Second Sight and Scrying

[The Sage]

Raenari Posted the flier after he had gotten settled in his new quarters. It was time to begin the class he was invited to teach, and he found out that they post rosters here. Sign up sheets for the students who were interested in the class. There had been some buzz about the new teacher and what his lessons would be. Speculation at best, as this was the first time Arcane Academy ever had something like this.

The flier was simple, and to the point.

The Sage

He checked periodically to see how the list was progressing. He knew it might not get filled, but that statement was put in there to give the students an incentive to sign up. "If all goes well, they all may even last till the end of the semester."

Now a hard lesson. "Maybe its something for us Aeron? lets try it out if were disapointed if its too easy we just sneak out ok?"

Aeron nod and sit down and gasps.

"Tired allready? We haven't even the start class yet. Well better be going there what room was it in? Never mind just lead me there."

Aeron showed the way to a room there it stood ""new class oppening"" and Nikias walked in and found the so called sage there.

"Hi there" Nikias said and walked to a bench and sit down with Aeron next to him.

Is he the teacher? *sights* Well lets get this over with.

Aeron gasps again and so did Nikias.

"Is this the Second Sight and Scrying?"

Raiden so far has only wandered the halls of the academy unsure of what to do. Periodically there was always a new class ready to accept students, but Raiden always seemed to miss those chances. Well...not today. Raiden walked down the hall way to the usual bulletin where important things are posted.

He scanned the board and found a fresh flier.

The Sage

Raiden nodded as he read the flier and pondered for a second if he should sign up. Raiden's current style was old, maybe broading his horizons would help him in the future. Raiden pulled a pen out of his pocket and gave it a weird look. "Hmmm..." he then looked back up at the sheet of paper. Held the pen like it was a knife and signed his name to the sheet. It was evident that Raiden still new to the modern world didn't understand how to even use a pen...

[The Sage]

Clad in a plain green robe, scrolls and books in a bag slung over his shoulder, The Sage entered the classroom. He looked up, and saw only two students. He let out a sigh. "I knew this was going to happen, but it is disappointing none the less." He placed the bag down on the table. He had heard there was at least on seer who attended the school. He had hoped that boy would show up. It appeared that neither one of these students were him, but that could be a positive thing.

One student piped up, asking if this was Second Sight and Scrying. Sage smiled, and nodded. "Yes, this is that very class. It seems there are less than the full class I had hoped for. however, this will give us the opportunity to work on things in more detail. For now, let me explain what this class is, and what it is not. First, what it is..."

"This is Second Sight and Scrying. I will be explaining and teaching how to develop, maintain, and clearly read visions and dreams. I will tech how to interpret what you see, and how to make sense of the nonsense. i will teach you the history of the art, and what you could do with it in various areas of life. We will explore all areas of learning the future before it happens."

"Now, what this class is not. It is NOT easy. There is a good deal of work that goes into reading and understanding visions. Those who posses second sight and try to maintain an "air of mystery" by speaking in riddles and adding theatrics... they give the rest of the seers a bad name. They posses the gift, but not the intellect you need to make positive use of it. You need to research, know the world today, study, read... all of these are necessary components to make use of the talent."

"Now, if you believe this is not something that is for you, then I understand, and you are free to leave. If you choose to stay, then I expect you to work and show effort. I will help guide you. You will be graded on effort and work ethic show, not how clear your visions show up. If one of you has a vision and can see, and the other does not, it wouldn't be fair to grade based on the gift. So long as you work to interpret the vision, that is what i will grade you on. This is also not a typical class. There are no mid terms, not tests per say. There IS more home work than the other classes, though."


"With all that being said," he faced both students. "who here is going to remain in this class?" His voice was gentle the whole time he spoke. Though gentle, there was also a firmness to it. It held the seriousness of the subject, and the weight of the work load. His face was soft, but serious. He waited for the students to tell him their decisions.

[Nikias]

"I am staying right here. But I need to know if a student can learn this gift. Or must he be born with it?"

It would be fun to see the future but I can try harder then everyone else and make this my specialty.

Nikias smiled and looked the teacher as he pat Aeron.

"Can you learn Aeron too?"

Cool it would be with a panther that can see into the future. Wonder if I just can make all the homework and keep up with the others in this class?

Nikias now smiled bigger and was listening what the teacher had to say.

