soft loving one as he wrapped one long arm around her back and hugged her- though she clung to him and he released his hug.
If that billy goat dont pull-
Pappas gonna buy you a cart and bull-
Pappas gonna buy you a doggie named Rover-
His hand gripped her hair when she didn't let go, he pulled her away from him and rested on hand on her throat, his gray eyes relflecting the moon as his madness came back tinges of dark green filtered into them. She put her hands on the one he held on her throat, but did not pull for he was not pushing. Her heart was fluttering against her ribcage- treatening to break through.
If that dog named rover dont bark-
Pappas gonna buy you a horse and cart-
He began to press on her throat, but began stroking her hair again. His smile was broad and jovial and his hazy green-gray eyes watched as she paled and glistened as she tried to tug his hand away from her throat.
If that horse and cart fall down-
"Daddy-" she gasped softly- usually he would back off, leave her alone but instead he pressed harder, her desperate tugging couldn't move his hand. Her world flickered in and out, lights went on and off. Tears ran down her face.
Youll still be the sweetest little baby in town.
He let go just as she could barely hold onto the moonlight. Leaning over her he kissed her forehead and ran the back of his hand along her cheek. He smiled, the green- gray dancing merrily as he moved off her bed and went to the door- humming the lullabye. Talbot took in air softly, afraid any loud noise and he would return to strangle her until she found heaven's gate. Tears streamed down her face as he left, locking the door behind him and leaving her alone in the moonlight.

Talbot opened her eyes, Mikon chittered softly and pressed his nose to her chin. Sitting up she hugged the little flying mouse- glad he was small and gentle- glad she had not screamed and glad he had woken her up so carefully.
Talbot wiped her tears from her face, her bed sheets were soaked in sweat and her pillow was damp from her tears. She kicked her sheets off and turned her pillow over. She layed back down and held Mikon until she slept.
Mikon stayed away, not needing much sleep, and curled up on her hip playing guard dog for the rest of the night. Growling at anyone who passed near- be it by the door or the bed.