[Raiden Matsutani]

Raiden walked in and sat down in a desk to the far right corner of the classroom. A few minutes gone by and it seemed no one else was coming. The only other person who was here was some man with some kind of feline like animal... a panther maybe? It was intriguing though, Raiden had never seen a panther before. 'Cool...' he said to himself. Just then a man in a robe with a bag full of scrolls slung over his side walked in. Reading the man's facial signs he appeared to be alittle dissapointed with something. 'Could he be the teacher of this class?' Raiden said to himself.

The man started to speak and then it became obvious he was the teacher. Raiden listened as the man went into detail about what he's teaching. 'Second sight and Scrying? .....Hmmm.... so its like fortune telling maybe? Or maybe Future sight?' Raiden said to himself. As the teacher asked who was going to remain in his class, Raiden stood up slowly and nodded slightly. "I-I'm staying..." he said in a rather small voice.

[The Sage]

He looked at the roster, and recognized the student's picture from the file. Each teacher had access to the students files, and it was a good way to know who was in your class. "Good. I am glad to know you are both willing to stick it out. As for your questions Nikias, they are good ones. I will do the best I can to explain.

It is true that we are all born with certain gifts that give us a talent others simply don't posses. But, within each of us, there is the potential for a great many things. Now, I was born with the gift of Second Sight, and have worked to master it. Just because one is born with something, doesn't mean they master it. It just means they have a head start. They still need to work to perfect it, regardless of what it is they can do. For those not born with it, they can still learn, but they may have to work harder at it. The same is true for Second Sight. Anyone can learn, but for it to be effective... for it to mean something... for it to hold any value, it takes time and hard work, even if you were born able to do it.

So, the answer to your first question is yes, anyone can learn it. As for your second question, I would have to say I am not sure. I have never tried to teach this to anyone before, let alone an animal, mystical or otherwise. I was invited here because Zoe Heart, another teacher here at the academy, believed that the school and the students would benefit from me. Truthfully, I have never held a class of my own, so this is going to be a new experience for all of us. This is one of the reasons I am not giving tests, quizzes, and the like.

The other reason is that I don't feel those would help you in any way. I would rather see you put forth the effort and do the work rather than test you and base your grades on them. This isn't something that can be easily graded. Sure, we could have a test on the history and book information, but what good would that do? You always use references when you pieces visions together. Why take that reference away for a test? Plain and simple, tests will not make sense in my class."

He reached into his back, and pulled out a few items. Three black mirrors, and three crystal balls with stands. "These are your typical scrying tools. You use these to peer into what it is you wish to see. I will be providing each of you with one of each. Whichever one works for you, that is what you may use. But, you may keep both, as they are my gifts to you." He stopped and looked up. "That is the other thing. I am not sure if they normally make you buy your equipment or tools for other classes, but I thought that to be ridiculous for her as well. You wouldn't know which items to look for that would work, so I picked them out myself."

He handed the two items to both students, and set one set out on the floor for the feline. "The other tool that will prove invaluable will be the library. The school has provided that. There are no books I can give you on the subject that would help you. It is not something you can learn from books alone. I have browsed the library, and have found a few books that cover the subject, and cover it well. but, it is mostly history and background, not instruction. That, you will get directly form me."

He took out his own crystal ball with it's stand. "Now, we are going to start with the crystal ball. Yes, we will start today. No sense in waiting for tomorrow." He sat at the desk, his ball in front of him. "Now, I said that these are your typical tools for scrying. Truth is, you can scry into almost anything. They are merely tools that help you focus. These are clear, and will be good to start with. I myself use them, as they work very well. I have used pendants and other tools as well, but when we get there, you will see the similarities. You need a clear surface to peer in to. That is why we will start with the ball

I want you to think of a question. Something you really want an answer to. The stronger you feel about the question, the easier it will be to see the answer. You may see words form, or see people. Be careful, though. When you view things inside your chosen tool, you open up a connection, especially if you see someone. They may notice your presence. If you were trying to reach someone, you could even communicate with them, with enough practice that is. But, we can worry about that at another time. For now, like I said, focus on something you want answered... a question that you fell strongly about, and desire an answer to."

He looked up at the class. "Tell me what you see, if anything."

[Nikias]

Nikias started to think of a question. and looked at the crystal ball.

A good question. Its kind of hard when you have lots of questions in mind. Maybe...

He then gazed in to the crystal ball. And when he was focusing as much that he could he could see a boy standing next to a demon.

Is that boy me? I asked about what I am not about any demon.

Then Nikias stod up and said "I think this crystal ball is broken Sage. Its not showing the truth."

Nikias had become a little frustrated thanks to the things he saw in the crystal ball. "It was lying to me."

Then he sit down and pushed it over to Aerion that was starting to look in it as well.

(Im not typing if he sees something becouse my char don't know.)

[Raiden Matsutani]

Raiden nodded and listened to teacher, as he described Second sight and scrying. Raiden peiced all that he heard together and tilted his head to the side. 'Generally this is like fortune telling... I never thought stuff like this was real...' he said to himself.

Raiden recieved the crystal ball and a black mirror. Raiden held the crystal ball in one hand, and tapped it likely with his claw. "Hmm..." he said as he gave it an awkward look.

Raiden sat down and placed the crystal ball on it stand. Raiden closed his eyes and exhaled. His eyes opened again focusing on the crystal ball. Getting past the distraction of seeing his own red glowing eyes on the glass orb, Raiden concentrated the best he could. In his mind his question was:

How long...have I been sealed? How long was I asleep?

Slowly an image of Edo Japan came into focus... People were wearing clothes matching the clothes Raiden had on. The surroundings looked familiar, almost making him homesick... Everything about this image made Raiden feel alittle relaxed... Then the image changed to a temple... the temple his mother was at...the temple he was sealed away in apparently as the crystal ball reshowed Raiden being sealed away by his mother.

After that scene was over an image of a Japanese calendar came into focus... from that year many days went by turning into many years...into many decades... Finally the calendar stopped changing to the time and date of today. It was now apparent to Raiden how long he was out...

Raiden looked up from the crystal ball astonished. Even though it was alittle fuzzy, Raiden was able to make out exactly what happened. Raiden looked over at his teacher and nodded implicating he saw something. "I...saw...well... its kind of hard to explain..." Raiden said at a loss for words.

[The Sage]

The sage shook his head. "I'm afraid that the ball can't be 'broken.' As I said, you sometimes need to do research to put the pieces together. Sometimes you see everything, other times only fragments. Sometimes you can take what you see at face value, other times it needs to be looked into. It is the job of the seer to determine what it is that they see. In other words, there is a tool that only you can provide, and one you use for your everyday life. Perspective."

The other boy spoke then, and seemed to be pleased, but unable to find words to it. "That is fine. If your question was a personal one, then it might be hard to go into detail about it, or find the words to express it. But, it is best that you try. And that brings us to your homework for the day. Since this class is flexible, I will personalize the assignments.

Nikias... I want you to continue to focus on your question, trying to see something clearer. I could tell what you saw disturbed and frustrated you. But remember, it might not be what it seems at first. You may have to research, or ask a related question. The pictures may be in pieces. Write down what you see, and I will look at it when you hand it in.

Raiden... you seemed to have gotten a very clear picture. I want you to write a full report about it. There is no minimum length. Just do the best you can. For both of your assignments, include the question you asked at the top of the paper. I will expect these in tomorrow.

If either one of you needs my help on any part of this assignment, then let me know. I will guide you as best as I can. Well students... class dismissed! See you both tomorrow!" He smiled as they left, hiding his own fear. What he saw in his own vision was disturbing, and he wasn't sure if there was much that could be done. The vision showed a dark cloud forming nearby. Raenari had seen it before. It symbolized a great power, dark in nature. He didn't have time to clear the cloud away and tech the students at the same time. Part of the reason he dismissed them.

This is not good. I need some time to clear the cloud and find out what is coming. From the size of it, it does not bode well. I can't take care of it alone. I am going to need help. He packed his things and pulled his hood up. I have a good deal of work ahead of me. He left the room silent, and immersed in thought.

[Nikias]

Nikias again gazed into the crystalball that he took back from Aeron that became very sad about it. Nikias took up a note paper and a pen and started to taking notes of what he saw.

I can see a girl with a boy. They are looking at the sky exactly what I can't see. They seem to be talking with each other. Now the girl falls asleep and the boy is looking at something that seems to be some kind of humanoid. Now he runs away from them. He was taken and was brought away... Now I can see my dad now. This is when i meet him and he look so friendly too me. I can now see myself entering the academy.... Now I can see myself again but I am looking older than I am now. I can se myself again but I am no longer human as it seems I am... something else.

Nikias stopped looking in the crystalball and gave his teacher the notes.

"Here is the notes Sage. I can't found out who I am with these it seems so I will ask something else next time."

Nikias was looking proud becouse of all those visions he had. and he was sitting next to Aeron again and let Aeron look at it again.

[Raiden Matsutani]

With that Raiden left class for today.

Later on Raiden was staring at a blank sheet of paper and a pencil in his hand. He was blankly staring at the pencil unsure of what to do, but then remembered proper uses for writing utensils. Raiden then thought back on the images he saw, and what the teacher named Sage had told him.

"Hmmm..." he said to himself as he started writing. Raiden did his very best to interpet what it meant.

How long...have I been sealed? How long was I asleep?
In the in image...I saw myself in a deep sleep.
While I was in that sleep, time seemed to have went on.
Many days have past, but strangely it seems
I was not aging, eventhough everything else was.
Final time seemed to slow down, and I awoke to
find everything different. Everything so bizarre and
new.


Raiden entered the classroom the next day with his paper in one had and his crystal ball in the other. Raiden handed the sheet of paper to Raenari and nodded slightly.

[The Sage]

The Sage entered his classroom and sat t his desk, still nervous over his own visions. What he had seen last night disturbed him greatly. However, it was not the time to burden anyone with what he saw. He needed to be sure of all the pieces before he presented them to anyone. The students had entered the classroom, and handed him their reports. He sat in his desk, the room silent as he reviewed what he was reading. He decided to address Nikias first.

"The fact that you saw all of this is amazing. Though unclear and in fragments, you still saw clear images. These are both your past, present and future, though your future seems unclear. If you focus and keep at it, I am sure it will come to you. Your focus will be that future image, and what you saw you will become. If you find out, and you want to change it, best you be prepared." He smiled. "Very well done." He turned to Raiden.

"Yours was unusual. It seems you got a glimpse of what had happened while you were not aware of your surroundings. For you to be sealed and then given a glance at the world as it changed, that is precious information. Tonight, delve deeper, focus, and see if you can unveil more. Try to re enter the vision and look around."

"I am proud of both of you. For your first times, you did phenomenal. You must have been able to awaken your gifts within somehow. So far, you are both well on your way to passing this class with top scores." These two were amazing. To be able to get visions like that so quickly, he was very much impressed. But, he couldn't dwell on that. It was time for today's lesson.

"Well, I will have you continue to work with your crystal balls at home. Today will be more about discussion of other ways visions can come to you, and determining what is vision, and what is not. Can either of you tell me any other way a vision might make itself known?"

[Raiden Matsutani]

Raiden looked when Reanari adressed his dream. Raiden now began to understand alittle more what the dream meant. Just like what Raenari said, Raiden vision must have given him a glimpse of the period of time Raiden was asleep. The one thing Raiden was curious about was just how long was he asleep? Raiden decided tonight, just like Raenari suggested, he would go deeper to see what he could uncover.

Raiden broke out of his thoughts so he could pay attention to Raenari as he started today's lesson.

"Can either of you tell me any other way a vision might make itself known?"

Raiden pondered on it, but quickly came up with a logical answer. "Vision can occur through dreams...umm...right?" he said to Raenari.

[The Sage]

OOC: Being as this is a classroom and conversations will be taking place, if the post is short, that is fine. Not every post can be a novel, and they all shouldn't be. Once details have been made clear, it is alright for the posts to just let the story flow and move.

He turned to Raiden. "Ah, yes. Dreams. That is one way. However, as a seer, you must determine what is an actual dream, as per normal, and what is a dream-vision. That is what is tricky. Dreams as we sleep sometimes reveal things to us, but it is up to us to determine if it was some subconscious desire, or if it is an actual puzzle piece. it is not always easy to do.

When you "dream" during the day, while away, that is more like having a vision. They are more clear, usually. The only way to find out for sure with either one is to do research. not only with books, but with the tools you have before. You. You can use them to determine dream from clue, and go on from there."

"Raiden, very good. Any other ways you might come across a vision?"
